hey don’t label traditional mythologies as fuckin cryptids. yokai aren’t cryptids, w/ndigo are not cryptids, pukwudgie aren’t cryptids.
TRADITIONAL MYTHOLOGIES ARE NOT CRYPTIDS.
cryptids are creatures with a disputed existence OUTSIDE OF MYTHOLOGY. like fresno nightcrawlers, mothman, bigfoot, flatwoods monster, jersey devil. NOT mythology, and NOT indigenous stories.

South Korean beauty standards take shit to the next. Fucking. Level. Women are evaluated in totality based on every minor physical detail and whether it matches the ideal to the point where their decision to go under the knife for procedures the likes of blepharoplasty (surgery on their eyelids) is a main determinant of whether they get a job. For them, shit like this is an expectation. Fuck that garbage, burn it up ladies.
In Korea you are literally REQUIRED to have a headshot with your application. Your physical appearance is a major vetting point in the interview. Applicants have literally been told to bleach their skin for jobs. Seoul is the plastic surgery capital of the world.
This is HUGE for them. Support them. Even if you love makeup, their beauty culture is TOXIC. Support this movement
Misogyny is not a cultural difference. This is WRONG
I can’t imagine how many women must have mental health issues related to the impossible beauty standards
A website attempting to outline the boundaries of Indigenous ancestral territories in North America, and the world over, could become a valuable educational resource, says its self-described “settler” web developer.
Vancouver-based web freelancer Victor Temprano says his interactive mapping website Native-Land.ca is his “dearest” project. He’s logged thousands of hours developing it, and says he’s working to turn it into an Indigenous-led non-for-profit organization and educational tool.
“The site wasn’t built so Indigenous people know their territories better — they know them plenty well,” said Temprano, who described himself as a settler in Canada.
“A lot of settlers are not really aware of the situation with the land, and a lot of people are vaguely interested in it, but there aren’t many resources to explore it. I’m really happy to see that it’s becoming useful to Indigenous Peoples themselves.”

I’m reading this thing about how farmers in Japan considered thunderstorms to be good luck because they’d make more mushrooms grow so some Japanese scientists created this lil electrical machine that they wheeled through the forest administering shocks to the ground to simulate lightning strikes and the areas that they shocked yielded twice as many mushrooms as unshocked plots of land ⚡️🍄
the fact that we reached a point where we can simulate fake storms to make little buddies grow twice as much is like magic but slightly to the left and just down right delightful

They’re also shooting for 100% renewable plastic sources by 2030! All of the soft plant/leaf elements in sets right now and going forward are made out of bioplastic made from sugarcane, and they’re working on getting the regular hard plastic bricks out of that, too.
They’ve done it, actually! The full bricks are in the prototype stage now, and are expected to be 100% biodegradable without the need for a commercial compost facility. It’s very cool. Right now they’re testing the durability and playability of the bricks and seeing what needs to be revised/reworked on their final model.

August 15 2019 - An ICE prison guard rams a blockade of Jewish antifascist protesters in Central Falls, Rhode Island, after which his colleagues come over to pepper spray them. An eyewitness account:
Tonight I planned to be arrested protesting at the Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, RI. I wore comfortable layers. I made sure to not drink too much water. I left my phone and keys with a volunteer in a baggie with my name on it. The only things in my pockets were $40 and a photo ID. Four hours later, I watched the ambulances gather up the seriously injured. The action was organized by Never Again is Now. We marched from Jenks Park, singing, chanting, praying. We gathered outside of the facility, about 40 of us who had planned to get arrested, and large crowd of other protesters. We delivered a letter with demands, and when, as expected, the demands were not met, we lined up outside the two entrances to the Wyatt, one to block pedestrian access and the other to block vans. However, because they knew we were coming, they had rescheduled all prisoner transfers so there were no vans coming in or out.
