Good morning everyone! I’m sorry for the period of silence on this account; just about every bit of my energy has been spent working on the game to bring it to everyone as soon as possible. But I’m back, and I will be posting a couple of updates and answering some asks throughout the next couple of days, so please look forward to that!
Today’s post/sneak peek has already been posted on Kickstarter, but I know not everyone checks there, so I want to make sure people can see it here too! As you might have guessed from the link above and the video’s title, today’s post is about Lyrissa’s theme and ending song, and it’s done! Even better, the song is sung by Lyrissa’s voice actor, Melody Muze. I am personally am quite happy with how it turned out, but I’m always excited to hear your guy’s opinions!

There are 4+ different characters available for romance. (●'◡'●)
Each of these characters have their own different personality, story and role in the coming conflict. Will you choose a faction and stay with your lover, or will you set out on your own and choose to stay by yourself? The choice is yours!
Adrian is 22 years old and the youngest of the main characters. Despite his youth, he carries himself with maturity and an air of responsibility.
He is educated as a military doctor who specializes in surgery. However, the average citizen sees him as a general practitioner much to his vexation. Adrian does not enjoy treating snot and syphilis, but he cannot turn away those in need despite his lack of experience and confidence in his abilities.
Adrian often finds himself the object of his patients and nurses dreams, which he frankly does not like. However he is quite satisfied with the head physician. As long as the patients are well off and the hospital’s needs are met, Adrian is content.
A citizen of the Edelheid Empire who is in the Kingdom through an agreement between the nation. That agreement allows him to practice his profession in the capitol without restrictions.
Adrian comes from a family of wealthy doctors and physicians. It is from this that he gained his dedicated work ethic. An early riser and a late sleeper, Adrian will spend long days in the hospital making sure everything is done right. Adrian leads a relatively healthy lifestyle and is in excellent physical shape but he cannot quit smoking.
He has partial heterochromia - blotches of yellow spots on the iris, a lot of moles on the body and face.
So I’ve gotten a fair amount done in the last two weeks. Let us jump in.
Imported all the sprites for Ari’s route (meaning I transferred their image files into the game.)
Made some corrections/additions to various sprites as well
Coded all sprite expressions in Ari’s route
Did a basic play test
Started putting together a template for Ari’s flowchart
Started coding sprites for Caleb
Coded Morgan’s expressions through chapter two
Coded everyone’s entry/exits through chapter two
So the first thing I worked on was importing the sprite files to the game. Obviously they have to be saved in their individual components then have their expressions and outfits set up in the sprite file.
That took a little longer than expected because I ended up making a fair amount of corrections and tweaks to various sprites. Usually enough time has passed between making the sprite and importing that when I get around to importing I can see mistakes I didn’t see before or I realise I’m just not quite satisfied with it.
So I ended up correcting quite a few sprites as I imported them, which made importing them take a while.
Ari’s route also has a lot of side characters that show up, too. So there was a lot of work to do in that area. But most of the side characters show up in other routes which means those routes now either have all or most of their sprites imported as well.
I then coded all the sprites and expressions into Ari’s route in the right places (something that takes several days. While not difficult, it is definitely a very tedious time sink. It’s a lot of coding then checking, then coding, then checking.)
I did one full play test of Ari’s route but, of course, more testing is needed. I didn’t go through every single available scenario.
Finally, I put together a template of Ari’s flowchart in diagrams.net. I’ll use this to construct the official flowchart for the route that will appear in the game.
I started coding sprite expressions for Caleb’s route next and have gotten Morgan’s expressions up to chapter two. I decided this time around I’m going to code all of Morgan’s expressions as well as everyone else’s entries/exits in scenes then go back and do another sweep coding in actual expression changes.
Sprite expressions usually take a week to a week and a half per route. The routes are long and there are a lot of expression changes (usually every 4-6 lines per character). Ari has over 6000 expression changes through the route. I think about 2500 of them are Morgan’s. So, as you can imagine, it’s just time consuming to go through the whole route and decide where people are changing expressions or outfits or whatever.
That is kind of it. Whenever you get into one of these huge time sink activities, it feels like the updates are kind of “I spent the whole time working on this ONE thing. LoL
And there’s not a lot to say about it.

