Hey guys, I was taking a break for tumblr because of life but I’m back now and will try to post more!
One piece of great news, I’ve found an artist to work with so we’ll begin working on a new game! Look out for more updates on thAt :)
So I’ve always known I’m really indecisive, and it isn’t helping me at all right now either. I couldn’t handle (more like my computer couldn’t handle) how slow the Cocos2d-x projects were compiling and building, so I began playing around with Unity after that. However, I’m beginning to doubt if this is the tool I want to use. I have to admit I was being a bit over ambitious, and trying to make cross platform games from the get-go. I’ve realized that there is no need to rush, and I know for sure now that I want to mainly develop iOS apps. Which has now got me to start using swift… So this past month has been a bit chaotic, and I’m still not sure where I’ll plant my roots for my first game. The goal is to release something that’s playable by the end of this year. I think I’ll go with swift (LOL). Hopefully I don’t change my mind again xD
Been having a lot of trouble getting Cocos2d-x set up and getting used to it and its super slow building times but I’m starting to get the hang of it now. Should begin seeing some nice game prototypes up soon.
Oh, and I’m drawing again… I’m so bad at it though haha anyone with tips or anyone who wants to try drawing for my games let me know :)
Alright so it’s taken me like 2 days to try to set up a Cocos2d program properly, and was about to give up but now that I’ve got it up and functioning, I’m AMAZED by how simple and amazing the library seems so far. Can’t wait to make progress using this!
Check out the beginnings of my shitty first game!! (pun intended)
It’s basically the same rules as a typical snake game, but you’re a person who eats fruit and then poops poop that follows around. If you run into the poop or run into a wall, you die.
I can finally call myself a game dev wannabe now!! Gonna start working on some bigger projects as I get more used to creating simpler projects like these.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, there’s a 1v1 battle mode too in which you try to make the opponent run into your poop. In this mode, your own poop doesn’t kill you, and hitting a wall will make you jump out of the other end of the screen.
I think silliness is an important aspect of games so forgive my immaturity.
I’m going to add one more mode to the game which I’m most excited about, and then start polishing up the graphics (cuz sheesh that’s some real crap right there).
Thanks for reading this post I really appreciate it! Stay tuned for more random updates on my journey to (hopefully) someday become an indie!
I’m gonna document my progress over 100 days so I can keep track of my progress. I’m starting day 1 after my first game got into shape, but trust me it took about 2 or 3 months to get the basics down so I could even get here.
So without further ado, I just finished my first really simple graphics based game using SDL2 on C++!
It’s nothing special but it’s definitely a starting point! Now that I’ve picked up the basics, cooler games here I come!
Quickly threw together this 16x16 icon today in school. I gotta say I think it’s pretty neat considering the amount of time it took :) I’ll be using this until I think of a new one or someone gives me something really cool.
Now I need a nice banned to get this page looking nice. I’ll try to get one in the next week.
I will try to get my icon and other things set as soon as possible.
It’s a huge step that I even started blogging here so I’ll take it one step at a time.
