think botticelli would be mad?
from Designa: Technical Secrets of the Visual Arts (truly recommend this book for any kind of designer or artist. there are multiple books in one packed with fantastic knowledge and the way the pages are designed is perfect for those of us with short attention span)
i’ll be honest, as a visual artist i’ve worked to “train my eye” for compositions that work from the very start, as an art student i learned to train my eye to relate colors, space, lights and shadows appropriately. the golden ratio has never came to mind whilst i am painting or creating anything really. it’s usually trial and error for me and loving the process regardless if the end result is “worth” my investment.
i do feel what is missing in my work is technique, application, and execution…so everything, lol. i think it’s a common thing for young artists to want to jump to picasso’s level of being able to break the rules in art. but in order to break them, we must first learn them. it’s something one of my teachers tried drilling into my head, but at the time i felt learning these techniques were not necessary for my artistic expression. i believed it will limit me instead, and i wanted to be a ✨surrealist✨ therefore i did not need to pay so much attention to this technicality.
well, obviously i’m a lot more mature now and realize that i was completely wrong. i do love painting from imagination, but i always come across things feeling off, unbalanced, and flat. anyway, got bored ranting, i’m becoming more technical so i can be surreal and maniacal later on in life. yep.
creative writing prompt: write a letter to someone you have a lot to say to and be as raw as you feel you need to be, then read it over and cut up words/lines and turn that into a poem. genius, i know.
randomly inspired by enchanted rose glasses and this glowing painting a prof did of their kid a few years back. other news, i recently discovered i don’t have an artistic vision. i am just art blob, all over the place.
bit more progress this morning. got a lot of work to do on that celestial body, cuz ma’am, that is not our Selene, she is an imposter!
it’s all fun and games until they ask you to include digital images of at least 5, but no more than 10 examples of your work to provide the jury with a “clear idea of your vision”…😳🤯😰
changes tonight, whole sky still feels weird but i’m liking the water and sand better
fucking around tonight, i somehow always come back to the same landscapes
