Akane is (in style) so similar to Kunikida omg, I love them.
And Aoi reminds me of Tomoyo Daidouji.
idk if uve seen it but Kekkai Sensen ( Blood Blockade Battlefront) is really good ! to me it gives out bungou stray dogs and durarara vibes but thats probs just me idk-
Yeaah, I saw it, (and I think the same hahahah) but thank you a lot ❤
Aight but you are responsible for any damages following this.
I’mma choose… Kunikidazai, because I wasn’t into it when I first entered this fandom but now? Now? Give me more, please!
Just. I want so much for them. I want Dazai pining for Kunikida but at the same time being so scared, because Kunikida is so good and bright and unwavering. He leads with a steady hand and protects without questioning why he should. He just… does it. He throws himself even into danger to do it and he keeps the entire organization in line. Dazai feels he’s almost too bright sometimes, feels like he’s staring directly into the sun after years of being trapped in a dark cave (an analogy that I’m now obsessed with courtesy of @dazaipositive ) and he has to avert his gaze and go back into hiding.
Then there’s Dazai, all scars and mistakes and past crimes wrapped in bandages and a mind that doesn’t seem to work right, who can’t help but weigh the merits of helping somebody before he does it, who keeps falling into cruel and unusual methods to get what he wants. Even if it’s for the better of the ADA, what he does, he knows that if Kunikida saw it, he’d probably never approve. Actions should be taken for the betterment of the whole, right? Not just the ADA. That’s probably what he’d say, Dazai thinks. They’re two polar opposites and unlike Ying and Yang, they don’t attract. Kunikida is constantly trying, it seems, to push him away, and Dazai lets him because what else is there to be done?
Sometimes I wonder why Kunikida was the only one for a seemingly long time to not know that Dazai used to be in the mafia. I can imagine it’s because Dazai thinks he’s simply too good to accept that, to accept that Dazai has changed. Sure, Kunikida has advocated and has praised others for changing in the past, but Dazai thinks he would be the exception. It was only once he didn’t think that – and his guard was just a bit down because he was distracted, that he let the information slip.
Dazai thinks that if he gets too close, he’ll somehow taint Kunikida, so he doesn’t. But there’s a pull from Kunikida that keeps him coming, he can’t distance himself from his partner entirely, so he self sabotages all his interactions with Kunikida by being the annoying prankster, the thorn in his side, the lazy, good-for-nothing slob that Kunikida regrets having as his partner. He hopes that Kunikida will do the dirty work of cutting him off without second thought. It’ll hurt like hell, being rejected by him, but at least he’ll have nobody to blame but himself, right? He knew he would never be good enough for Kunikida, anyway.
But THEN, think about the opposite. Kunikida falling for Dazai despite all his ideals and how many of them Dazai breaks (it’s all of them – he’s not even a woman, fuck). It starts slow, quiet, things he can ignore. Statements of fact that don’t mean anything. Dazai’s smile is cute, bright on the occasions it reaches his eyes. But his hair is messy – it’d look better if he just cut it once in a while. He has a well-chiseled face with large eyes that sparkle on occasion – it doesn’t mean anything if he just acknowledges that Dazai is a handsome man, right?
But the quiet observations of his looks don’t go away and they grow and blossom into something more. Soon it becomes noticing the smaller details, like his pink – no, fuck, don’t go there – but his lips are never chapped. He has bad luck with the ladies because he’s a suicidal bastard, not because he’s a bad kisser or anything like that. How could he be?
Then it becomes not about his looks at all. When Dazai stands in front of the board going through this mission’s plan, so meticulously thought out – no room for failure and Plan B’s for the Plan B’s for the Plan C’s. Everything is foolproof and there is no way they can possibly lose this case, lose this fight. He smiles at the end of his presentation and asks if everyone understands what’s to be done, and the exterior of the carefree idiot is gone, replaced instead by someone with a knowledge far beyond his age swimming around in that head of his. Kunikida wants to ask where it came from but he secretly always knew, didn’t he? He knew it from the moment he met Dazai, even with his dark eyes and the smile that didn’t reach them and the smirk that held a million secrets. A too-clean record for someone with a look like that and a too convenient careless demeanor for someone so capable of thinking on his feet.
Dazai is a mystery wrapped in an enigma… wrapped in stark white bandages that never seem to dirty no matter how many times he’s hit. Part of Kunikida… almost wants to dislike him, wants to distrust him, but no matter how many times he tries, Dazai proves over and over and over again that not only can he be trusted, but that he’s entirely incapable of being disliked. If not drawn in by his charms, everything else about him is intriguing. He’s a puzzle Kunikida wants to solve but instead of putting the pieces together himself, Dazai holds them all and gives them to him one by one, just enough to keep him hooked.
Kunikida would follow him to the ends of the earth, if he asked. He’d say no, but he’d do it anyway.
Dazai has a promise to keep to a dead man, but maybe his new partner can give him the reasons he needs to keep on the path even when all hope seems lost.
I want to do this, it’s about the tagged fandoms.
Send me characters, heheheheh, I will make them suffer.
It can be about BSD or others animes like: hunter x hunter, fairy tail (don’t judge me), magi, boku no hero, detective Conan, Hyouka, voltron, etc.
