The Beatles, circa August 5, 1969, celebrate the arrival of George’s Moog Synthesizer to Abbey Road EMI Studios Room 43 during the Abbey Road album sessions. George Harrison had some prior experience with the Moog and had Mike Vickers of Manfred Mann, also experienced with the Moog, to assist in tuning it in. The Moog was utilized that day on “Because”. Engineers Alan Parsons, Phil McDonald, Chris Thomas and Geoff Emerick, Producer George Martin, and Mal Evans also lend their expertise and varying levels of amazement to the moment. Quarter Notes: Blurbs & Briefs from Sound Bites

BLIND WILLIE MCTELL B/W BLIND WILLIE MCTELL: Bob Dylan on Aug. 20 will release a seven-inch vinyl single featuring two previously unreleased versions of “Blind Willie McTell.” Recorded in 1983 during sessions for Infidels, takes 1 and 5 find Dylan playing in a band alongside Mark Knopfler, Mick Taylor, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare.

STEEL WHEELS KEEP ROLLING WITH NEW BASSIST: Derek Kratzer has been named as Brian Dickel’s replacement on bass in the Steel Wheels.

NO REST (AREA) FOR SPRINGSTEEN: Given his penchant for marathon concerts, it should come as no surprise Bruce Springsteen “respectfully declined to have a service area named after him” on the Garden State Parkway.

While travelers can’t yet grab a burger at the Springsteen rest area, stations named for Whitney Houston, Jon Bon Jovi and Frank Sinatra are in the works, Entertainment Weekly reports.

TOO MANY PEOPLE GOING UNPROTECTED: All the cool kids - even Paul McCartney - are getting the COVID-19 jab.

“Be cool. Get vax’d,” McCartney posted on social media with a photo of his own shot in the arm.

There's a documentary on BBC iPlayer called Tangled Up with Dylan: The Ballad of AJ Weberman. For those unaware of Weberman, he's a self-proclaimed 'Dylanologist' who went through Bob Dylan's bins in the late '60s/early '70s in an attempt to understand him better and therefore be able to decode his songs; he called this activity 'Garbology'.

He thought that Dylan had sold out his protest music roots and so formed the Dylan Liberation Front to free Dylan from... himself? Anyway, after Dylan atoned (in his eyes) by doing the Concert for Bangladesh, Weberman formed the Rock Liberation Front, which was the same kind of thing but covering more artists.

Their first target was Paul McCartney, who they thought was "a good example of the capitalist, non-involved egotistical rock star". So they held a mock funeral for him outside his father-in-law's home.

Transcript (spelling mistakes are not mine!):

The Dylan Liberation Front, whose demonstration-birthday party for Bob Dylan was an important factor in his singing his old songs at a benefit for the East Pakistanis held at Madison Square Garden has decieded to temporarily switch targets…our next victum is PAUL McCARTNEY.

Although the rumor that ‘Paul is dead’ started when he was still with The Beatles, it only became obvious that this was true after Paul came out with his last 2 solo L.P.s – McCartney & Ram – since they are both apparantly written by someone whose brain just aint functioning…

McCartney’s lyrics lack the slightest social commitment and he’s quickly becoming the Sinatra of the 70’s. He lives like an aristocrat on a huge estate in England, never gives any money to any progressive organizations and hasn’t done a benefit in years. So that’s why the Rock Liberation Front (an offshoot of the D.L.F.) is going to hold a FUNERAL in front of McCartney’s New York City residence at: SEVENTY NINTH STREET AND PARK AVE (895 Park) on THURSDAY, AUGUST 26, 1971 at ONE P.M. sharp to COMBAT McCARTNEYISM.

They’ll be samples of McCartney’s garbage, a special funeral ceremony, funeral dirges by Elecktra recording artists David Peel and the Lower East Side and many other surreal spontaneous happenings… (at the Dylan birthday party Yippie Abbie Hoffman, talk-jockey Alex Bennett & Screw Editor Al Goldstien all showed-up). After we get through with Paulie they’ll be on a march down to Rolling Stone Magazine (78356th St) where we’ll present them with documented evidence of their piggery!!!!

So truck on down to McCartney’s pad and join the 500 or so people!

#w o w #can people be normal for one single second #john became involved in the rock liberation front stuff too #after they occupied allen klein's offices #paul mccartney#bob dylan
