Today I binge-watched Shadow and Bone. Spoilers about show and books below.
I was very iffy at watching this series because I got spoiled the ending of the books and it sounded like a total disaster to me. Enemies to lovers is my absolute favourite trope so I went in trying, against all odds and expectations, with all my heart, to like Mal, to like him a lot, so that I would not succumb to the tall-dark-handsome-brooding-villain curse.
I, of course, failed.
You cannot deny the truth that is your villain-simping heart.
And Mal is unfortunately the typical friendzoned childhood friend type. Except this time he is not going to be friendzoned.
However, I have to admit that while the Darkling is charming, I’m not bought by Darklina. I ship hero/villains together when there is a balance between the two, an equality, and each one gives as much as they take. The Darkling here put a collar around Alina, manipulated her and used her. This is not for me, he could’ve seduced her to his side, trusted her more, met her halfway… idk there could’ve been lots of ways to make this something more appetising for my tastes, but to each their own of course. Ship and let ship and so on.
So since I really don’t care about the ship war here, the thing that reeeeeeally upsets me is that in the end she is going to lose her powers to play the housewife taking care of a bunch of kids. I feel despair just at the thought of it.
Oh, the only ship I really like so far is Nina and Matthias… and we all know how that is going to end.
So… I kinda wish for the show to end and that it won’t be renewed.
But I like Inej, so I also kinda wish it will be.