Just try, and if I knew the anime I will post the answer 😂😂
On a rainy day
At the back of the university, whilst the sky cried and rain fell on all windows, stood two people : a teenager and a boy. Although surrounded by books, they barely paid attentions to the objects. The eyebrows of the older were furrowed in frustration.
“Wait Atsushi, are you telling me you spent the evening with three people you didn’t even know? How could you do something so damn stupid?”
“I really didn’t want to. I just didn’t manage to say no.”
“For fuck’s sake, take care of yourself a bit, would you? I don’t want to find you dead one day just because you followed a suspicious person.”
“I won’t, don’t worry.”
Atsushi looked at the blond man in front of him. Kunikida Doppo, the man who had accepted to resolve his education’s shortage. Right now, the teenager was busy obtaining his degree in order to become a teacher.
If not for the two months he had spent as his student, he wouldn’t have thought him to be such an amazing mentor.
It was a frosty day.
Atsushi had now been living in Yokohama for one week. Buying furnitures had been both the best and worst experience of his life. So much possibilities he barely knew what to choose. He didn’t have the money to buy anything fancy but the feeling of control this situation had offered to him was overwhelming.
However, no matter how happy he was, he needed to get back to work if he wanted to keep his independence. Using Internet was still a mystery to him except for sending mails. He had no other choice but to go to the closest library. One of his neighbour, a nice old lady had affirmed him, he could find one popular with students not too far away.
Until now, the orphanage’s library had been enough to learn a decent amount of informations. Enough for his first short stories to be coherent and interesting (he hoped) but he couldn’t rest on it.
He walked into the building, afraid that at any moment someone might order him to go out. No one would, he knew it but integrating it would take a while. The feeling of being an imposter refused to vanish.
I can’t live my whole life thinking everything I do is wrong. I have as much rights as any other person to be alive.
As he was about to go to the history section, a shout startled him. A few meters away stood a blond colossus. A furious blond colossus.
“We are in a library ! A place of knowledge and study, disturbing everyone as you are doing is an insult to all those who want to succeed. So shut the fuck up !”
I should probably stay as far away as possible from this guy , Atsushi thought.
His interlocutors looked at him with an expression akin to someone seeing an exploding volcano. Absolute terror.
Despite his victims’ remorses, the man kept screaming. It reminded him painfully of the headmaster.
I’m definitely not going near him.
A librarian went to see him and ordered him in angry whispers to be quiet. Red blossomed on the man’s ears as he stuttered with embarrassment.
It doesn’t concern me. I need to find books.
He continued his journey and arrived to shelves with old front covers. It seemed to be about north american folklore. How interesting.
Or at least it could be if he was able to reach them. The awful consequences of being under a meter and fifty centimeters. As he struggled on his tiptoes to catch what he wanted, a hand invaded his vision and caught it before handling it to him.
“Thank you very much.”
“Aren’t you a bit young to be here? Do not cause trouble.”
“I-I don’t intend to.”
In front of him stood the man from before, his serious eyes entirely focused on Atsushi. How lucky he was !
“It is a library dedicated to students, you should probably go somewhere else if you’re just looking for something to read.”
“I’m not ! I’m doing researches.”
“Is that so? Alright then.” He didn’t seem to be convinced.
Careful to keep looking at the man in case he started yelling again, he sat to the closest desk and started reading.
“Shouldn’t you be at school at this hour?” The man asked with the same suspicion again.
“I’m not skipping, I just can’t go.”
“I see. Sorry for asking.” He said and also took a chair. Almost immediately he took a notebook out of one his jacket and started writing in it.
His focus went back to the book. Some of the words didn’t make sense. He wasn’t familiar enough with the american culture to know them however he could almost guess their meaning. One however…
His brows furrowed in confusion. What could be the significance of this one?
“What’s wrong, kid?”
“Just speak, I’m not going to scold you for asking a question and it’d be annoying to have someone in trouble next to me.”
“I’m just not sure of what it means.”
“Aurora Borealis, it’s a latin word so you don’t pronounce the s as if was a phonetical z.”
“It’s a natural phenomenon when lights from different colours - especially green - appear on the sky. It only happens in the northern and southern pole and if I remember correctly it happens because photons from the sun interract with the particular atmosphere.”
As the man spoke, Atsushi kept writing what he said. The first thing he had bought after arriving in the city had been a notebook to remember informations and ideas for his stories.
It must have been the right thing to do since his interlocutor looked at him with appreciation.
“Did you understand everything?”
“I think so.”
At the orphanage, most of the books weren’t exactly suited for children. They were donations from people who no longer needed them, hence why school books had found their way to the place. Atsushi had once read one about physics (far too complicated for him to understand everything) but enough to learn about basic particles.
“Do you have any other questions?”
Despite his grumpy behaviour, he still had the air of someone avid to help.
First impressions really are misleading. He isn’t at all how I thought he’d be.
“Do you know books I should read?”
“Well it depends of what you’re interested in.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’ll read anything.”
“Really? Well then there are quite a few books on mathematics which are really interesting.”
“Won’t they be a bit complicated ? No one ever taught anything about it.”
“You’ve never what ? Got maths lessons?”
The man suddenly rose up and left.
What had happened?
Did I do something wrong? Maybe he doesn’t like being around people who never got any real education.
