For the directions cut ask meme!
maybe something about „Beyond Form“?
And with a star ⭐️, because i generally just really loved that one, so anything you might want to talk about would be wonderful :)
Beyond Form was for MTH2020, for a looorge pod organized by @rise-up-ting-ting-like-glitter. We wanted to pick a prompt everyone liked and @summerpipedream, I believe, came up with the one that ended up winning: someone brings werewolf!Bucky to veterinarian!Tony’s practice in the middle of the night cause they thought they hit a dog.
The beginning where Clint shows up with Bucky and Tony operates on him was fun and easy to write. I worked as a vet nurse through college, so I was just drawing on real life experience for that. The lying in the cage with the wolf and an ice pack is based on a real story, but it wasn’t a wolf, it was an aggressive weimaraner who had just been neutered (rather later in life) and had a very sore, very swollen ball sack. He let me sit with him with an ice pack on his junk and we bonded. He was never aggressive to me again. I didn’t fall asleep, however, but he did let out a groan when I first touched the ice to his missing balls that I can remember with perfect clarity. I like to think every now and then he thought back and remembered me fondly.
I had a bit of trouble working out what the exciting plot for this would be, because I wanted there to be conflict or fear or drama of some kind, but not so much that Bucky would have to leave or it’d be too complicated to resolve. Having Phil slide in helped with that, but I still spent a lot of time mulling over how it was going to play out and I changed my mind a few times before the final write.
I really struggled with the final action scene, though the tractor roomba did end up being a favourite part. My absolute fav part of that fic is Alpine, though, unsurprisingly. She sees Bucky and is just like “that loser needs me.”
Though my fav exchange from the whole fic, and probably one of my favourite parts of all my fics is:
“I have a gun,” Tony said stupidly. He did have a gun, but it was a shotgun and he kept it in a gun safe out in the barn. All he had to defend himself with at the moment was a bagel.
The man’s eyes scraped over him, perhaps looking for the gun, perhaps judging if he could take Tony - no question, even with only one arm - perhaps evaluating the lethality of a bagel to the head. “What?” he asked. His voice was rough and raspy, like he hadn’t used it in months.
“What?” Tony echoed, because frankly that question was far too big to be faced, and it was the same one he had.
The man worked his jaw for a moment, eyes cutting away to scan the room. He smacked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and sniffed sharply. “Where?” he managed and that was one Tony felt on more solid ground with.
“You’re in my house. See I’m a vet and last night someone brought in a dog they thought they hit with their car. Only it wasn’t a dog, it was a wolf. But then when I woke up this morning, it wasn’t a wolf either. It was you.”
A friend of mine named most of the animals on Tony’s farm haha. The farm itself is based on the farm of an old client of mine. I used to walk her dog through the alfalfa fields. Though instead of a motley crew of retired farm folk she had a big barn of very loud cows, lol.
I really enjoy werewolf stuff, especially when it can be h/c, and that fic was an h/c fest, so I really enjoyed myself writing it and I hoped the pod enjoyed it too!
Thank you so much!
