BUT if your favorite drama was a success and received an enormous amount of love, then there’s a chance the memories just don’t end there.
LOL I’m super far away from China and super broke (so I have no way to travel) but still I’m excited about the upcoming fanmeeting. And the fact that we got confirmation that Rowoon and Hyeyoon will be attending!!! our main couple, our Danharu… AHHHH! I’m just so happy that the work these two did is being recognised not only in their country but in others as well. They worked so hard.
Btw I knew the drama was popular in China, but I think I read that it was also popular in Taiwan, no? Also, on instagram and on twitter I see a lot of posts in different languages, A LOT, so it’s safe to assume that this drama took Asia by storm, right? (And I mean, in other parts of the world as well, but no way they’re gonna have any fanmeetings in Europe or America).
So, so happy. I hope the whole main cast gets to attend. And of course, I hope my two babies get the Couple Award (and their respective rookie awards) at the end of the year.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who has picked up on the similarities of these two ships and yet, learned over the course of the drama how vastly different they were.
The first thing that comes to mind is how both Haru and Dohwa gained their self awareness. On Flower, Haru became self aware after he followed Danoh and fell for her. Yes, it was his setup to be in love with her as the second lead but he did it on shadow too. And who else was the second lead of another story and fell for the heroine for real? Yep. That’s right. Dohwa. And he also became self aware after that.
I’m not saying that falling in love somehow gives you self awareness… but I guess I’m really saying that. LOL
And of course, Danoh and Juda also fell for their respective second leads after they became self aware. However, Danoh never liked Baek Kyung (at least not on a romantic way) whereas Juda did like Namjoo too, in the end. And we know that she ended up choosing him, but from where I see it, she did it because she did not know the whole truth about the terrible world they live in.
Juda chose Namjoo based on the argument that she had already suffered enough on Secret and deserved her happy ending, already decided for her. She thought that maybe she would get to have a life with Namjoo. So she said “Bye bye, Dohwa, I don’t have the courage to go against the writer’s wishes and change my fate”. I will always wonder what would she have done if she knew there was no such a thing as a happily ever after?
Such a whole opposite of how Danoh was determined to change her setup, how much she wanted to live and then, later on the story, how much she hated the stage and her love line with Baek Kyung because she was so in love with Haru and she wanted to at least have control over her heart and who she wanted to be with, even if it was only in shadow.
And you cannot tell me that the reason for all of this was because she was an extra. We know she wasn’t an extra on Flower and she was still determined to follow her heart and change the story.
What Juda lacked (courage and bravery which are, by definition, atributes of a female heroine)Danoh had it by miles. Even if you think that Danoh’s character changed for the “worse” as the episodes went on and that Juda became a “badass”, I still think the real heroine was Danoh. She was always brave and had a smile and a positive state of mind despite everything.
Lee Dohwa deserved someone who loved him as much as Danoh loved Haru, but I guess that’s also where the beauty of their love and connection lies. No other couple is like them, that’s why they were the main OTP of the show. And gave us a lesson on true love.
A lot of people wish that Dowhwa and Juda could be reunited on another manhwa where they are the leads or nameless extras like Danharu. I do not support this. I think that they weren’t supposed to be together, even if they liked each other, because it has been made clear to me by Danoh and Haru, that if you truly love someone in this world of manhwas, you will put everything on the line to be together.
Extraordinary You is the reason I stick to the fluffy and silly romcoms and the fantasy easy watches that, defying all logic, end up with a happily ever after. Here’s the thing about humans: we don’t lilke to suffer. And in a world like ours where so much pain, ignorance and horrors are happening already, we escape to fictional stories about good and brave heroes who encounter a life altering problem, struggle for a bit and then, get their well deserved happy ending. A good plus is if there’s romance in the mix because humans are social creatures who don’t like to be alone and well, who doesn’t love the idea of being loved by the person you want?
If you think about it, all the stories are the same. The characters, the setups and the details are the ones that change.
So, even after knowing all this, I have to wonder, why did I allow myself get so emotionally invested in such a sad story of these fictional characters (Danoh and Haru) and their f*cked up and horrifying ficitional world?
Well it could be for a number of things. Personally, I’m a shipper. I enjoy, really enjoy a well made love story and a really good couple with awesome chemistry made up by two individuals who are as interesting together as they are apart. And I’m a sucker not only for romance but for the we were in love in another life were things ended badly kind of trope. I know many people don’t like this and think of it as extremely cliché, but if the couple makes me believe in their love and I find their story to be compelling, you bet your shipper hearts I will love it as well.
