“I just killed a man! This isn’t the moment to discuss our marriage.”
“Nonsense. Marrying amid bloodshed is a de Clermont family tradition,” Philippe said briskly. “We only seem to mate creatures who are desired by others. It is a messy business.”
“I. Killed. Him.” Just to be sure my message was clear, I pointed to the body on the floor.” - Deborah Harkness, Shadow of Night

Still in the morning, Diana meets Henry Percy, the Earl of Northumberland, who is beyond happy and excited by Matthew having married. Soon after Sir Walter Raleigh—irritated by the queen’s treatment of him—arrives as well, although he proves to be way more wary of Diana than Henry. All of them moving to the parlor, Matthew tells his friends the truth: that his wife is a witch from the future who uncovered a mythical book and now is in need of their help. Kit keeps making jealous, slighted quips, but Raleigh keeps silencing him with pointed remarks. In the end Raleigh—Matthew’s equal in temper and authority—is won over, which means that now the whole group is ready to do whatever it takes to help Diana. An agreement is reached that she’ll need clothes, a woman to teach her how behave in a way to blend in, and a witch, to teach her magic.
(After Raleigh implied that Diana must be Henry’s lover)
“The Earl of Northumberland rested his toasting fork on the hearth and considered his friend. He shook his head and returned to his work. ‘Go out, come in again, and ask Matt for his news. And look contrite when you do it.’”
I can’t with them. I just can’t. Look at them. SO PRECIOUS.
I’m watching ADOW again cause why not? This episode (s01e04) is so beautiful. I love to see Matthew so content, dancing with his mom and Diana. Matthew Good and Teresa Palmer are fantastic, we can’t deny the chemistry between them. The perfect cast!
Have you read the books yet? I’ve read the first book so far but I’m planning to catch up before season 2 starts… Do you like the books? What about the series? Let’s talk about vampire, demons and witches!

Matthew and Diana safely arrive at the Old Lodge in 1590. Right after their arrival, they meet the daemon Christopher Marlowe—who takes an instant dislike to Diana for being a witch and mainly for being loved by Matthew—, and two de Clermont servants, Pierre and Francoise. Going downstairs, Diana also meets the writer George Chapman, one of Matthew’s friends. The next morning, Kit barges into Diana and Matthew’s room with another daemon, the scatter-brained but well-meaning Thomas Harriot. Kit is hell-bent on figuring out who Diana is and what makes her so strange, but Matthew foils his attempts by sending everyone but the servants out of the room. Diana figures out that basically the whole School of Night is waiting downstairs, which makes her lash out at Matthew for not telling her about his friends all being super important historical figures before they left Madison. While dressing her, Francoise notices Diana’s scars, which shocks her and Pierre. Matthew tells them the truth about Diana, although he leaves out that he, too, is from the future—although the two servants most likely suspect it. Diana is trying to calm everyone down, downplaying the previous events, because she doesn’t want to start a feud between vampires. Francoise assures her that there’s nothing to be done: by hurting her Satu and her accomplices offended the de Clermonts, so retribution is needed. Dressed up and ready for the day, Matthew and Diana go downstairs to meet the Earl of Northumberland.
“Pierre, familiar with the signs of a woman on the edge, hastily thrust a set of black britches at my husband so he wouldn’t be bare legged when my anger erupted.”

‘Shadow of Night’ by Deborah Harkness
“You have found a woman who is worthy of you, with courage and hope to spare, Matthaios.’ ‘I know,’ Matthew said, taking my hand. ‘Know this, too: you are equally worthy of her. Stop regretting your life. Start living it.”