He looked around. No trace, he had just vanished.
Or at least, that’s what he thought.
A deep bang surprised him. He had come back with a pile of books.
“I think it should be enough.”
“I’m not sure I understand.”
“I can’t let a kid be ignorant of this kind of subject so if you want I can - I can tutor you. Only if you’re motivated, though, I won’t accept any half-assed work.”
“That’s so nice of you ! Thank you so much ! But I don’t want to impose…”
“I’m not nice !” He blushed ? “I want to be a teacher so it’s normal for me to practise by mentoring kids so don’t worry. My name is Kunikida Doppo by the way.”
“Then, nice to meet you, Kunikida-sensei. I’m Nakajima Atsushi.”
When he heard the honorific “sensei”, Kunikida could only emit a sound which could be compared to a dying whale’s.
“I don’t have the right diploma so it is not right for you to call me “sensei”.”
“Would “senpai” be better?”
“I guess it would be.”
The blush hadn’t subsided which was endearing in a way. Kunikida-senpai could really only be described as an amazing person.
“So anyway, I thought about some questions to evaluate your level and if you’re not able to answer I swear I’ll go punch those who raised you.”
Although quite a violent one.
From here, their relationship had quickly evolved. They’d meet at least thrice a week and worked together. Being the youngest of his class since he was only sixteen, Kunikida tended to be quite isolated from the rest. Tutoring Atsushi was his only consequent social interaction. Exactly like Atsushi who, too focused on his next short stories, barely went outside.
A day, when Atsushi - too lost in his work and worried about the next full moon - had forgotten to eat one too many meal, he had grabbed Atsushi by the scruff of his neck - like a furiously protective cat with his cub - and had brought him to his home. This had also marked the day Atsushi had met Kunikida’s grandmother.
“One would think you’d be able to take care of yourself.”
“I’m really sorry !”
“Don’t apologize, just make sure it never happens again.” He had huffed.
The old woman had softly giggled before serving him again. Her udons were to die for.
“Listen, next time you meet one of them, just call me. I’ll make sure they don’t hurt you.”
“Ango-san and Oda-san were really nice so I wouldn’t worry too much.”
“And what about the last one? Dazai was it?”
“I don’t know how to describe him? He was a bit weird but I’m sure he’s not that bad.”
“Chuuuuu - yaaaaa ~ Guess what I’ve got !”
“If you’ve stolen one of my hat again, I swear I’ll destroy your annoying face.”
“Such a violent chibi… Why would I want one of your ugly hat anyway apart from burning them? No, no, I have something much more interesting.”
“I don’t want to know.”
Chuuya kept sending his fists into the punching ball, imagining with pleasure it was his partner’s face instead of leather.
The other kept looking at him with shiny and expectant eyes. The bastard could have almost been convincing.
Minutes went away and he quickly grew tired of the other’s presence.
“What the fuck do you want?”
Like a magician very proud of himself, Dazai produced a rectangular object (a book, his mind quickly supplied) from his sleeve.
“Guess who just got a signed copy from your favourite author?”
“Don’t lie, bastard, Tsukishiro-sensei doesn’t participate to book signings.”
“You instantly knew who I was talking about. Chuuya has a celebrity crush.” Dazai singsonged. “How embarrassing.”
“Shut the fuck up, I don’t, I just respect his job.”
Paying attention to such a dumbass would only result in a lowering of his IQ, Chuuya decided, no need to give him more attention. He went back to his training.
It had been a year since he had joined the Port mafia and he was pleased to see his strength and endurance had significantly increased. Probably a consequence of a good diet and a direct access to necessities such as medicines. In opposition to the mackerel, his physical strength could rival anyone and he was decided to keep it that way.
Don’t adopt a pattern while fighting, if you can think about it so can your enemy. You must be as impredictible as possible. Be -
A soft whistling interrupted his thoughts.
“Why the hell are you still here, fucktard?”
“Chuuya hasn’t looked at what I wanted to show him.”
“And I won’t.”
He tried to focus once again.
Dazai wouldn’t stay stil for so long if he didn’t have a real way to annoy him. Just like a worm in a fruit, the thought that - maybe - his meeting with Tsukishiro could be real invaded his mind.
He bit his lip. No way in hell would he give him the satisfaction of -
“Did you really get a signed copy?”
Dazai nodded. “There are even small annotations in it, it’s really cute.”
“Did you steal it?”
“Wow, even for a slug you’re really slow. I told you I met him yesterday.”
“No way in hell am I believing you.”
“If you don’t, ask to Ango and Odasaku they were with me.”
Now that was interesting. Oda Sakunosuke often followed Dazai’s shenanigans without even noticing but Prof Specs didn’t. The guy was far too stuck up. Chuuya even doubted he knew what a joke was.
“Give me Sakaguchi’s number.”
“As you wish ~”
He quickly dialed it.
“Sakaguchi Ango, how can I help you?” A very tired voice answered.
Did the guy even sleep?
“Hey, prof Specs, I just wanted to know something.”
“Nakahara-kun, let me guess, Dazai-kun told you about our meeting with Tsukishiro-san.”
“He did, that’s bullshit, right?”
“Not at all. I was as surprised as you are - for such a young kid to be a writer - but yes, we did meet him.”