So that’s what happened with Extraordinary You. And because I wanted to know more, basically all I could about the world and the mithology of it, I read a good part of the webtoon… untill I realized that the whole thing was pretty much a tragic story. And as much as I hoped the drama would’t go there, each episode, week by week, I was becoming more and more certain things were pretty much destined to be a giant tragical mess with a bittersweet ending. And by episode 16, I couldn’t even cry, despite feeling sad, somehow relieved and a bit brokenhearted by the fact that Danharu are destined to live like this for the eternity of the manhwa world.
Sometimes I get so emotional that I just feel all but can’t even put it into words nor can I show it. I felt drained and empty and not only because of this story, that got to me so much, was ending, but also because I wished for an absolute perfect happy conclusion for Danoh and Haru (that I knew weeks ago we wouldn’t get) that is just not gonna happen.
I’m just wondering about everything and why, why did these two people who love each other more than anyone else in their world and are good, have to go through this whole ordeal each f*cking time so they can be together for as little or as much as the writer allows them?
I picked up this drama thinking that it would be a funny quirky show with a fun twist of fantasy. Didn’t even expect it to be a favorite or to like it a lot. And what I got left me feeling emotionally drained and tired. And sad. And happy, as well. It’s such a weird mix of emotions… and I welcome it. Despite everything. Because I gave my heart to these characters but also, you can be sure as hell that I won’t be picking up shows like this in a long while. LOL I need to recover.
I love this show so much and it had so many memorable moments and romantic scenes. And one of the things I found more endearing is that not even once the lines that Haru said to Danoh came off as chessy or over the top, cause I could feel his sincerity.
I’m really glad that, despite the ending these two had on Secret, their time there was still far better than in Flower. In Secret they had their time to get to know each other, be friends and fall in love again, in contrast to Flower were not only the stage put a wall between them, but they also had the difference of social classes because Haru was the Prince’s puppet who also murdered people by night and Danoh was a daughter of a noble family. And poor Haru never even called her by her name until she couldn’t hear it. *sobs uncontrollably*
In Flower Haru never had the oportunity of being open about his feelings, but in Secret he was forward about them, wasn’t shy about how he felt for Danoh, flirted many times, enjoyed making Danoh flustered and they even kissed. I can only imagine the possibilities in the new story were they are older, have a lot more free time to make a life together (however short) and don’t have to worry about annoying setups and stages.
Extraordinary You, despite how much you broke my heart I forgive you, cause I think there are some things that are worth getting hurt over. And getting to know and watch this story was most definitely worth it.
P.s. I hope that, in a few years down the road, we get another drama starring Rowoon and Kim Hyeyoon. I just think that it would be a waste for dramaland to not have them in another drama again. If they could deliver like this, when they have few projects under their names and are still young, imagine what could it look like when they are more experienced actors and more mature. Ah, the endless possibilities.
So I get how the way the drama ended is a somewhat logical or the expected one.
But I can’t help but think of a ending that satisfies me more. ^^
The writer had all these characters based on true people around him. the writer would even draw himself as kyung’s brother who always tries to make kyung happy somehow cause he wronged him in real life.
so both kyung and his brother endup learning to grow and to be happy on another terms.
The writer did seem aware of what happens in the shadow on some level.
So in that case we would see haru and danoh in real life all happy and in love, also all extras living their life then we’d see kyung and his brother talking about him writing a new webtoon so we’d know that webtoon haru and danoh still meet again.
I don’t know.
I just feel if the last two episodes went like this I would’ve enjoyed it more
EY, so where is my bts on the second kiss scene? Release it, cowards… please. LOL Idk why but I have a feeling it was hilarious to film it. I want to see Rowoon and Hyeyoon nervously rehearsing it. It also looks like they put something for Hyeyoon to step on because Rowoon didn’t have to bend over so much this time…
I just had the amazing revelation that if they release enough lighthearted and silly content on the bts, maybe the withdrawal symptoms and the mess of feelings left by the ending won’t be too much?
First times and last times they see each other across the stories. I’m sorry, I just had to.
First time they met each other on Flower
vs Last time they see each other on Flower
(It always, always gets me the look of raw pain and horror on Haru’s face…)
First time they see each other on Secret
(My god, the lack of emotion or recognition on Haru’s face is almost tragic. He was the one in utter despair last time while Danoh was dying in his arms. And here she’s the one showing the emotions.)
vs Last time they see each other on Secret.
