Twenty - Four
The car ride took about forty minutes. That was enough to tell Dan everything. From the game to the branding. And how we hid in the attic. And that we saw Phil get help from Jake's pursuers. I told him everything. "So Alan should know where they're holding Jake?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. "Yes, I assume so. Otherwise he knows enough so we can find him based on that information." I answered. "And I'm going to demand that he ensure that Phil is arrested. With or without evidence. But him walking around free is no longer a choice.". "How did you have that in mind? I mean he's the police chief of Duskwood." he parked the car in front of the hospital and we got out. "Right, a dirty one. But there are things nobody knows about me Dan." I give him a wink and walked towards the entrance.
There was no queue at the reception, so we could go straight through. The woman behind the counter looked at "How can I help you?". "My father was brought here less than an hour ago after a car accident. His name is Alan Bloomgate. I would like to know where he is now" I feigned a concerned look. "One minute I'm going to look for you" she turned to her screen. "Here I see it, but I can't let everyone through.". "Now are you saying that I can't go to my father?!" I raised my voice a little "Sorry ma'am, what is your name so I can see if you are on the visitors list". "Bloomgate! just like my father. Emily Bloomgate And this man here..." I pointed to Dan "Is my fiancée, Sabastian Anderson. You can check that out right away too". She looked at her screen again "You two can walk through, room 369." she said a little agitated. I turned and walked towards what I thought were the elevators."Do I have to wonder why you know the names of Alan's daughter and fiancé?" he looked puzzled. "No wait, another question first. How do you know my cousin is engaged to her." I laughed "As a famous person once told me, I'm not putting all my cards on the table for you". Dan rolled his eyes "Do I have to ask who that was?". "Nope" I said while walking into one of the elevators.
I knocked on Alan's room door. "Come in" we heard coming from the room. I pushed open the door and walked in with Dan following me. "Close the door" I said to Dan. Alan lay in bed, half upright with a large bandage on his head and his arm in a sling. When he saw me, I saw slight panic in his eyes."H..How do you get in here?" stuttering, he wanted to sit up straighter. "You're not the only one doing research" I grinned at him."Tell me Alan, how are you? A lot of pain?"."It's okay" he replied a bit confused, looking at his sling. "Perfect, than you can tell me where they're holding Jake!" I took a step closer. "How am I supposed to know? And if I did, I won't tell you." he tried to sound intimidating. But I quickly got rid of that when I put my hand on his collarbone, the one where his arm is in a sling and started squeezing gently. "Well Alan, maybe you should think again."I squeezed a little harder, making him wince. "Really? You're going to act like the men who have Jake?" he tried.
"I call it fighting fire with fire" I bent down so only he could hear me, and as my grip only got tighter "You're going to tell me where they're holding Jake. Cause I won't just do permanent damage to your collarbone. If you want to see the next day, you will answer me!" I hiss in his ear. "Okay, okay I'll answer." he sighed in defeat. He took out his phone and showed us a message with the address. Dan took a picture of it. "Thank you, Alan, was that so difficult?" I shrugged my shoulders "Oh there's one more thing. When we leave the room, you're going make sure Phil is locked up before tomorrow. I don't care how, as long as you do it.". All he did was nod in agreement. "Great! then we understand each other. And don't fuck with me." Dan just looked at me as we walked out of the room. That was no different in the elevator. "Jeez Dan, tell me what's wrong?". "Remind me to never piss you off." he laughs.