Behind him, he could hear Dazai snort as he hanged up.
That’s all that was needed for him to explode.
“Why the hell did it have to be you !? I hope you didn’t bother - nevermind, it‘s you, of course you bothered him.”
“How mean. I acted like a perfect gentleman, look, he only wrote nice things : “It’s been a pleasure to meet you, Dazai-san. I hope we’ll meet again soon.”’
“How mean, if you keep acting that way I won’t introduce you to each other.”
“Do you think I care ?” He yelled.
“O I think you do. That’s why I’m going to milk this situation for all it’s worth.” The asshole smiled.
“Try it if you dare, I’ll fucking punch you in the face.”
“As if you can. Chibi is far too predictable.”
“Let’s see if you still think after I sent you in a wall.”
“I’m so sca-”
Before Dazai could give his usual snarky answer, Chuuya jumped toward him, ready to turn his threats into actions.
In a quick step to the side, Dazai managed to avoid him.
It only resulted in a broken wall.
“You’re such a violent little dwarf.”
“Shut the fuck up !”
“Well if you’re asking for-”
“WHAT DO YOU BOTH THINK YOU’RE DOING?”
A beautiful almost ethereal woman entered the training in furious steps. Her face as red with anger as her kimono.
“Ane-san, he started it !”
“What ? Already having memory troubles at your age. It’s obviously your fault, slug.”
“I’m not the one who bro-”
“Stop acting like children right now ! I want you to clean this mess and this place better be in a perfect place when I come back. Am I being clear?”
“I’m an executive, you can’t give me orders anymore, Ane-san.”
“I have a meeting to attend to, Ane-san.”
“I said : Am I clear?” She repeated, the usual glow which usually announced Golden Demon’s apparition all around her.
Dazai and Chuuya, being the brave soul they were, both reacted as they usually did in this kind of situation.
“Yes, Ane-san.” They chorused.
“That’s what I thought. Start cleaning.”
After two hours of work, Atsushi walked home a bag full of exercises to do for their next meeting. His brain was fuzzy in the best way possible. For a kid who had never been to a real school, this situation could almost be called heavenly.
His thoughts were interrupted by big drops on his face. It was still raining a lot and the bad weather had even gained in intensity. On his way, he crossed the shopping arcade. Because of the meteorological conditions, there was hardly anyone here. A strange mist had even started to spread all around.
The sound of expensive shoes touching the ground.
Atsushi turned back.
Yet he could smell it. A sweet but metallic scent which spread like a toxic cloud. Where did the smell of blood come from?
He kept walking, his footsteps faster despite his tentative to remain calm.
I’m being paranoid, there is no one. Just breathe.
A soft chuckle.
He looked behind him but still nothing. What…
A few meters away stood a man he had never seen before with long white hair and red eyes.
“So I have finally found you.” It was but a mere whisper yet still hit him like a thunderclap.
The beast inside of him ordered him to run away but his body no longer obeyed him. It was only when the man was so close he could almost distinguish his teeth, that energy suddenly came back to him.
He had a distinguishable expression of pure bliss on his face. As if seeing Atsushi was the single greatest event of his life. Like he couldn’t wait to destroy him.
It was all he needed to get the control of his body back.
His hands still reeking of cleaning products, Dazai Osamu stood in front of his boss’ office. Washing the training area had been quite an annoying task especially with Chuuya trying to drop water on him every second.
“You can come in, Dazai-kun.” A sickeningly sweet voice announced.
To anyone who didn’t know his owner, it almost could have passed for a caring father’s tone. However, it was a widely known fact that monsters didn’t have emotions.
Dazai knew it from first-hand experience.
He went in.
“You wanted to see me, Boss.”
“Thank you for coming so quickly.” As if he had the choice. “A rather… concerning fact came to my attention not too long ago.”
“Is it about Kinoshita Kin’s health?”
“Indeed, one of my spies informed him he had met an unfortunate end.”
Kinoshita had been one of the most well-known ability user of Yokohama. Not because of his power but thanks to his fortune. The man was so rich it literally made salivate all gangs which were desperate to develop.
“They’ll want to get the hand on his money.”
“Glad you understand, Dazai-kun. I hope you know what it means.”
So much money would lead organisations on the warpath. It would eventually disturb the Port mafia’s business which they couldn’t allow.
“I’ll make sure my subordinates are ready to act when things start heating up.”
“It should be fine, I tasked the Colonel to take care of it but you never know what might happen so be ready, Dazai-kun. I also want you to take Chuuya-kun in your team for the time being, you’ll have to work together if things don’t go our way.”
Damn it. Why was this slug everywhere?
The colonel, a codename given to an executive who had once been part of the military, was known as one of the most powerful ability user (apart from the gremlin) so it should be fine. Why did he have to bother with Chuuya for the timebeing?
“Don’t make such a debjected face, Chuuya-kun and you get along so well !”
They obviously had quite a different definition of the expression “get along” but whatever.
“I’ll go back to my duties then.”
“So soon. Don’t leave, Dazai-kun ! Elise-chan went to see Kouyou-kun and I’m so lonely right now.”
“I’m sorry to hear it but I have work.”
“So go take care of it and have a nice day !”
“I will, boss.”
He’ll never understand why Mori insisted on keeping his amiable mask in front of him.
