2009 wasted no time making rave music. I'm tempted to just copy and paste my 2010 and 2011 description. Except, with more cases of, "oh yes, i know that song, I didn't know what it was called," because all the party music at TKE, SiGEP or wherever just blended together. Rap is fully on life support. Weird losers started unknowingly recycling Donny osmond jokes about that Beiber kid, who, honestly was not that bad. It’s like Twilight, they’re not that bad, the fans are girlish and vapid, but the hatedom both attracted was cringe and spergy as fuck. If the go word of the early to mid 2010s is gentrification, it definitely applies to more than just neighborhoods in this era. Everything from Brooklyn, to music, geek culture, the internet, and TV gentrified, so to speak, to an edgeless, mushy, overly safe product made for upper middle class sensibilities. 2007 is not only the last year of the 00s, it felt like the last days of the old neighborhood, before the rent doubled and whole foods and Starbucks took over. 00s culture still lives on as a lower class phenomenon for people now in their 30s.

We have arrived at the point where Sosa's men killed Tony. Unlike 2016 or 1974, there is nothing shocking about this being the worst year ever, no sudden drops in quality. Early to mid 2007 is a continuation of late 2006. Later in the year the dumb kids stopped buying ringtones, and made videos of themselves or, rather yet, cartoon characters dancing to some even dumber kid's visionary brakthrough smash hit. If crank that weren't split between here and 2008, and if streaming and stolen mp3s got counted for the charts, it would have finished top 3, or even won this year, it was that big. This was the sign to all the record executives that there was no more easy money through selling ringtones or throwaway albums. They had to burn down 2000s culture for the insurance money, already a hollow wooden shell at this point, and disappear to the Caribbean.

It's no surprise that 2010s pop stars started to break through and Kanye dropped Graduation at the end of this year, the culture they would have never fit into just got murdered. What happened to all the 2006 idiots when Soulja Boy and the second pop wave took over? Who cares? Not like any of it was any good.

Late 2007 was also where tech giants took full power over the internet, and the broken directionless mess that was Myspace fell off for good. This and the iPhone led to the second eternal september.

So now, internet and internet culture doesn't belong to people who can use a computer, and understand at least on a basic level how the internet works. Now it belongs to everyone, for better, and much more often, for worse. In a way, Myspace is the holding point of all late 00s tackiness, a sort of ghetto neighborhood demolished to create a gentrified one on top of in the internet city. The entire aesthetic from all the ringtone rap and emo that came from this era, on a site that was unrestrained, barely functional, and full of 00s tackiness and actual bullying. The rap money is gone, that means there's no mansions, big cars, drugs, liquor, jewelry, and strippers for rappers to buy. When rap comes back: pick two. And rappers are smart enough where they don't say house anymore, that economy goes away after this year.

If you read my works, you will notice they are largely set in 2007. After i moved it away from the early 2010s, to avoid accusations of basing it on my time in college, and away from a time when social media's hold on students was nearly complete. If you are wondering why the part of The main character's life where he leaves the girls and grown woman pregnant with his daughters to marry his psychotic, villainous stalker, and justify to himself that he isn't being coerced has a soundtrack which sounds very...1990, this project is why. I needed a stand in era of music for a year I knew was bad, and have confirmed was the worst ever. I chose the new jack swing and power ballad heavy era of the extended late 80s, from 1989 to 1990 when i started writing. I stand by that choice. Or, in meme terms, the virgin this is why I'm hot vs the chad u can't touch this. Also did you notice nothing on the 1990 chart is explicit on spotify? The year where hip hop or hip hop influenced things went mainstream, not a single swear.

2004 is a year we as a culture seem to revere. Much like the early 2010s, this era is full of club dance music, and rap like in the late 2010s. Unlike the two, early 2010 had music made for a rave or high school dance, 2004 has music for a velvet rope bar, or a strip club. And the rap here is full of energy and volume, and each city and most rappers had distinct flows, slang, and got really hype about their record label, the complete opposite of mid to late 2010s rap.

Remember record labels?  Those things that, true, siphoned off money from the artist, but also pushed their clients to wealth and fame, and kept most untalented people out of music... most.  Also RB, that used to exist, as something distinct from rap. And rock with guitars charted, lot of it wasn't good, part of why no one's really seen rock as a cool genre, or anything more than dad music, since the actual 80s.

Come to think about it, the only things people seem to remember about this year is Yeah, hey ya, mean girls, the anchorman, and... entourage or curb your enthusiasm, or whatever was on tv. Which means this era is quite dead, society only remembers the good parts, just like with the 90s, 80s, 70s, ect.  Let's explore it.

Back then there was no social media. If someone wanted to talk to a stranger online, it was AIM chatting, or join a forum, often at the cost of 10 actual us dollars. To a guy, lowtax, who's currently bankrupt, and was unable to even keep up with a  bare bones forum that had no user accounts, archives, or ability to post more than text and one image, that only formed because the former banned discussions of anime.

