What started with me remembering one of the best lines I’ve ever used to describe Damien, I went on a bit of a mental tangent about the pair and why they’re slow to love. Under a read-more because, you know, it’s me rambling. But more importantly there’s brief mention about a a bad relationship (for Damien) and heavy mention of controlling parents (for Dante).
(Also before I forget, I’m once again tweaking Dante to be a closeted bi. Damien is openly bi.)
Disclaimer: I, personally, know feck-all about romantic stuff bar cheesy stuff I have written.
Note: This is not a “how to score a ship” guide. That is still based on IC chemistry from interacting with one another. This is just headcanon building.
Damien Truman (modern!Damien)
So, what is this famous line I mentioned?
“Damien will put himself last when it comes to relationships unless love hits him in the face with a trout.” (Honestly, it’s one of the best things I’ve written and I probably won’t ever top it.)
Anyway, what’s the point of this line? It’s a common theme that Damien here has a bad habit of putting himself last. He promised he’d give his all to being the mayor, and he takes it to quite an extreme. So when it comes to romantic relationships, he’s not actively seeking a partner. In his eyes, he wants to wait until he’s able to fully commit himself, even if it’s after he finishes his term. It’s a responsibility to have a relationship. Not only that, he’s the Mayor. The other person will be in the eyes of the local media from the get-go. That’s an unfair position to put anyone in. Not only that, the other option to keep their relationship secret until both are comfortable is entirely selfish of Damien, and he knows it.
Truthfully, he’s a little scared. Before he ran for Mayor, while he was rising in social circles in society through political work, he was in a relationship that lasted six months or so. He was happy, it was lovely, and he was used as a stepping stone by his partner for them to reach other people and pursue someone richer. It hurt Damien a lot, making him wary about jumping head-first into a romance. He wants to wait until he knows it’s a relationship that can be long-term, and even have a plan of a family in the future.
The only exception, to get back on point, is if love hits him in the face with a trout and he falls fast and hard for someone. It would be a situation where Damien would see someone and realise that he might not be wise to wait. He becomes so sure of it that he’s willing to take that risk, even if it’s a slow-paced relationship. And he’d do it for them.
But by default, he’d be happy with a relationship that was slow to start, almost like a friends-to-lovers scenario. Trust is important to him. He doesn’t want to be hurt again.
(but he’s also a cheesy, sappy romantic who would absolutely be embarrassed and delighted at a sudden delivery of a bouquet of a flowers from a mysterious sender that has a heart for a signature instead of a name but he totally knows who it’s from, for instance)
Damien Brooks (W.KM!Era Damien / Dante - shaddap I never edited icons for this era to differentiate, so I’ll call him ‘Dante’ instead)
(Strong focus on controlling parents throughout!)
In brief, Dante can’t.
His entire life to this point has been dictated by his parents. Just like they tried to with Celine, they would attempt to force him into a marriage like theirs - one that Dante views more like a ‘business deal’. He has been left alone because (for the moment) it’s respectable of him to want to focus on his career. If even a whisper of Dante wanting a relationship reached his parents, he’d be doomed.
If anyone at social functions asks about his personal life and any relationships, Dante shakes his head and says that he’s too busy at present to consider a commitment of that kind... And it hurts to lie.
He’s not too busy. He could juggle it just fine. In fact, he would love to be a doting husband and a caring father. He yearns for a simple family life consisting of parents that love their children for who they are because he knows he can be a better parent than his own parents. This is something he wants to choose for himself, and he’ll fight tooth and nail for that right... Even if it means keeping his heart under lock and key.
(He has reassurance that if he’s still single by the time his term as mayor ends, friends from another realm will come back, take him out clubbing, and be his wingmen. He looks forward to that!)
If he does decide to pursue a relationship, it’s in secret. He hates having to lie and pretend, but he has to. His partner might be perfect for him, but the family would never approve of anyone, and would do what they could to intimidate the partner, guilt Dante out of it, or block it somehow. Whoever he dates would be told all this upfront, and he wouldn’t blame them for backing away from it. But if they agree, they are someone Dante would literally trust with his life. He drops his guard completely with them. Thus, it can’t be a fling. A stranger could talk, and word could spread. It needs to be someone he’s known for a while, someone he is truly comfortable with.
