Why is everyone sleeping on luke skywalker as a character. like.
He’s. He’s. He’s one of the few MAIN protagonists of a WELL KNOWN series i can think of that doesn’t “get the girl” at the end. He literally ends up alone but happy anyways. He’s one of the few characters who, save for maybe one or two seconds of grief, is always 100% a good person. He literally is the ‘there’s good in (evil person)’ character trope EXCEPT HE’s RIGHT. He is. 100%. Right. AND LISTEN IT’S NOT BECAUSE OF OBI-WAN OR YODA
Obi-Wan and Yoda both very minutely change as characters from the original to the prequel movies and it’s because of Anakin and Luke’s personalities, respectively, that cause their plans to succeed or fail. This is a major plot point i haven’t seen people talk about. Their main concepts of how to be a jedi DO NOT CHANGE, or if they do they do so minutely. I mean this mostly about the attachments stuff. And listen. There’s no,, Anakin is not a bad person at his core, but he’s, pessimistic at times, where at other times he is blindly optimistic. Luke is neither of these things, he’s optimisticly realistic. He hopes for the good in situations, and will create it if he has to. Luke is a character, who, despite being told to forgo attachment, uses his attachments to his advantage. He finds strength in the people around him. Anakin on the other hand was a very guarded and solitary sort of character, told at a young age (perhaps not young enough, perhaps too young) who he was supposed to be. Anakin looked for fufillment in Padmé and in the Jedi and seemed to only temporarily find it in either, thus why he was so frantic to save her. Anakin was in love with the idea of being in love.
Luke was, (in the original movies not the new era FUCK what the new era did to him) content, at his core, if not a little confused by the world around him. But he wasn’t always searching desperately for more like Anakin always was, which is why he’s such an easy character to watch. (Mark Hamill also was a big part in this.)