Atsushi was franctically looking for his phone.
The man was still following him, he could feel it. Although his silhouette had faded, his dark obsessive presence hadn’t. The tiger jostled in his mind, ordering him to let him gain control.
His phone seemed to have transformed into water. No matter how hard he tried he just couldn’t grab it.
Finally, with a shaky sob he managed to catch it.
He quickly opened it and called the first number he found. The only ones were from people he knew he could trust : Kunidika, his grandmother and …
“Nakajima, what’s wrong?”
He had totally forgotten about Oda-san.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t want to call-”
“Don’t worry, it doesn’t matter. Did you need anything?”
He quickly bit back the sob who desperately wanted to split his throat apart. He didn’t want to worry the adult.
“Tell me where you are. I’m coming.”
“You don’t need to-”
“Nakajima. Tell me where you are.”
“Oniyuri street. In the alley close to the clothes shop.”
“I’ll be here in a few minutes.”
“Th- Thank you.”
Why was he so nice toward him ? He didn’t deserve it.
An awful, insidious feeling grew in his stomach. The mist kept coming closer from him like tendrils. A relentless predator who wouldn’t leave him alone no matter what.
Flashbacks from the orphanage resurfaced.
Don’t let anyone touch you, it’ll only lead to pain.
He sank into the alleyway.
His heart beat loudly in his ears. The pressure was unbearable. As if every part of his body wanted to break his skin. He couldn’t even feel his tears fall out his eyes.
Hands suddenly grabbed his arms.
On instinct, he kicked the one who had caught him. His eyes jolted upside.
“It’s me, Nakajima.”
“O-Oda-san. I’m so sorry.”
God, he really was pathetic, wasn’t he? Panicking for nothing and kicking the one he had called for help.
“Don’t worry, it’s alright. Can you stand?”
His legs shook like those of a crazy puppet. No doubt he’d fall if he even tried.
“Stay still. I’m going to help you.”
As careful as possible, he carried Atsushi almost cradling him.
Why are his hands so warm? Atsushi wondered, his mind fuzzy.
“I’m going to bring you to your flat. Can you tell me where it is?”
Oda’s face was contorted with worry. So he sometimes did give up his cold expression.
A hand softly parted away the sweaty bangs stuck to his face.
“Everything will be alright.”
No one had ever touched him in such a kind manner. He both wanted to run away and to never let go.
As Oda went out of the alleyway, carrying the young kid as carefully as he could, his eyes moved to the muddy ground. The rain had washed every trace of people’s move yet…
Footprints stood in front of him. Far too big to belong to a kid and too unfamiliar to be his. Far too recent since they had barely started fading.
Someone was here.
The angel at the top of the bridge :
In Yokohama’s dark streets walked a man. None of his physical traits particularly caught attention. Curly chocolate hair and a symmetrical face. Some could have called him handsome if not for the almost sadistic grin he carried.
No one could have guessed this young was actually one of the most feared executive of the Port Mafia coming back from a mission.
His day had been exhausting and as it was often the case after this kind of day, a thick oppressive mist had invaded his mind. Without thinking, his steps led him to a bridge.
Under the moonlight, the streaming water had the appearance of melted silver. It shifted and slidded as if under the influence of a snake charmer.
“How beautiful.” He whispered, mesmerised by this spectacle.
Without thinking anymore, he let his feets leave the ground. The last thing he saw before hitting the liquid were two golden eyes.
Nakajima Atsushi had been spending a perfectly nice evening. After finishing his work for today, he had decided to go out in order to refresh his mind and seek inspiration for the next day.
It would be days before the moon show the entirety of its pale beauty. No reason to worry about any furry problems…
A few months before, he could have barely imagined life could be so pleasant. No physical or verbal abuse and the possibility to do what he liked most.
As he strolled in the streets, he often wondered if he truly deserved what had happened to him. Sometimes, during the night, he barely managed to keep the cruel voice out.
Those nights, Kunikida-senpai always answered his phone and talked to him until sleep claimed him.
He sighed softly and focused once again on what was around him.
Students were coming back from the university and employees were going out from bars. They emitted happiness like the sun emits light. Sometimes, Atsushi liked imagining how their life went.
However, this time, he needed a calm place in order to progress on his work. He still remembered the bridge, the first place of Yokohama he had seen. That’s where he decided to go.
His apartment wasn’t so far from his goal and a few minutes were sufficient to reach it.
He sat on the border, took out his notebook and started writing.
Or at least he tried.
Footsteps caught his attention. He lifted his head.
A man stood there, a bit older than Atsushi himself.
He then proceeded to jump into the river…
Atsushi stood up like a spring as a splashing sound made itself heard.
What’s just happened?
This man needs help.
Water cradled him like a loving mother. He felt himself drown slowly.
Goodbye, oxygen, you’ll no longer burn my lungs.
Gravity pushed him toward the river’s bed which would soon also be his if things went his way. How ironic for gravity to be one of the cause of his death. Chuuya would be proud.
I don’t want to think about the hatrack during my lovely suicide, Dazai decided quickly.
Breathing became more difficult. His body froze and burnt at the same time.
It would soon be over.
Until it no longer was.
Slim yet strong arms caught him and took him away from Death’s soft lips, carrying him back to the riverbank and life.