So we decided to relocate to the adjacent parking lot, to block guards from leaving when their shift was over. There was a large entrance and a smaller entrance off to the side. At first I was with the big group at the front entrance. Then a car started heading towards the side entrance, so some of us broke off to block that exit. The person in that car was a woman, and she left her engine on the whole time during what followed. At the main entrance, at about 9:30pm, a guard in a black pickup truck roared down the street, and rammed directly into the line of protestors on that side. Two people were injured. Then, WITHIN SECONDS, a horde of guards came streaming out of the prison and pepper-sprayed the protesters, including the injured. Let me be clear: there is no way that they could have gotten there that fast unless there was some communication ahead of time from the guy in the truck about his plan.
Many people were seriously injured by the amount and manner in which the pepper spray was used. Prison guards absolutely do not have the authority to use their pepper-spray, a weapon that is part of their job, against civilians outside a prison. And none of the protesters was on prison grounds; we were across the street in a parking lot, which was adjacent to a soccer and baseball field. Earlier in the evening, there had been kids playing there.
On our side, we were sitting across the entrance to the parking lot, facing outwards. The woman was still behind us with her lights and engine on. We heard screams but could not see the other group. At that moment, the woman in the car behind us revved her engine several times, to intimidate us into moving. We stood up and faced her. We did not move, and we wanted her to look us in the eye if she was going to run us over. She did not move. This was a premeditated attack. There were both local and state cops in the area - they were there all night keeping an eye on things, but they would do loops, they were not always right in front. The guard watched and waited for a moment when none of the 3 cars that were patrolling were within line of sight to carry out his attack. But he did coordinate with his fellow guards inside so that they were ready in an instant to pour out of the facility and across the street with their pepper spray.
When the local cops came back, it was pretty clear that they were PISSED at the guards - I do want to say that in fairness. I do not believe that the local cops were part of the conspiracy. Honestly, this is going to bring such a stream of crap to Central Falls in the coming weeks, and this makes their life very difficult. National attention. But at the same time, they did not immediately arrest the driver. All they would say is that there would be an investigation.
When it became clear how seriously injured some folks were, the rest of the protest was cancelled, including our group on the far side of the parking lot. So I came home with the $40 still in my pocket.I joined this action because I’ve reached a point where I look at everything I’ve done so far and there’s no risk, no personal cost. If I look at this moment in history, and all I can say is that I posted some stuff and waved some signs, but was unwilling to take any risk or do anything that might cost me, I simply cannot live with that. ICE is perpetrating crimes against humanity. I will not be a person who looked the other way, who hoped it would go away.
EDIT [the next morning when I can speak more clearly]: For clarity, I don’t think the Central Falls police were involved in the planning of the attack, but they were very involved in covering it up by not arresting the guard immediately and in the way they responded to witnesses. Earlier in the night, they blatantly lied to us about who the woman was in the car behind us in an effort to get us to leave. All cops are complicit.
Also, by now I’m sure everyone reading this has seen the video and the other news coverage and they made it more clear: he was outside the parking lot, ramming inwards. It’s not like he was inside and frustrated with us blocking him.
Please, if you talk about this story, make sure to ask the question: if they treated us with this level of violence, a group of civilian protesters with cops not that far away and everyone having a cellphone camera, what do you think they are doing to those detained in the facility who have no way to get the word out about their treatment?
One of the items that Never Again is Now was protesting about this facility was the lack of transparency and proof that detainees rights are being met. After last night, it’s not enough for the Wyatt to just cancel the ICE contract. The whole facility needs to be shut down. Tell your RI senators and reps: No for-profit prisons in RI!