(Excuse me, I’m still crying… And before you think I did her dirty in that picture, let me say that I chose that one because of the sadness and desperation on her face. And I just love how Haru wipes off her tears and tries to be strong for the both of them and tells her not to cry. My heart is in pieces.)
First time they see each other on the next story
(I think Haru doesn’t dare to believe that she’s here and that she’s real. Is like he is afraid she might dissapear if he blinks.)
vs Last time WE see them on the new story
You can see the pain and the relief on their faces after finding each other yet again on another story and holding on to the other for dear life. And what gets to me the most about their love is the fact that even after all the pain and heartbreak, they still choose to be with the other. Even if they know the story will end, that they might never see each other in another manhwa or have to go trough all the ordeal again. Their love is worth it and so, they keep choosing each other and fighting for it. It makes for a bittersweet ending, really.
Not quite another couple or love story in other dramas has made me feel so much how desperately in love they are and made me certain that they will put everything on the line for the happiness of the other. Even their own lives. This is the most clear definition of pure and true love I’ve ever seen on a drama, without a doubt.
(Can this be their happily ever after? Probably not, but at least we know they’re gonna keep finding each other across the different manhwas, different setups and characters. Their love is forever. This is the happy ending FOR US)
Thank you, Danoh and Haru, for letting us know your story. And thank you for the laughs, the cute moments, the swoon, the flirting, the hugs, the kisses and even the pain, the tears and the endless reunions. I’m gonna miss you. I wish you the best.
Now we can all cry together.
P.s Mad props to Rowoon and Kim Hyeyoon. If there’s one thing that made us believe in Danharu’s love is their amazing acting and off the charts chemistry. They’re so young and still managed to convey this difficult and painful love story like seniors in the industry. Outstanding.
People of the world, this show was always meant to be tragic, emotional and confusing. I realized that when Haru dissapeared after saving Danoh and came back without memories and we started getting the flashbacks to Flower. I knew then, that we were in for a big freaking mess!!! If you don’t like what the show became, the only thing that I can say to you is that you could have jumped ship around that time (please don’t be mad!). Trust me, I dropped an insanely popular drama of this year after barely finishing watching episode 3. The option, if you don’t like the story, is always there.
Yes, maybe the execution was a bit flawed in the last 2-3 weeks, when the plot slowed down its pace, but the story was consistent to me. I could feel this was where the writers wanted to go and I’m glad that I stuck around. But tbh Haru and Danoh had me in their hands since the moment they lock eyes at the end of episode 2.
I did not watch many dramas this year, but this show had everything I was longing for and even if I became too emotionally invested and was hurting along with the characters for the last 4 episodes, it was a joy to watch it.
I’m ready for the ending while also being terribly sad that my favorite drama of the year (and also one of my all time favorite dramas) has reached its end. Maybe I’m like Danoh and Haru, after being warned that this could end badly and hurt a lot, and I ended up making my own choices, even if the writer had the last word.
so, how are we gonna do this? We have 2 episodes of one hour each, left. It’s the final week and that are many unanswered questions AND on top of it all, Danoh’s memory and self awareness have been wiped.
How it’s Haru gonna proceed? Is he gonna try to make Danoh self aware like she did at the beggining when she thought he couldn’t remember her? Or is he gonna take Danoh’s approach when he himself lost his memories and she decided that she wouldn’t change anything anymore? Is he gonna limit himself to just protecting her like the first couple of episodes?
OR, what if Danoh, becomes self aware on her own? Given the fact that she has done this in the past, maybe this could be the direction the show takes?
I’m just here hoping that this whole ordeal lasts, on maximum, an hour. And while Danoh is busy recovering her memories/self awareness, the show tries to give clousure or answers to other parts of the story that don’t involve her like:
the Namjoo-Juda-Dohwa love triangle
the Secret manhwa storyline
Why were Squid Fairy and Kyung’s brother self aware from the get go and why do they remember everything that went down on Flower? I know Haru has some of his memories now (however I think he still believes he killed Danoh on the last manhwa) but he didn’t even had a personality, let alone memories, when he first appeared on Secret. What did the other 2 characters do remember all?
Who the hell is Baek Kyung’s brother and why does it seem like he knows where the story is going and how will it end?
what hapenned in Flower after Danoh was killed? How did the story ended?