A kid ? was his first thought.
Then : Damn, I was so close this time.
He allowed himself to fall asleep.
Atsushi didn’t know anything about medicine and first aid techniques, yet he could say with almost total certainty that the man was alive. His chest rose slowly as if he was only taking a nap. In his relief, he barely cared about all the bandages which covered the man.
What am I supposed to do ? Maybe I should call Kunikida-senpai ? He might know what to do…
Just as those thoughts formed, the man (teenager? Did teenagers wear obviously very expensive suits?) opened his eyes. He blinked slowly and rose.
“Are you alright, sir?”
“I am… still alive? Why?”
“What- What do you mean “why”?”
Cinnamon coloured eyes turned their attention to him.
“Are you the one who saved me boy?”
Atsushi’s whole body hurt. Holding someone bigger than him had stolen a good part of his stamina. His clothes stuck to him in quite an unpleasant manner. He nodded softly.
“Aren’t you quite a little annoying stray?”
His tone was soft and calm but Atsushi felt ice bite his skin. This man, he…
Just as frost appeared, it melted away. Instead of the cold cruelty his eyes had carried, they now held a genuine curiosity.
“What were you doing here ? Were you also trying to commit suicide?”
“What, no ! Wait - suicide?”
“Quite eloquent, I see… Anyway, boy, shouldn’t you be home at this hour? Something unpleasant could happen to you.”
He barely bit back his comment “Are you going to hurt me?” and didn’t say anything. Shivers ran through his body. If he hadn’t been afraid of the consequences, he would have run away. For a moment, they both stared at each other like two statues.
After a while, the man smiled.
“It was quite rude of myself, wasn’t it? Insulting you after you bothered rescuing me. Can I pay you back in any way?”
Being polite had always been an obligation to Atsushi. A consequence of his often timid nature and of the orphanage.
The other part of himself still yelled at him to escape. All his predatory instincts deserting in front of someone who hadn’t even reached adulthood.
“There is no need, sir.”
A bright grin settled on the other’s face. Like a cat who just caught a bird, Atsushi couldn’t help but think.
“Are you sure?”
As he was about to agree, his stomach betrayed him and growled. They both were silent.
“May I buy something to eat?”
“You don’t need to.”
“Don’t be like that, boy, I’m going to think you’re scared of me. You’re not, aren’t you?” He smirked.
Now, he looked at him like a scientist curious to see how his experiment would turn out. In front of his hesitation, his smile (if it was possible) grew wider.
“Of course not, sir, I just need to go get my bag at the top of the bridge.”
“I’ll wait. Don’t run away, okay?”
“O-of course !”
The kid was funny, Dazai decided. A jumpy little thing who tried to appear brave. He liked it. A good person who didn’t want to hurt anyone, be it physically or emotionally.
This kind of person was rare to come upon, even in the world of light. He hadn’t exactly planned to torture him (the word was a tad too strong to describe his behaviour) but come on - he had failed his suicide and had nothing else to do to purge his mind of everything.
What should he have done ?
He led the kid toward Lupin’s and used this time to watch him. Silver - almost white - hair which fell on his shoulders and golden eyes. Puberty still hadn’t hit him. How young was he exactly? Dazai had never been good at determining someone’s age. He only dubbed people in two categories “useful” and “useless”.
He still wasn’t sure in which category he was going to put the kid.
Shivers and sneezes shook Atsushi. That’s not how he had expected to spend his evening. Following a stranger in an area of the city he had never explored wasn’t exactly a part of his plan.
“Excuse me, s-sir -”
“Name is Dazai.”
“Dazai-san, where are we going ?”
“Somewhere I like spending times to. Don’t worry I’m not going to kidnap you.”
Saying it aloud wasn’t really reassuring but it was too late to go back. He had the intuition running away from Dazai wouldn’t be possible as long as the teen focused on him.
They arrived to a dark alley and went into it. Things didn’t seem to improve.
In front of him, a sign where Lupin’s was written. It had been washed away by time and rain and thus had adopted a upsetting yellowish colour.
“Let’s go inside, then !” Dazai announced cheerfully.
They started walking downstairs. Muffled voices could be heard but some in particular seemed to increase Dazai’s already excited mood.
“So they are here tonight ! This night is getting more and more interesting.”
They arrived to a poorly lit room where few people were chatting. However, only those at the counter seemed to interest the strange man he had just met. Next to them stood a calico cat, busy cleaning itself.
“Odasaku ! Ango ! I brought us a new drinking buddy.”
This is not going to happen, Atsushi quickly decided. Maybe if he slipped away now that Dazai no longer looked at him…
However, the cat didn’t want to stop playing with his prey. A bandaged arm encircled his shoulders and brought him in front of the two men.
The first one, a severe almost austere man with round glasses stared at him.
“Dazai-kun, he is a child. He can’t drink alcohol.”
“Nonsense ! I had already started drinking at his age !”
This time a mischievous smile had settled. He didn’t really believe what he was saying, he only wanted to provoc the other. A new mask had appeared. Atsushi wondered how many of those he had.
Ravenous, mirthful and playful. How many facets did his personality have?
Maybe thinking about it would only end up in an headache. Some people were like water, no matter how long you spent you’d never be able to totally get them.
