Like writers who are able to put their thoughts into good words and are made best of their own kind because of personal experiences, artists are undoubtedly fueled by their mobility in life also.
Before Covid-19, when gatherings, classes and most occasions were physical, we had all the means to see more from this world. The warm sunset from the rooftop of a 2-floor building, smiles of strangers we haven’t even exchanged “hellos” with, laughter of the one you loved the most, trees when they swing by the gentle humid of a normal Thursday, and street vendors when they offer you the best array of food ready to melt in your tongue.
Apparently, a glimpse around is enough to come up with a subject to creatively reimagine on a new blank canvas. Inspiration for art back then was not restricted to quarantine, home isolation, medical precautions, fear for safety, repetitive ECQs and such. But now, things have grown more complicated than they seem to be.
We have already passed through the anniversary of the pandemic here in the Philippines, and we never pursued lengths to celebrate the ordeal that brought so much trouble into our lives. My introverted self was not even able to spare itself from the burnout caused by spending too much time here at home, and almost none outside.
The people and environment I get drawn to daily repetitively revolved around my family and the insides of our house. And although they are the love of my life and my bedroom is where I feel safe the most, nothing beats the feeling of being able to explore farther than deemed possible. Meeting new people, of all races; fulfilling itineraries of provinces I’ve never heard of before and learning stories of all sorts from diverse cultures. I loved gathering experiences and ampoules of knowledge, both of which I consider the bare bones of creativity.
The Phoenix Griffen
Painted a miniature for the first time in my life and I am so happy the way he turned out. I just love the colors on him. All painted with acrylic and his little platform was dusted with silver pigment.
Finishing touches to my piece of Lil Nas X as the Birth of Venus 💁🏻♂️
Did you know that hippos are not related to elephants? But they are related to giraffes, moose, camels, cows, sheep – something to do with 4-chambered stomachs. What a wonderful world we live in! This is my first acrylic painting in a long time! It’s going to take me a while to get used to it. I’m still trying to decide which brushes to use, Hahnemühle sent me five different kinds of acrylic…