it’s so insidious that priyanka chopra can straight up advocate for bombing kashmir and pakistan and label it “patriotism” with her bitchy clap back at a distressed activist trying to hold her accountable and being silenced, and meanwhile shitty uk tabloids be like
the disconnect is unreal. the fundamental lack of understanding of the situation in south asia right now and the way (this brand of) western media is so desperate to maintain the status quo of keeping celebrity culture up on its pedastal that encouraging nuclear warfare against innocent and oppressed civilians, like, doesn’t matter at all
her specific jump from bollywood to hollywood has given her a unique voice and position that a lot of westerners simply do not understand. in india, she’s from the elite. she’s born and bred into the highest class of bollywood royalty, her family history is tied to the military which constantly seeks to go to war against pakistan as well as oppressing the muslim community and other religious minirities in india. her ties to the disgustingly rich ambanis who have made their billions off the backs of poor indians and have terrible business practices, and the prime minister modi who is a staunch hindu nationalist who believes in and has been consistently making moves towards expelling all religious minorities from the country - not exactly woke kween behaviour
relocating to america means all these white people writing think pieces about how hashtag woke it is that this brown woman, from an oppressed minority, is the lead in her own tv show. she’s constantly asked about representation and taking up space in the industry as a brown woman. but that’s all meaningless coming from her - she’s never lived as an oppressed minority in america or anywhere, but it’s allowed her to co opt a #movement of #wokeness that the west loves. it means that her rampant blatant and dangerous islamophobia and imperialism is allowed to go unchecked because there’s no understanding at all of where she comes from and what she stands for in India.
it’s fully our responsibility as desi diaspora to speak out on this to educate fellow westerners, and to uplift the voices of desi activists in the homeland speaking out about what’s happening right now. i know it seems trivial in the face of what’s actually happening in kashmir, but i think perception is everything and in the west if this one singularly famous south asian person trivialises the matter without being called out, it really does shape how people here see the issue
How to use a sigil wheel.
I rarely use this method myself, but I know people are always looking for tutorials on different methods of sigil making and not finding any.
I’ve had a few different people asking for more graph based sigil making techniques, and this is a fairly well known one that fits that category.
I hope this tutorial is coherent and answers questions instead of making things more confusing. If you have any questions, however, never be afraid to ask.
This is SUPER CLOSE to how I make sigils but my wheel looks a lot different and I have a circle method for starting words, ending them and double letters.
Some retail complaints from twitter this morning. I don’t think anyone can fully comprehend how stupid humans are until they work a retail or hospitality job.
I’d like to add on the people who ask a question, get an answer they don’t like and ask the same question in a different way to get the response they want.
I get stuff like this often enough at work, but that last one? There is one customer we have that does that so frequently and for so long (personal record with me is goddamn FORTY MINUTES of trying to get the answer she wanted) that we call her Circle Lady when she isn’t present.
Then there are the ones who do this, fail, and try it again with the same employees the next day.
Me: “For the drink, it’s [x amount] :)”
Customer: “I saw a sign that I get a free drink?”
Me: “For signing up for our rewards program, yes :)”
Customer: “Oh… I don’t have one of those”
Me: “Well if you sign up, you can get the free drink! :)”
Customer: “Eh I don’t want to sign up”
Me: “…” “…” “:)”
Customer: “I hate getting all those emails”
Me: “Oh, well you can opt out of emails, I can show you how :)”
Customer: “No thanks, I don’t want an account”
Me: “Okay… well the drink will be [x amount] :)”
Customer: “I thought it was free?”
Me: “It’s free if you sign up for our rewards program :)”
Customer: “I don’t want to sign up”
Me: “Then the drink isn’t free :)”
Customer: “You can’t just give me the drink?”
Me: “No, I can’t unfortunately :)”
Customer: “Why not? It’s only [x amount]”
Me: “If that’s not a lot of money to you, why don’t you just pay for it? :)”
Customer: “This is shit customer service”
Customer: “This is highway robbery, squeezing every dime out of people, you should be ashamed of yourself—”
Me: “I don’t control the prices, I’m just a cashier :)“
Customer: “—making a fucking fuss over a damn drink and it’s not even a large—”
Me: “That’s not my decision, I’m just a cashier :)”
Customer: “—and you bet I won’t be coming back here again”
Me: “How unfortunate :)”
I can feel the :) deep in my soul
I have never felt the :) so viscerally as in this post.
I havent even worked in retail and I feel this
Literally had this happen today
Customer: what is the sale on this?
Me: oh, that’s not in sale
Customer: it’s not on sale?
Me: nope, its priced as marked
Customer: so how much is it?
Me: it’s the price on the sticker
Customer: (looks at sticker) it says ten dollars
Me: yep, that’s how much it costs
Customer: so its ten dollars?