(In fact, trust is so valuable to him that he has his staff tell his family and their associates nothing about anything Dante was doing if they visit - the butler in the mayoral residence could see the hint of fear in Dante’s eyes at the request when he first moved in.)
So, you might be wondering, what about Dante in the present day?
Unfortunately, he’s not quite there yet. After everything he has been through, Dante is somewhat cynical. He keeps to himself and tries to avoid making friends and close connections. A lot of this stems from a fear that if anything good happened to him, it would disappear and he would be worse with the absence. On top of that, he doesn’t feel as though he fully deserves or is even capable of love - between being a ‘monster’, and still trying to regain a grasp on positive human emotions - without beginning to discuss the conflict of being touch-starved but touch-aversive.
7 minutes. I Am Afraid
well this got wildly away from me. this is part one, part two to follow probably tomorrow. place your bets! who will win! hmmmm it is a mystery
LOOK AT THESE TWO AND THEIR SMUG LOOKS OF SUPERIORITY
if any random reblogs show up on this page it’s cause i forgot to switch blogs for a bit today and i’m not sure if any of the reblogs actually went through shdndh
So I found out that the Girl Scout camp I went to when I was nine closed down last year.
...I’m not even sad. The whole place was such a terrible experience and the counselors were all really condescending and treated everyone like kindergarteners even if they were in their double digits.
The only thing I’m hoping for is that whoever eventually buys the property keeps it as an outdoor use; we really don’t need another strip mall in that area.
To all of you suddenly reblogging my Shen Wei meta again and crying in my tags... I see you, you are all valid, and no, I’m not in the LEAST bit sorry.

Content warning: death/suicide in a piece of media
I was reading this comic the other day. I’ve been following it for about two years now, basically since when it started. I’ve really enjoyed it. The finale came out a couple weeks ago.
In the finale, after coming to the realization that he’s done something bad, the main antagonist makes a decision to end his life. The plot is convoluted enough that I can’t explain it entirely, but the gist is that he exchanges his life (and the entire record/memory of his existence) for the protagonist to be happy.
In doing so, the final conflict is resolved. The antagonist also disappears from the memories of everyone who ever knew him. Functionally, he never existed. It’s a near-complete world reset.
Why does that upset me?
1) it creates some ambiguous plot holes of “if X never happened why does Y condition remain?”
2) plot holes aside.... I hate the idea that at a point you’re better off dead. I get that the scene is framed as a final act of love and absolution but... YIKES. You know I’m a sucker for self-sacrifice, so I’m not just ragging on a trope I don’t like.
I think that sometimes, the best thing you can do is leave someone’s life. This is basically the theory behind unfollowing your Ex on social media and not obsessing over them. They don’t want to see you, They may never want to see you again or hold a single charitable thought towards you. That’s okay. Your life goes on. If you feel like you made mistakes or hurt them, the best thing you can do is just not repeat your mistakes. Your life goes on, and so does theirs. Separately.
So my issues with redemptive suicide: there is no room for growth. Basically it argues that, at a point, you have nothing good left to offer the world and wouldn’t it be better if you disappeared? Umm so that really strikes an unhappy nerve for me personally. And in the context of the plot, I feel like it’s a completely empty and unsatisfying ending for the antagonist to not only die but to leave no record of himself anywhere. What a sad ending. You deserve to be erased. Wow. And it is particularly upsetting to me considering that yes he did some awful things but I can’t neglect the ways that his behavior were molded by the unhealthy and toxic environment around him. I’m not apologizing for his crimes or the pain he caused others. But I don’t think death and erasure prevent further pain. It doesn’t promote healing.
woah heres some fanart of vali from a friend from one of my old blogs. i love it so much still <3
whoa, it's so weather out here. 🌹
Actions have Consequences
Little bit of vent art done on stream today. Based on a bit of a harsh plot point for Volt when he confronted his creator.
Trigger warning for blood, injury, self inflicted injury and disfigurement

Ayame: finds any excuse he can to spend time with Hatori, is always sitting/standing next to him rather than Shigure, is usually touching Hatori in some way, eventually sleeps with Shigure because he looks like Hatori with the right lighting, explicitly tells Shigure that he loves Hatori
Shigure, learning Hatori has feelings for Ayame: Yeah, no, he doesn’t feel the same way about you at all.