As lost as he was in his thoughts, he took quite a while to really see the other man. Wine coloured hair and an almost aloof expression.
“Good evening, sir.” He stuttered.
“Call me, Odasaku.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Atsushi bowed.
“Not fair, Odasaku has already activated his overprotective mother hen mode.” Dazai winced.
“What’s your name?” Oda continued, obviously used to Dazai’s antics.
“So that’s what I forgot to ask him !”
“You brought him here without asking his name, Dazai-kun !”
“Ango is scary when he wants to be. ~”
“I’m Nakajima Atsushi.”
Odasaku smiled softly. His blue eyes shone gently.
“Do you want to eat something? This bar doesn’t have a wide variety of food, maybe we should go to a restaurant… “
He often forgot to eat, still not quite used to have access to food. The fact his deadline was approaching didn’t help.
“Odasaku ! Don’t steal him away, I’m the one who said I’d buy him something to eat.”
He had for Dazai the kind of strong affection and tolerance a person would have for a younger sibling.
“Nakajima-kun, won’t your parents worry if you don’t get home soon?”
He didn’t know how much he should tell them but in reaction to Oda’s encouraging expression he found himself saying :
“There are no risks. I don’t have parents.”
Moment of silence.
“Well, Odasaku sure is going to adopt him now.”
“Are you living with relatives, then?”
“No, I- I have no idea who my family is. I’m living in a small apartment.”
“Really, how are you paying for it?”
His answers had revived Dazai’s curiosity or maybe it had just been put on hold for a moment.
“I have a job.”
“Aren’t you a bit too young?”
“No, don’t say anything, I’m sure I can guess what you do, Atsushi-kun.”
Why had such a joyful person tried to take his own life?
Don’t be an idiot. Do you really think depressed people wear a distinctive sign?
Depressed? Could he be ?
“You probably can.” Oda agreed. Then to Atsushi : “You should sit, no point in staying up.”
“I definitely can’t fail if Odasaku has faith in me. Well then, let’s get started, you’re quite a scrawny kid so probably not a physical job. Not a governmental job, no matter how hypocritical they are, they wouldn’t appoint someone underage. So, something linked to entertainment, isn’t it ?”
Him, being smart was hardly surprising. Someone who had played him as if he was a mere musical instrument couldn’t be totally stupid.
“It’s legal, I presume ?”
“Dazai-kun…” Ango warned him.
The fact he even had to ask told him more than he wanted to know about Dazai’s line of work.
“Can you sing, Atsushi-kun?”
“I’m a writer, or at least that’s the closest word to describe what I do.”
He wrote books, they seemed to be successful but he didn’t know why, so yes, it was a pretty good way to describe it.
This time, it was Odasaku, not Dazai who had spoken.
“Do you like reading, Oda-san?”
“Yes, I’d also like to write if I can, one day.”
“I’m sorry if it comes out as rude, but, why don’t you do it now?”
“I don’t deserve to write about life, not for the moment.”
“Writing isn’t about deserving something. I would never have been able to if it had been the case.”
A new staring contest was his answer. Maybe, he should have kept quiet.
“I’m sorry, I should take my leave.”
He stood up but as he was going to walk away, his feet came into contact with soft fur.
The ground met his face far too quickly for him to react.
Could this situation even worsen?
“Are you alright, Nakajima?”
“Yes, Ango-san. Thank you.”
“Should we go outside ? A bit of fresh air will help.”
“Please, don’t bother. I’m perfectly fine.”
The cat softly purred against his legs, unaware of the stir he had just caused. Or maybe he just didn’t care.
“Let’s get you something to eat.”
“I’m the one who invited him. Don’t steal him away.” Dazai pouted once again.
“Then, we should go somewhere where you can buy him something.”
“There is a good restaurant two streets away.” Ango said.
As he was busy listening to them, he didn’t notice the cat playing with his bag. Only when what it contained fell loudly on the ground did he realize it.
“Is that Tsukishiro Ren’s novel? Did you take inspiration from his work?” Oda asked.
“O ! Odasaku went into his fanboy mode.”
“His stories are good.” The older explained.
“I read a few of his short stories. It can be a bit hard to read per moment but it’s really interesting.”
Atsushi felt his cheeks burn. Getting praises hadn’t become any easier.
He inhaled deeply but it helped as much as pouring oil on a wildfire. A part of him hoped they hadn’t noticed his reaction. Yet, even after such a short amount of time, he had the strong impression nothing could escape Dazai.
“Interesting.” Dazai merely said.
“What do you mean?”
“It seems you finally got to meet one of your favorite authors, Odasaku.”
Fa- favorite author? I’ve only published two short stories collections !
“You’re Tsukishiro-sensei, Atsushi-kun?”
“Please don’t call me “sensei”.” He blushed.
If Ango still seemed doubtful, it wasn’t Oda’s case. He had merely accepted the fact that a well known author happened to be a twelve years old child.
It must be nearly impossible to shock him, Atsushi concluded.
“If Dazai says he is, it’s probably true.” Oda added.
“Still, he is far too young, how old are you exactly?”
“That’s what I mean, how could he- Are you some kind of genius?”
“I’m really not.”
He’d always remember. Those lonely days he’d spend, doing nothing but chores and how imagining stories had been the only way to live. To go further away than survival.
