Good Enough
I tried so hard
For years
To show you that I’m good enough.
I knew my worth,
I loved myself.
I was motivated by my own achievements.
As time passed
And you drilled into me
That fact that I am not good enough,
No matter the grades
No matter the work
No matter my effort.
It’s seeped into my ears and eyes;
It’s stuck.
Now I can’t see myself as good enough.
Every point I miss
Every minus after an ‘a’
With the lack of a plus.
Every criticism, no matter how small
Chips away
At whatever fiber of self worth I had left.
Now my achievements I can’t see.
I am no longer motivated.
Instead
My failures weigh me down.
My motivation gone,
Crushed by your insistence on perfection.
Now I will finish writing this
Before my realization
For the hilariousness of my situation
Seeps away
Constraining me to my altered vision .
To the tiring sting
Of never being good enough

Didn’t get much work done today, since I’m trying to enjoy my last weekend before classes start. To push my Spanish learning a bit farther, though, I decided to start reading a book that I’m pretty familiar with (in English, at least) in Spanish. I decided to go with Harry Potter even if I personally despise the author. I’m excited to see how reading it will go, and how much easier it will be to read by the end of the book compared to the beginning!
