A response to “Coming to Grips with a Government that Wants to Kill Me” by John Brentner
NOTE: I saw this in a post and originally shared the post with this response. I changed my mind and decided not to give a platform for Brentner where others had to read his letter. I encourage those interested to read his letter, however it is long and very factually inaccurate. I did my best to represent his relevant arguments below.
This letter, I believe, to be in either made in blatant disregard for fact-based discussion or made by a person so blinded and consumed by one side that it is harmful. Following, are my observations and rebuttals to what is written above.
To start this letter, an accusation is made about Biden "walked up to an outdoor microphone and repeatedly and angrily declared, 'the unvaccinated are murderers.'" I tried to find this through google and was unable to find any record of this. This accusation is followed by paragraphs 2-4 containing the thesis claiming the Biden administration is one of death.
The first topic brought to support this is the abortion debate. I will not be addressing this larger debate as it has not been shown that debate can be had between the opposing sides due to the polarization. However, the allegations of harvesting limbs and/or organs of live babies has been disproven. If you would like to learn more about this, please check out: https://oversight.house.gov/planned-parenthood-fact-v-fiction#_ftn2.
The second leg of this argument is Biden's "Surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban." Biden did not surrender to the Taliban, rather fulfilled Trump's agreement to end the 20 years of war with the Taliban (the Doha Agreement, the full text can be found online here: https://www.state.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Agreement-For-Bringing-Peace-to-Afghanistan-02.29.20.pdf). The letter also referred to the hearing to receive testimony on the conclusion of military operations in Afghanistan and plans for future counterterrorism operations on September 28th, 2021 (https://www.armed-services.senate.gov/hearings/to-receive-testimony-on-the-conclusion-of-military-operations-in-afghanistan-and-plans-for-future-counterterrorism-operations). Pages 38 and 39 are where Sen. Inhofe R(OK) conjectured that ~4,000 Americans could be in Afghanistan without a path out (the initial est. of 10-15 thousand Americans there - the 6,000 that had been evacuated). However, this is false as SoS Blinken came out with the official count of Americans needing evacuation as of Aug 14th on August 25th. Here is the process followed to come up with that number: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/08/29/how-number-americans-afghanistan-went-15000-6000/.
The author goes into the Aug 26th Kubal Bomb Attack, which killed 60 Afgan Nationals and 13 US Service Members. The letter leads the reader to believe this was 1 car bomb that the Taliban protected from the American drone by telling Biden no. The first issue with this is that the attack was carried out by 2 gunmen in different locations carrying suicide bombs. Second, the Taliban were not a part of this attack and condemned it. The attack was carried out by ISIS-K (the Islamic State's branch in Afganistan), who are enemies of the Taliban.
The third argument made here is that the government has been both inflating the covid death numbers as well as actively killing Americans through suppression of drugs like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin while intubating patients and giving them remdesivir. The writer also gives numbers from an Oct 1st report to the CDC on adverse effects of the Covid-19 vaccine. I have not seen this report, but strongly believe this doesn't exist as the data the author gives from it seems dubious at best. 605 hospitalizations while 7,868 "heart attacks" are not logical, as a MI requires hospitalization. It also gives 6,812 "myocardia," which means muscles of the heart (Myo - Muscle, Cardia - Heart). If this document does exist, I would like to see it.
The letter goes on a tangent about camps for the unvaccinated, specifically looking at the UK and Australia. This is not something that is happening and has been fact-checked by numerous agencies many times.
The author also complains that the government "claim(s) the right to incarcerate terrorists, which includes people like me." This is true to an extent. Following 9/11, there was a political push to allow the government to do whatever it takes to stop terrorism. This includes the imprisonment of 'terrorists' without trial or with minimal trial. Every president in the US since 9/11 has used this power regardless of party affiliation. During the Trump era, I became warier of this as I am an anarchist and Trump (Biden, Obama, and Bush as well, but to a lesser extent) was calling leftists (Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, ect.) terrorists. This is not something anyone on the right seemed to care about until Jan 6th when the far-right attempted to take the capitol building.
The last ~12 paragraphs are religious beliefs, calling the coming times the end times, and warning that we must change our ways. I will not be addressing these as it would be a waste of time. Those who believe that the end is coming soon (as has been predicted time and again) will not be dissuaded from that belief. These beliefs, however, have no place in political discourse as we have a separation of church and state, in that one person's religion cannot be allowed to dictate the actions of one not of the same belief.
I hope what I have said will reach some people and show the disinformation which the author and likely others are putting out.