I imagine I’ll be working on Caleb’s sprite expressions for the entire upcoming week. I’ll probably also try to set up Ari’s official flowchart.
As I mentioned, sprites should take a week to a week and a half per route (barring computer drama that makes it take two months or whatever) so I don’t think I’ll finish with Caleb by the end of the week but I’ll probably get most of the way done with his route this week.
By my next update here I should be working on the next route which will be either Caissa or Magnus. I’m not sure which.

So happy for you that your new computer is working out! \o/ and just wanted to say, I sprite choreography sounds like a lot of hard work but it's so worth it, the way you rearrange when a new sprite comes in/goes out of 'shot' on screen adds so much *realism*! Because, if someone joins a conversation, your view *would* shift to center on both the previous and new people in on the convo, so when you move everyone onscreen like that it's really worth it from a player perspective- well done you! x
Sprite choreography is one of those things that’s more tedious and time consuming than hard.
Some aspects of making a VN are difficult while others are just a massive time sink. Placing sprites is one of those things that is less about difficulty than it is about tedium.
The only time it can get difficult is if, say, I’m juggling four or five (or more) sprites in a scene. Sprites all respond to screen positions differently (so placing Magnus at “midleft” and Caleb at “midleft” can result in them being positioned slightly different due to how the sprites stand within their 800x2000 pixel square). That can be the difference between everyone looking well spaced or someone standing on top of another sprite.
That means there is sometimes some trial and error in crowded scenes to figure out who works best in what position.
But I do think the payoff is just a better overall look as characters more in and out. OwO

Anyway, I think Morgan’s way of smashing walls is pretty fun at times. Not just in terms of relationships.
Because her experience as an Esper wildly differs from the norm, she tends to assume her limits are different than what others assume a queen rank’s limits are. She assumes she can do things other Espers are either taught or assume they can’t do. So she ends up experimenting….and getting results that surprise people. Purely because she doesn’t go into thing assuming “Espers can’t do that” the way other Espers to (because of being taught about “limitations” that may or may not be accurate.)
So I’ll be honest - I’ve lost track of when the last time I updated here on tumblr. The date on my master template file for tumblr devlogs hasn’t been changed since June 06. LoL
That’s also the date on the last update I could find on the blog. But that one was different from the one saved in my master file which is more recent. So did I just never post it? I don’t even know.
Life has been hectic as I’ve been continuing the Computer Repair Saga.
So this update is going assume it really has been a full month since my last update. If there is any repeat information here I apologise. My computer situation is fixed so without that distracting me I will definitely get back track with my tumblr updates!
Sprites. A lot of them.
Outline work for Reuben and Yuu
Work on TUB (The Ultimate Bob - aka the template for the ‘extras’ level character sprites)
So the last update I found mentioned having done the sprites for Birdie and Casey.
Since then I’ve done…basically all the rest of the sprites:
Carrie, Eric, Veli, Rowan, Vireo, Finch, Lin, Gina, Marc, Trent, Odette, Celeste and maybe some others. There are a total of 50 sprites for the base game (including 9-10 very, very minor characters. AKA - TUB).
I’ve basically done them all at this point.
For a long time because of the blue screen issue, I was hesitant to code so I was just working on sprites non-stop. So there have been several weeks of me just working on sprite after sprite after sprite.
I was waiting to hear from repair technicians on the computer situation and have them schedule the repair. Then the laptop essentially became un-usable (it still boots up but it bluescreens frequently) so I had to switch to my back-up machine - which is a machine I cannot do art on.
I spent the week working on Reuben’s full synopsis and outline, then on Yuu’s full synopsis. And I got those both done. Reuben’s route is essentially at a point where I can start writing it at any time. Yuu still needs his full outline. And Quill needs both his synopsis and outline still.
I also started actually writing Reuben’s first chapter. But it’s like…one scene in. So I didn’t do TOO much. LoL
I was working on writing while waiting for the repair techs to come pick up my computer when…
My state went on lockdown. With all travel (except for 'essential’ services) halted, the repair tech cancelled on me on the grounds that none of their technicians are allowed to travel and neither am I. HAHAHAHA. =|
Anyway, laptop issue is solved now. Not the way I wanted but it is what it is.
