And it was not, “one person left for work at 4 am, worked two jobs, returned home after 8pm entirely exhausted.”
No, it was “one person went to work at 8 or 9, came home at 5 or 6; ate food, paid bills, watched tv, celebrated birthdays with parties, and so on.”
And a couple-few times a year, they all went on a modest vacation, like a weekend visit to relatives in a nearby state and visited an amusement park while they were there. Also, in summer they went to the state fair - all 5 of them - maybe a couple of times. The went out to movies a couple times a month, but maybe not all 5 at once, because everyone wanted to see different movies.”
That wasn’t the exotic “livin’ the dream” lifestyle. That was the boring-humdrum what-everyone-does lifestyle.
(It was never “everyone.” But it wasn’t the rare 1%, either.) It was what showed up on all the tv sitcoms and drama shows because it was so common, you could use it as a backdrop without explaining anything.
Sometimes I get real tired remembering that I had to get a whole ass doctorate to enjoy the same quality of life that my grandpa the garbage collector had, with a stay at home spouse and three kids.
Let’s be honest—his quality of life was better.
how it started:
context: the insult was “nicia cineade cacator”, “nicia the inverted shitter”.
the memes that followed:

Or even when Trump himself learns from his mistakes….
If the idiots storming the Capitol even had like two more collective brain cells, they could have done untold damage to our democracy. The entire line of succession to the presidency was in that building. They walked in there armed with lethal weapons. And the president told them to do it.
This is why the reaction to this must be swift and decisive.
It’s also why anyone calling for “healing” and “unity” in this moment has wildly missed the point, and should be ignored:
If the government can’t impeach and remove a president for attacking the government, then what the fuck is the point of having an impeachment process? Republicans have shown us who they are, and who they are is synonymous with fascism. That is a threat to democracy that cannot be ignored. If something isn’t done about it right now, it will happen again and it will be worse. We have to learn from this and do better and shut these people out of all public spaces. Or they will take advantage of our leniency, just like they did on January 6th.
