“Alien Throne” by Marcin Zajac
Get out the tissues, because you will cry sad tears, happy tears, excited tears, and once those emotions kick in, even silly things will make you cry (like wing etiquette!). This book was packed with emotions, as any series that has gone on this long would be, and it comes to an end. But it also has a second chance at love for a character when we knew all about his first love. This doesn’t distract from that in any way at all, it actually incorporates and builds on it. Padraig is the new Pop pop, in case there was ever any doubt, in so many ways, and in such amazing fashions. The love story that grows between Emmy and Padraig was years in the making, and we get to see the moments that made it happen. We get to be with them as they move from friends to lovers. We get to see how their pasts influence their present and how well everything will mesh. We get to see the whole family come together, and moments of our original Wild Irish siblings gathered, even though Killian and Sean simply showed up for the donuts! We get to see all of the second generation with their loves and lives they are living, working hard on making sure there will Collins for generations to come. We get to see Padraig have two great loves, and fulfil the wishes, dreams, and moments they both so dearly wanted for him. We close with Pop pop, doing what he does best, loving his family the way he knows best <3
“He tasted like midnight and wind, and shades of rich brown and light blue. Colors that made her feel safe and guarded.” — Stephanie Garber, Caraval

Batwoman‘s second season had a lot of ground to cover following the departure of Ruby Rose as Kate Kane post-Season 1. Let’s recap! Season 2 introduced Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) as the new titular hero with Ryan finding the Batsuit among the wreckage of Kate Kane’s crashed plane. From there, she decides to use the suit to get justice for her adoptive mother’s death. Mary and Luke let Ryan keep the suit warm and keep the city safe while they wait for Kate to return, eventually growing into a tight team of their own.
Season 2 had to ask the question: what happened to Kate Kane? And devoted much of its top half exploring the answer...

the characters of escape from the bloodkeep get me so much every time like we have:
Arwen if Arwen got sick of being married to Aragorn (who’s an annoying ranger himbo) and became a weird emo prophet for the dark side
Shelob if Shelob was an overworked mother of ten thousand who just wanted to try and go steady with someone again but she keeps accidentally eating them
the Witch King if the Witch King was pining after Sauron and also unhealthily dependent on his praise and his relationship to Sauron
Faramir if Faramir was a pirate who decided he wanted to usurp Boromir because Boromir didn’t find him when he got lost once and he’s also got the aesthetic of a kind of shitty rapper
Maggie, the pregnant girlfriend of Sauron who just wants to have a good time and a good life for her baby
Sokhbarr, the guy in charge of horses (well, wargs) for literally everyone at the Bloodkeep who just wants to see the local biomes flourish and protect endangered species
and then they’re all actually really good friends (with a bit of work) trying to navigate the post-death-of-Sauron chaos with the help of the ten thousand spiders, a creature that gets impregnated by literal nightmares, a skull that lets Arwen talk to Maggie’s dad who Arwen calls Bone Daddy, more pirates, and eventually an all-powerful baby. Also their greatest foe is Sam if Sam was basically unkillable, disgustingly optimistic, and literally strong enough to nearly kill the Witch King with a frying pan
