BIOGRAPHY (trigger warnings: death, horror themes, recreational drug use)

    CHILDHOOD

Audrey was just a year shy of starting her primary education at Crescent Harbour Prepatory School when the Baker family moved into Cresswell Manor, just outside of Crescent Harbour. It was the hottest summer on record, according to biographers but Audrey doesn’t recall any of that. Instead, her memories of that year of her life are plagued with fear and anxiety, confusion and questions that she fears may never be answered, even more than two decades later.

On the day she and her adoptive parents and siblings set foot on the property, Audrey, the youngest of five, had fallen in love with the sweeping estate. With acres to explore and nooks and crannies of all sorts peppered throughout the ageing manor, it was a small child’s dream to live in such a whimsical place. For the first few days, in fact, in her childish whimsy, Audrey felt like a princess, Cresswell Manor her castle. She didn’t see the cracks in the foundation, nor the leaks in the ceiling. The outdated wiring didn’t bother her and in the outdated architecture, she saw beauty.

It was only two short weeks, however, before Audrey met the Woman in the Window for the very first time. This encounter was the first of many but the most significant in that it would set in motion a turn of events that would change the lives of the Baker family forever. After that night, the Baker family would suffer a volume of eerie experiences; lights would stutter and switch off and on at random, the pipes would groan in the walls, doors would slam shut and mysteriously lock their own and more of the Baker children would swear they had seen strangers on the property once the sun went down. Though their mother had started to suffer unexplained and nearly unbearable migraines, perhaps as a result of the stress or something more sinister, the family stayed put until one traumatic night when even the stoic Mr Kyle Baker couldn’t take it any longer and whisked his family out of the manor, abandoning the property for good.

Once Mrs Baker’s claims of being possessed by an evil spirit within the manor started to surface, a media circus took hold of the Baker family, consuming each of their lives for years. There was a Hollywood feature, numerous book deals, prime time interviews and news scoops and more. The manor itself became a curiosity, a landmark for horror hobbyists and fans of the paranormal alike. The Baker family’s story became an international ghost tale, an extraordinary event to some, a laughing stock to others, and Audrey Baker, nearing her fifth birthday, understood none of it.

    AFTERMATH

Audrey has never felt quite comfortable discussing the events that took place in Cresswell Manor that year. She has tried to grapple with her memories of what happened, she has read every book and every article detailing the events and yet, she still feels no closer to understanding what she or any of her family members went through within the walls of the decaying manor. As an adolescent, she used music composition to express the emotions she failed to put into words. Instead of talking about how she felt, she sewed it into sheet music, written for the piano. The youngest Baker had always been considered a musical talent, even when she had first started taking piano lessons as a form of therapy at age six. When she grew older, however, and started composing her own music, it became clear that she was a prodigy of sorts.

Her knack for music, both performance, and writing earned her a scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, New York, where she would study under some of the finest faculty in the country. Just a few semesters shy of graduating from the institution with a Master of Music (MM), Audrey was suddenly expelled from the School, after her involvement in a catastrophic campus party, resulting in the injury of several students, the arrest of another, and the discovery of many underaged partygoers. Despite the accidental death of her older brother when he was just nineteen, Audrey has often used partying, recreational drug use, promiscuous sex, and binge drinking as a method for coping with the trauma of her childhood and the events that followed as a result of the so-called Cresswell Manor haunting. For the most part, she had managed not to allow her social life to interfere with her professional life but her reckless antics finally caught up with her in the form of savage karma when her scholarship was immediately revoked and she was given ten days to remove herself from the Manhattan campus.

    PRESENT

After getting kicked out of her college dormitory building, Audrey stayed in New York City for a while, picking up odd jobs and struggling to make ends meet while living in a shitty apartment in an even shittier neighborhood. When life in the City became financially impossible for the failed musician, she retreated to her childhood home in Crescent Harbour, Washington, something she swore she would never succumb to, even when things were at their very worst. She doesn’t want to leech off of her older siblings or the family estate too much but she knows that the only way for her to get back on her feet is to lean on Elizabeth (and Harriet if she absolutely has to) while she rebuilds her savings and finds a new path for her career as a musician.
