London Stock Exchange listed JLT Employee Benefits is relocating its entire Scottish operation to a new West Edinburgh-based headquarters this autumn.

The global organisation, which has around 200 staff in Edinburgh and is one of the world’s largest providers of pensions and employee benefits, will move to Lochside Avenue in the Gyle’s business district in October. 

Following JLT’s partnership with Aegon in November last year, which saw it transfer over 100 staff from Aegon Trustee Solutions, and its subsequent £17m acquisition of Alexander Forbes Consultants & Actuaries in December, the company has outgrown its current premises.

“This is an exciting step forward, cementing our place as one of the largest employee benefit providers in Scotland,” said Malcolm Paul, chairman at JLT.

“From our new Scottish headquarters we will be better able to deliver the full range of services to pension scheme trustees, employers and scheme members.”

Following a successful year’s trading, Scottish footwear company Schuh has announced plans to open a store in the West of Edinburgh.

The company, which was founded in Edinburgh in 1981 and acquired by US retail giant Genesco in June 2011, recorded sales of £233m for the 12 months to the end of January 2013 – an increase of 18% on a like for like basis.

Having opened 16 new stores over the course of the year, Schuh has now announced the creation of eight outlets in the coming months – one of which will be in the Gyle Shopping Centre.  

This new opening will take the company’s total number of Scottish shops to 12.

“Performance in the second year of Genesco ownership has flourished, and we have significantly expanded our store estate,” said Schuh finance director, Mark Crutchley.

Located at South Gyle Broadway, the Gyle Shopping Centre is just minutes from the City Bypass, the M8 and the M9, and offers 2,500 free parking spaces for shoppers.

“To be able to welcome a well-known and successful brand such as Schuh, is a real boost to the Gyle Shopping Centre.  Shoppers visiting the West of the City already have a variety of choice, but the announcement of this new store opening can only help to enhance visitors’ experience of the Centre.”

‘Connect West Edinburgh’ is a joint initiative between the City of Edinburgh Council and property agents, which promotes available office space in ten business parks across the West of the city, and promotes news about the area.