I finished up TUB, which was the last sprite I needed to do. TUB is essentially a template that will let me build “extras” - minion type characters or characters with very, very few lines - all from a single file. It has one base but multiple hairstyles and types of clothes I can mix, match, and recolour. This keeps me from having to do 10 additional unique sprites but lets me have the “extras” still all look slightly different from each other. Since all the extras are named Bob…
This file is…The Ultimate Bob. LoL
Anyway, I know my “ramble” this week is a little short but, really…with art, a lot of times there’s not much to say. LoL.
With sprite art more or less complete except a little tidying up, the base project is now at 85% done.
Sneak Peeks and Previews:
I don’t think I’ve shown off any of these sprites on the blog yet. There are others but these are the ones I have screen caps for.
Veli, Rowan, Odette, Trent, Celeste
Veli, Rowan, and Celeste are characters associated with the Court and Crimson. Odette is one of the King’s Guard in Endgame (she’s in casual clothes in this screen cap). And Trent is…TRENT.
Vireo, Lin, and Finch
These are all characters from Lance’s route. Friends of Edan. Finch is one of the first androids the characters get to meet. And he’s adorable. OWO
I’m finishing up a few little sprite things for now. (Adding in a few missing expressions, etc.)
And I’ll be starting to prep the sprite files for the game and get them set up so I can go back to coding the expressions. So very soon, it’ll be back to coding. Then sending out beta versions to testers.
I’ll get back on my devlog schedule going forward so I apologise if this was delayed and updates have been silent for a while! It’s been a weird time lately.
I really love your art style! It has such character and is instantly recognizable and is so uniquely yours. It's probably one of my top 3 art styles in any VN. When did you start drawing? Do you have any tips for someone just starting out?

I think I’m just one of those people that never stopped drawing. All kids draw, but many people stop drawing for years and years and pick it up later. I have always drawn quite a lot. Some of my funniest/earliest stories about drawing come from Kindergarten. Like the time I got in trouble for colouring the snow in a winter picture blue. (“Oh, sweetie. Snow isn’t *blue* - do you want to re-do this?” ….YOU KNOW WHAT? No. Snow reflects whatever colour light is around so it absolutely can be blue. How dare you, Ms Teacher! >=o )
Or the time the principle had me draw a duck for her because I went through a Duck Phase where I drew a ton of ducks and apparently drew them very well. I’m not sure who told the principle about my ducks or why. But I remember she was observing the class one day and specifically called me over to draw a duck for her.
I never specifically took art classes through school (something I regret) because I had other interests at the time as well. But eventually it all narrowed down to writing and art.
I think advice I’d give to someone who is just picking up drawing again would be:
1. Do not compare yourself to others who have more experience. It’s great to have artists you look up to, but comparing yourself to them too much can really destroy your motivation and confidence. Remember that even artists you look up to…have artists THEY look up to. We all compare ourselves to others and think “MAN…I wish I could draw like them.” But don’t let that kind of thing hold you back.
2. There are tons of tutorials, workshops, and articles available online now. So don’t hesitate to look those up and learn from them.
3. Don’t expect too much progress too fast. Drawing isn’t magical or mystical and it doesn’t require innate talent. But it is a lot of hardwork to improve. That means if you’re just starting out, you may find that progress is slow. You may feel dissatisfied with your initial attempts. That’s all pretty natural, to be honest. You need to give yourself the time to improve without making yourself feel like you’re not good enough in a fast enough period of time. It really isn’t a race.
4. Good tools and supplies can certainly open up more avenues for improvement but having the best tools available will not automatically make you a great artist. There’s a reason tradiational art supplies come in grades of quality (scholastic, student, professional). Don’t feel like you have to invest in all the highest tier stuff right away. Whether you start out traditional and digital, your supplies and equipment will grow with you. That’s normal.
And I think that’s all. I know it’s pretty general advice but I hope it helps you some! Good luck with your art endeavours!