There was no streaming. Itunes and the iPod for all platforms opened the world to legalized mp3 buying. We bought albums, singles, and ringtones online, and it all counted to the charts. Yes, ringtones, remember when people bought those, it counted as buying a single. More on that later. This year is driven by huge, huge albums from acts like Usher, Green Day, Outkast, Kelly Clarkson, and a debut from some rapper with a giant teddy bear on the cover called The College Dropout. This In a year where the by now completely irrelevant boomer circle jerk the grammys gave the album award to ray charles greatest hits. Do not ever ask me to cover celebrity culture awards shows, other than the razzies like this. I refuse. That shit stopped mattering after like 1998.

The music, movies, and even commercials here are very direct, and use sexuality to the max. Much like how the 90s used epic announcer voices, and the 2010s used vague virtue signaling in ads, the mid 00s used half naked pop stars to sell, pizza bites, or whatever.

That's just the embodiment of 00s culture. It's like what campy action movies and cartoons meant to sell toys were to the 80s and 90s, or what ... memes and being self conscious I guess, are to the 2010s. The standard bearer for a culture, the second 80s, a decade made of kids who grew up wanting to be Scarface, but not, you know, do crimes or at least go to jail. At this point, this and 2003 are like the point where Tony gets caught by the narcos for bringing duffel bags of money into his counting room. Tony Montana will serve as a metaphor for this mid 00s culture and economy until the “movie” ends and it dies.

It's like that virgin vs chad meme, where the guy on the left is self conscious, innefectual, and unpopular. And the guy on the right is is ridiculous, forward, and sexually successful. Thats what the open and sexualized 00s are compared to the snowflake 2010s.

    R. Kelly Memes Trend On Twitter Following Kanye West's Grammy Urination

In the midst of his barrage of tweets exposing Universal and Sony of locking him into a "slave" contract for the rest of his life, Kanye West said that he believes White media outlets intentionally tore down people like Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson, and surprisingly enough, R. Kelly.

Already, the mention of R. Kelly was enough to get people talking. Then, Kanye posted a video of himself urinating on a GRAMMY Award, which accelerated the trend and got Kelly's name posted as one of the primary Trending Topics on Twitter.

Since then, memes and jokes have been flying, hitting a peak prior to Kanye's temporary ban from the micro-blogging site.

Some people are sharing Soulja Boy's infamous "He copied my whole fucking flow!!!" moment, others are simply commenting on the situation as a whole, touching on West's claim that the media destroyed the disgraced singer's career.

Even R. Kelly's lawyer Douglas Anton reached out, requesting copies of Kanye's contracts so he could look them over.

However, the loudest response has been in the comments to Kanye's peeing video, with hundreds of people mentioning R. Kelly in the replies.

Personally, Kelly has not been doing too well as of late. Last month, he was attacked in his jail cell by an angry inmate over the protests his fans have pulled outside of the jailhouse, shutting down their access to showers and other basic necessities.

His recent attempt to be released was denied, as well.

Going off of Kanye's statement, do you think that R. Kelly was taken down by White media or was his teardown deserved?

they sleep with a stuffed animal or cuddle pillow

they were/are a writer for those “dear abbey” style columns

for a while, they were training for the Olympics

their name is a pop culture reference (“my parents named me luke bc of star wars”, “my parents named me kelly bc of saved by the bell”)

they have a Signature Dish they make

    they paint murals

they are a mysterious graffiti artist

theyve basically memorized their favorite web series

theyre working on a novel thats about to be published

they cheat at board games every time they play them

they don’t have a middle name (bonus: every time someone asks what their middle name is, they lie instead of explaining they don’t have one)

they run a popular shitposting account on some social media platform

they had a childhood crush on (insert horror villain here, or obscure cartoon reference here, or something along those lines)

they used to think it was illegal to lie to their parents because of something an adult said to them once

they write a “dear abby” style column

    they once performed (with their marching band, cheer squad, dance company, choir, etc;) at a place like disney, six flags, mgm grand resort, etc;

    they have perfect pitch

they can mimic accents really well, usually after just hearing the accent for a few moments

alternatively: they’re terrible at accents, and accidentally slip into them when they’re talking to people who have those accents

they know multiple non-human languages (you know what i mean - like elven and stuff)

they are a huge asmr person - like they love asmr WAY too much

they’ve been banned from a theme park

they were once kicked out of an official government building

they’re a regular at a local bar/cafe/etc; but no one there knows their real name

they were a one-hit wonder back in the day

    they keep a diary

in fact, they still have their childhood diaries

if they don’t have a to-do list, they won’t have any structure

they finger paint/collage/sketch in their spare time

they have a word that they, for some reason, cannot pronounce to save their life

they used to live nextdoor to the town fairgrounds

they keep a record of every date they’ve ever been on
