I’m not sure I’ll be able to articulate my thoughts exactly, but those who think Beauyasha are fetishized have not been watching the same show.
I mean their relationship is sexual, certainly, but that’s like the least talked about/least interesting thing about them.
Both characters individually have nothing inherently sexual about them, I.E. their characters are complex and flawed and given room to change and grow. I’ve never seen fetishized characters been given that. They both had ample time to shine within their stories, Beau with the Cobalt Soul stuff and her dad, Yasha with the Obann stuff and the Storm Lord. Neither of their characters/arcs ever revolved around them as sexual beings. Their worth has never been tied to their sexualities/bodies. They’re honestly great examples of well written women. You love to see it.
Also the majority of their relationship has been about respect and love and boundaries. They literally had a date that, if they had been fetishized, would have just been them having sex the whole time. Instead, we got 2 hours of them talking about how much they love each other as well as their fears, expectations, wants, and needs. I mean they had sex at the end but again, least talked about/least interesting thing that happened there (the scene literally fades to black).
Seriously, Marisha has some sexy art a friend of hers drew about a character she herself made with a character another friend of hers made, and this is somehow enough to say their fetishized?
What show have y’all been watching because I just don’t understand?
I get it if you didn’t get out of Beauyasha what you may have wanted for a WLW relationship, that’s fine, but that doesn’t make their relationship poor rep and that also doesn’t mean the cast/campaign has fetishized them.
Not all queer relationship are sexual and that should be explored more for sure, but that doesn’t mean that queer relationships that are sexual are bad...