I want to understand Ari a bit better? <3 Does he *dislike* an emotional Morgan? Like, when she was worried about him getting hurt to protect her from the glass, etc- does he like someone who feels things deeply or not? He seems like such a sweet darling tho- does he just panic and not know how to comfort her? Can't wait to play his route someday, and the others and get to know them all better, such vibrant characters! <3 Also praying your computer woes are solved ASAP and perfectly for you Esh!
Ari doesn’t dislike emotional people - he is actually drawn to emotionally expressive people. And his best friend, Caleb, is a very emotional guy. Ari just feels uncomfortable with certain types of emotions because he either disn’t sure how to respond to them or they make him anxious - especially if people expect him to recriprocate in some way.
He doesn’t mind comforting distressed people, though. Because there’s a certain logic you can apply to those kinds of situations. He’s not always good at it since he doesn’t have to do it often - but that doesn’t bother him.
His friends are very used to how he is and really don’t challenge him to get outside his comfort zone much (this is really true for them all. They’re very used to each other because they’ve known each other for YEARS so they just accept how the others are without confronting anything. LoL) Morgan sort of smashes the walls of that comfort zone and pulls him out of it without even realising that’s what she’s doing. LoL
But Ari will always prefer taking a logical approach to something rather than an emotional one, which is why he often responds better to that. If there is a trait Ari dislikes, it’s impulsivity.
Not thinking before you act really freaks him out. It can lead to so much bad stuff. LoL
The main reason he sort of brushes her off regarding getting cut by the glass is that he’s unaccustomed to people worrying about him (they all have dangerous jobs and a tiny cut on his face is nothing to worry about. In addition, Ari and the other agents at Endgame have a special nano-system expansion that speeds up their healing. So again - he knew the cut was really a non issue. LoL You actually see him respond to other injuries he receives throughout the game in much the same way.
He is a very sweet darling though. He is very emotionally reserved but can be quite thoughtful at times as well.
Re: computer issues - this computer situation is making me want to scream into the void but my new one is supposed to be delivered today. =w=; So there’s that at least. LoL
Hopefully it all turns out for the best and I fall in love at first sight and the two of us (me and the new computer) have a long and happy relationship going forward. LoL

Unfortunately, due to the sheer size of Changeling (which is nearly 700,000 words) and limited ability to verify quality for most languages, we’re not looking to get this game translated right now.
(We really can’t afford it due to how massive the game is!)
There are also some logistical issues to updating the game (which was produced on a much older version of the game engine than is currently available) that would require us to actually make a lot of code updates/clean up if we ever wanted to release another version of the game or additional content. Until we have the time to address these issues, we won’t be making updates to Changeling.
Changeling helped me realize that I need to start talking to my brother again. Nora wanting to fix things with Spencer makes me want to fix things with my brother. I haven't spoken to him in years. I will be texting him tonight. Thank you...
I’m not estranged from either my brothers but I’ve always had a somewhat tense relationship with one of them. We just sort of clash somehow. He and I have never been as bad as Nora and Spencer but some of their fights are semi-based off me and my brother.
He’s also a brother that a lot of bad things have happened to through the years so I have always found myself worrying about him - even back when we were really little. It’s odd to be in a position of wanting to strangle someone a lot of the time but also being really worried about their well-being. LoL
I think it’s good to reach out and try to at least be on speaking terms. Sometimes it’s also okay to acknowledge you clash.
I hope your attempt to mend things with your brother went well!
If a drunk stranger were to come up to the ros and try to fight them, what would they do?
It depends on the situation for some of them.
Ari: Would just leave.
Caissa: Probably wouldn’t have to do much since it’s more likely one of his bodyguards would step in. But he would at least ensure the drunk stranger wasn’t harmed.
Caleb: Most likely he’d just walk away but if someone started throwing punches, he’d contain them and maybe knock them out. LoL
Jack: Same as Caleb, really.
Lance: He’d try to talk them down while dodging blows if he had to.
Magnus: Probably let himself get punched repeatedly to be honest. =w=;;;
Quill: Elbow them in the face and leave.
Reuben: Try to diffuse the situation but subdue them and take them into custody if he had to. He probably wouldn’t want them charged with anything but would ensure they were removed from the streets until they sobered up enough not to be a problem.
Yuu: Probably knock them out and drag them to the nearest hospital or something.