How it had helped him to keep his already severely wounded humanity. To remain sane.
You couldn’t spend your days doing one activity and not at least get a little good at it.
Oda-san nodded softly and led them outside.
“So what do you want to eat?”
“Anything is fine.”
“Come on ! You must have a favorite kind of food.” Dazai pushed him, putting back his arm around his shoulders. “Don’t worry about money.”
“I-I wou- wouldn’t mind ochazuke.”
A soft chuckle escaped Dazai.
“Ochazuke it is ! I hope you both don’t mind.”
“Not really.” Ango answered.
“I don’t really care.”
“Let’s go then, it would be a shame if such an interesting kid died of hunger after all.”
Why did this word seem to foreshadow awful things?
Before this moment, Dazai had barely paid attention to Tsukishiro Ren. He had heard about him from the slug and Ane-san but hadn’t cared. Why would a novice novelist interest him? He would probably disappear in a few months as it was often the case. The entertainment world could sometimes be as merciless as the mafia’s.
Yet, he had to admit his surprise. For such a young and bland person to be an emerging celebrity. It definitely deserved a place in the “useful” category.
He looked at him, at Nakajima Atsushi and how he tried to convince Odasaku he didn’t need a fifth bowl of ochazuke. A useless battle really, his slimness had condemned him to be taken care of by the assassin.
Ane-san liked describing his short stories as “bittersweet”, how they captured the darkness of the world without removing hope. Despite her so-called hatred for this feeling, the woman would always have a romantic heart and be sensible to the subject.
The dwarf liked them for how dynamic and epic they could be. He couldn’t hide his enthusiasm when a new story was published.
Maybe he could advantage of it.
“Atsushi-kun, would you mind signing me one of your book?”
“Of course not, Dazai-san.”
Ango sneaked a suspicious glance. He must have guessed what he wanted.
“I only have this exemplar, though, and it isn’t in its best shape.”
“Don’t worry, it’s not a problem !”
The boy took out his fountain pen and quickly wrote in it before giving it to Dazai.
“I hope you’ll like it.”
“I’m sure I will !”
After this, the meal quickly came to an end.
As Atsushi was about to walk home, Oda interrupted him. In his hand stood a paper with number on it.
“If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate, I’ll help you.”
“Thank you, Oda-san.”
“And I’d like to thank you for what you said sooner.”
“It’s nothing. I look forward to the day I’ll be able to read one of your story, Oda-san.”
An almost shy smile bloomed on the man’s face.
“Maybe I’ll send you one of my draft. If they can be given this name.”
“Thank you. I’ll make sure of reading it.”
“Have a good night, Nakajima. Please be careful on your way home.”
“I will. Good night.”
Dazai stood on his bed, wide awake. Once again, sleep had deserted him. How pleasant it would be to fall asleep forever. To finally get away from this overwhelming exhaustion…
He closed his eyes but still nothing. How he loved insomnia… Well, better not waste time on this endeavor.
He stared for a moment at the book he had brought back. Why not after all? He was bored and at least, he’d learn more about the kid.
He opened it and started reading

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression.
We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report.
The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment.
Tumblr is and always has been a place for creative expression, and these new regulations would only make it harder for you to express yourself with the freedom and clarity you do so now.
If you access Tumblr from Europe and want to act, you can find more information on saveyourinternet.eu.
Please reblog this as much as you reblogged the posts about Net Neutrality.
If Article 13 is approved, European People might be basically banned from uploading any fan content.
You won’t get new fanfics from people in Europe.
You won’t get new gifs from people in Europe.
You won’t get new fanart from people in Europe.
Because they’ll be automatically filtered and blocked!
We might leave Tumblr and other fandom pages.
And if we’re getting all our content blocked?
You might lose some of your favourite followers/mutuals.
You might not get to read the rest of that fic you’re dying to read - simply because the writer lives in the wrong country.
So do whatever you can to help us stop this.
CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO TELL THEM YOU DON’T WANT ARTICLE 13 TO BE APPROVED IF YOU’RE EUROPEAN! DO IT VIA THE HOMEPAGE
SIGNAL BOOST PLEASE
THIS IS IMPORTANT AGAIN
reblogging again because our govern is shit please help us
y'all really wanna mess up the only good thing in my life???
this shit can suck dick.°
dont believe this shit
All are locked in a warehouse.
Higuchi: it could be worse.
Dazai: Yes, we could have our best friend dying in our arms.
Atsushi: They could have amputated our legs or left us in an abusive orphanage.
Ranpo: Or have left us trapped in a book.
Tanizaki: Or having seen our sister almost die.
Yosano: Or being in the middle of a terrorist attack on a train.
Akutagawa: Or dancing.
With all the BSD official twitters tweeting about it, I’m not sure how much more evidence you need for it to be legit! :)
Here are some links to Dazai’s works from the BSD Recommended Reading List:
And here is a list of the books available in English and their ISBN-13 in case you want to look them up:
These are the only novels and short story collections by Dazai available in English that I know of. The Saga of Dazai Osamu is a gem because it has an in depth analysis of Dazai and his works as well as a few short stories (”Recollections” is one of them) and the novel Tsugaru.
Good luck! I hope that you can read and enjoy Dazai to your heart’s content!