Me: yep, ten dollars
Customer: and there’s no sale on it?
The sound of dozens of horses approaching your cosy little home, had dread settling heavily in your gut, your feet quickly taking you towards the back of your house, abandoning the dishes you had been cleaning.
In all honesty, you had been expecting this day to come, and as such had prepared for it to a degree.
The moment you first decided to help the fair folk, you knew you were putting a target on your back, and had accepted it despite knowing the consequences. For years you’d been helping them where you could, helping them hide away with you when they needed to hide, helping heal them when humans harmed them with something they couldn’t fix themselves.
You’d done countless things for them over the years, and never had you regretted it. You still didn’t.
Still, you knew that one day it would all come down on your head, and hard. You had seen the signs for the last couple months, and recognised that your time was swiftly coming to a close. With this knowledge hanging over you, you’d begun to make preparations, to ensure that nothing about your downfall could lead the townsfolk to them, or give them an advantage over the fair folk.
You had chosen not to tell the fair folk of what was coming, not wanting them to put themselves at risk in some attempt to protect or save you from your untimely end, and even with your final moments growing close, you couldn’t find it in you to regret it, though part of you wished you’d had the chance to say goodbye properly.
Quickly hiding the box you held, inside the secret hiding place the fair folk had once shown you many moons ago, you slipped back into the house, bracing yourself before exiting out the front door to meet your future executioners. At the very least, your final gift to them would help them set up a new safe house, even if you wouldn’t be there to help them personally anymore.
Your soul was calm as you peered up at the furious and armed townsfolk before you, knowing that your dear friends would live on for quite some time to come, even though you would not.
good job everyone
we’re doing great guys keep it up
Society: Capitalism and the free market is great because it lets customers CHOOSE who’s the best company and then that company makes all the money while lesser companies have to improve or die.
Millenials: *boycott companies that benefit off exploitation of people and natural resources*
Society: WAIT NO NOT LIKE THAT
Conservatives: Let the free market decide!
Got a cosplay idea but the character has lots of arm (or leg) tattoos? Don’t feel like painting on yourself with body paints or hunting down that horrendously expensive temporary tattoo paper? Here’s a quick tutorial for making tattoo sleeves using nylons and sharpie markers!
- Supplies are cheap! You may even have many or all the supplies you need right at home.
- Quick and not very messy! No paint is involved, and sharpie marker dries instantly.
- Easy! Great artistic skill not required.
- They move with your skin! People have legit thought these were real tattoos. From a distance, yes, but I had guys at cons with actual ink on their arms come over to compliment on my full (fake) sleeves.
- You get to eat pringles! More on that later.
- They are delicate. Nylons get holes in them super easy and forearms run into stuff, lean against things, and generally make it hard for the sleeves to survive. But if you only need them for a weekend, that’s ok.
- I haven’t experimented too much, but unfortunately this technique probably doesn’t work for wearers with darker skin tones. Sharpie ink is transparent, so any color it rests on just multiplies and the tattoo won’t show up very well. You’ll want to go the fabric paint or body paint route to get the best bold, bright tats.
- Can’t do white sections, because sharpie ink is transparent and doesn’t come in white. I leave them blank and they read OK, but the white areas will always be pink, tan, brown, etc. unless you dab in a little fabric paint, which will not be covered in this tutorial.
- Sharpie is supposed to be permanent marker, but on skin…it’s not. The ink will most likely wear off onto adjacent clothes. Not that big of a deal for me, as I tend to wear my tats with white shirts that can be bleached, but other shirts may not survive as well.
OK, let’s go! Here are your supplies:
You’ll need a pair of nylons, scissors, tape, a set of sharpies, your designs printed out on 8.5 x 11 paper, some bracelets, and a can of Pringles. You can use any design you want, of course, but Here is the link to these fine Newt Kaiju tattoo designs.
If your nylons have an undies part, cut the legs off and wear the undies on your head for the rest of the tutorial, if desired. Put the legs on your arm like so, and cut the toes off so you can slip your hand through. You can cut some of the top of the sleeve off as well, but don’t cut too much because you can’t put it back on if your sleeves are too short.
