haven’t updated in a bit! a good bit has happened since going to east with amanda. i went to west with ella, sark, and eden, where we happened to see dallas training and peter! turns out sark climbs V8s ?!?!??!! crazy!!! he was helping me figure beta on an orange V3 on the arete (spelling?) by the steps. it was a super weird sit start immediately up to grabbing a sloper, then left hand to basically a volume, then right hand to basically a volume. there’s more but it was straightforward from there. it took me all sesh but i got past the confusing bit and got to the final hold! only when i jumped down did i realize i hadn’t matched at the final, but actually put my hand over the wall :( that bummed me out and i was pumped so i had to wait a bit to try again. next sesh, i send it! but get stuck on a purple V2 on the overhang. still am stuck on it, and kept pushing that and a black V3 until i was too pumped to try anything else. generally feeling dissatisfied, and now nervous because I heard back about a climbing assessment! i’m going to be assessed after school in 5 days or so, and it’s pretty discouraging to be stuck on a grade you thought you could flash. i know logic says that obviously grades differ and that it takes much longer to “master” a grade, but that doesn’t stop the stoke smush that getting stuck causes. alliteration!! okay so then a few days later, i’m sore and i end up in Murfreesboro for a conference, so we (me, dal, lil) swing by climb murf. but oh my GOD did i not realize the difference between wearing my climbing shoes vs rentals. because it is DRASTIC. they were so smooth that i couldn’t use any footholds, and they were loose and thin no matter how much i adjust. moreover, i was super sore and my calluses took a hit from that day’s climbing, possibly because of having to overrely on hands bc feet sucked? not sure. i had fun messing around on a V3 that was just 4 big volumes and a slopey finish hold. looked like this:
couldn’t finish it after getting my left foot on the mid left volume, couldn’t center split enough to match right foot with right hand. after that, i went over to dallas’s V3 she had been stuck on, I think she wasn’t using one of the holds or maybe the right angles/pressure? i figured I’d give it a try, and I FLASHED IT??? was super stoked and more confused abt how tf that happened? it didn’t have any tiny footholds, so that didn’t bring a barrier bc of shoes. swag! then humbled again by not sending a two on the arete next to it. c’est la vie! i’m now iced in rather than snowed in, and scarfing protein shakes to recover my body, where every bit of it is sore. ALL of it, arms, SHOULDERS, abs, legs, inner legs, glutes, and again SHOULDERS! excited to train more and do this assessment!!!