How did Haru came to Secret? We know for a fact that he wasn’t meant to be in the story.
This is a personal plus for me, but I hope Baek Kyung feels guilty and tormented about some recent revelations (i.e. that he killed Danoh once and then tried to murder her a second time). I need some sense of justice.
LOL Is like I’m not asking for much, right? Look, all sarcasm aside, I’ll be happy if they just give us some hints or short answers to some of the above. However, I think the most pressing points are the Secret storylines and the topic of self awareness on Squid Fairy and Baek Kyung’s brother (I’m so so sorry, I can’t never remember his name).
If we get some development on these parts and Danoh comes back as the Danoh we know and love (and Haru loves), I think we’re perfecly positioned to close the drama in one hour. And then you know:
get clousure for most of our characters (I’m no even asking for all of them or have many expectations on how). Especially Dohwa. He deserves the world, my poor puppy.
A just ending for Baek Kyung. And even if it’s out of character, let him accept finally that he and Danoh were never meant to be, even if the writer tried to. Let him be good for once. Maybe don’t make him a villain in the next story, writer?
Also, are we ever going to find out how those blackholes work and why are they there?
Is Danoh gonna have some memories from her past in Flower also? Like Haru and Baek Kyung?
Give Danoh and Haru their happy ending! Please let them be happy and together. Or at least let them have a happy ending in another story. It’s been widely theoryzed that maybe wer’re getting another manhwa for our OTP (and given some spoilers I’ve seen online, this might be true). I’m down. For me this is the most happy ending that we’re gonna have given the story and also it would be so meaningful because it just adds to the idea that no matter in what stroy they are, Danoh and Haru will always find each other and fall in love.
Finally, I will tell you something. If we don’t get answers or proper explanations to the things that we were confused about BUT we get a happy ending for Danoh and Haru, I will be 100% ok with it. Because, let’s be honest, dramas are not perfect and I think this show suffered a bit last week due to the fact that they are live filiming (where did the time go? They started filming in june!) and their writers are rookies. I aplaud them, honestly. They did a wonderful job for it to be their first time. And I.LOVE.THIS.DRAMA. TO PIECES. It hasn’t ended yet and it’s already on my all time favorite dramas. And I love these actors soo so much, especially Rowoon and Kim Hye Yoon. Their chemistry is truly a joy to watch and without it, I’m sure the drama would have been A LOT more different and way less sucessful. They were really the perfect picks to play Haru and Danoh.
This was first and foremost, a romance drama. And we got that. A beautiful heartbreaking and breathtaking love story. And I love it.
Just saw ep 13 (25-26) again but with subs. I saw it raw the first time, but I think regardless of whether you understand Korean or not, the editing seemed a little off this time. Hope it was just a one time thing because I don’t think they’re exactly live filming it as they should be wrapping everything up on the following days (If anything, they’re focusing right now on next week’s episodes). Anyway, watching it a second time I could actually get the part of the story that the episode was trying to tell and I enjoyed it.
True, not much happened in terms of development, but we did have sadness, jealousy and longing (and some advancing to Juda and Dohwa’s story!). Which is bound to happen at this point in the drama even if it’s a romcom (or should I say especially because it’s a romcom? C’mon, you know dramaland.)
One bad episode is not going to make me hate all the other 12 that I did love (yep, I even liked the ones with amnesiac Haru. He was hot and Rowoon did an amazing job portraying him). We still have 3 episodes (or six, depending on how you count them) left and I have faith in the drama writer, the director, the actors and the staff.
I’m being positive and I think that’s one of the lessons this drama and Danoh has been trying to thaught us.
On to episode 14!
P.s. I love the classes in this drama. Those are full of clues of what’s happening in the episodes and sometimes make you reflect on the whole thing. Really cool and meta. One of the little details I like most about the story.
Not really prepared for the sad fest that is gonna be Extraordinary You this week… but also, I’m like super anxious and I’m like please give me this week’s episodes right now!! I NEED TO KNOW HOW FLOWER ENDED!! I need to know what went wrong!! (and finally decide whether or not to be angry at Squid Fairy for whitholding the information all this time)
Anyway, y’all, ready to cry? lmao
#extraordinary you #july found by chance #a day found by chance #haru#danoh#kdrama#sad fest #that preview really messed me up #haven't been able to properly function for about a week #you know which 3 seconds i'm talking about