Here are my creepy sleeves. Now for the pringles.
Tape your design template to the Pringles can. It doesn’t reach all the way around but eh. The Pringles can gives you a nice stable surface to draw on that is roughly the shape and size of an arm. It’s a little short, so just roll up the rest of the nylon above the workspace and adjust both template and nylon down when you get to working on that part of the sleeve.
Color with the markers! I recommend doing the colored areas first and then doing the black outlines on top of it, to avoid the black ink contaminating the ink pads of the lighter markers. Remember how that always happens to the yellow ones? Eww. Nylons are thin and slide around a bit, so it’s best to use short strokes and dotting to get the ink on.
Take the template off the Pringles tube, flip the paper to the blank side and put it back on again. The paper collects the extra ink, so it’s hard to see any missed spots. Now you can see any bits you may have missed. Fill them in for completion. Also, the paper doesn’t manage to wrap all the way around the Pringles can, so now is the time to free-hand a bit of the design where the template doesn’t reach. For Newt tattoos, that’s the back of the arm.
When you’re all done coloring, put them on!
There’s a rough end to the tattoo right at the wrist, of course. Disguise where the sleeve ends and your skin begins with some pretty bracelets:
There we are, much better!
Now…you’re done! Have some Pringles!
SLAMS THE REBLOG BUTTON
from a tattooist perspective: use the navy sharpie not the black or blue for your lines, they will look like healed black ink.
This is amazing. Particularly “if your nylons have an undies part, cut the legs off and wear the undies on your head for the rest of the tutorial, if desired.”
Daniele Watts, an African-American actress who has starred in Hollywood films such as Django Unchained, was “handcuffed and detained” by Los Angeles police officers after being mistaken for a prostitute for kissing her white husband in public.

“She said when she reminded the officer of his oath to “protect and serve,” he replied, ‘My job’s not to serve people like you.’ ”
‘My job’s not to serve people like you.’
‘My job’s not to serve people like you.’
‘My job’s not to serve people like you.’
Has everybody got that? Does anyone still think any of this bullshit ‘has nothing to do with race’?
y’all deserve to hear the good news too, and yes i fact checked these.

- There is a cleanup campaign being planned for mt. everest
- Puerto rico wants to use all renewable energy by 2050 and is setting official goals for that
- Some schools have special water bottle fill-up stations that encourage you to use refill and reuse plastic bottles rather than throwing them out after one use, these are becoming more common.
- 9 endangered species are thought to make a comeback this year
- 20 countries in africa are planning to make a “green wall” of trees and plants that will span the width of africa to stop desertification
- recently, a lot of volunteers and organizations are planting a ton of trees.
- Awareness about the environment and climate change is growing super fast right now among people and countries, which will only help us
- Most pollution is caused by like 100 companies, but a few of those (like pepsi) are trying to cut down on that.
if this stuff keeps happening things will get even better, and the only thing stopping us really are those big companies who don’t want to pay the money to switch to more eco-friendly energy sources. i know the media tends to cause fear and stress about this stuff for a lot of people, but there really is hope.
easy things we can do:
- Plant gardens in your yard for bees if you can
- Participate in community volunteer things that plant trees and gardens
- Theres this search engine called ecosia that plants a tree for every 45 searches you make, it has almost 2 mil users.
- Pick up trash if you see it when you’re at the beach or in nature
- If you have a fair amount of money, consider donating some to trustworthy environmental organizations
- Start using a reusable water bottle (like those ones at target) rather than relying on single use plastic ones.
- Cut the plastic rings on plastic milk bottles. You know, the little spiky plastic ring near the cap. Birds get those things stuck around their neck and die, so cut them so that they can’t get stuck on a neck.
- If you can afford it, get some of those reusable grocery bags and sue those. most grocery stores have them, and it saves a lot of waste.
The future will be great and green

This helped with the fact I’m always one sad fact and a news article away from sobbing over the Earth’s condition.
