More people have depression now than they used to. Is that because:
A: We know more about it now than we used to and are actually able to diagnose people. People are also more honest about things. My dad clearly had depression but since it was drinky/shouty/angry depression (Happy St Patty’s), it just came off as general anger and was never diagnosed.
B: The movement toward more office jobs and living-room based sedentary entertainment made us generally less active which also contributes to depression. Remember how many people found they were half-cured of anxiety once Pokemon Go came out?
C: Changes in diet. The latest few generations have never known a world without artificial sweeteners. We know they’re harder to metabolize contributing to obesity and a supression of mutant powers #LoganReference, but could this also factor in to mental issues?
Probably a mix of all three, though A and B seem most likely.
