Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,Taught my benighted soul to understandThat there’s a God, that there’s a Saviour too:Once I redemption neither sought nor knew. Some view our sable race with scornful eye,“Their colour is a diabolic die.”Remember, Christians, Negros, black as Cain,May be refin’d, and join th’ angelic train.

Soon as the sun forsook the eastern mainThe pealing thunder shook the heav’nly plain;Majestic grandeur! From the zephyr’s wing,Exhales the incense of the blooming spring.Soft purl the streams, the birds renew their notes,And through the air their mingled music floats.Through all the heav’ns what beauteous dies are spread! But the west glories in the deepest red:So may our breasts with ev’ry virtue…

Streptocarpus sect. Saintpaulia (African violet)
I always know it’s autumn when I start turning to indoor plants for content. Today, I once again channel my inner Georgia O’Keeffe by getting ‘up close and personal’ with this African violet. Although not closely related to true violets they really are from Africa. There are ten species of African violets and they’re all native to Tanzania and south-eastern Kenya.
African violets are the perfect bachelor plant because they thrive on neglect. They’re a rain forest plant and In their native environment they grow in little pockets of soil on rocky hillsides. They have special hairs on their leaves that suck moisture from the air and some people water them by spraying the leaves with a spritzer. They don’t mind drying out a bit but most people kill them with over-watering. African violets like 80% humidity, so if you put them in a steamy, bathroom window they’ll think they’re back in the rain forest and they’ll thank you with endless blooms.

From Corey Washington, a scholar on Jimi Hendrix’s black legacy:
"Jimi was always one who sided with the oppressed, not the oppressors. So I'm thinking he would have probably called out both sides [politically, with Republicans and Democrats]. But as far as a movement like Black Lives Matter, that's a no-brainer, I mean, Jimi Hendrix was a black man, I'm pretty sure he believed his life mattered. And he would, from the concerts that he did, dedicate songs to the Black Panthers. So that showed he had no fear as far as supporting the oppressed, to the point where he actually has a heavily redacted FBI file. [The FBI] used to keep tabs on him everywhere he went... I mean, there's no question about it, he was on a list of people to be rounded up, in case of an event like 9/11 or something like that. So he was definitely a controversial figure, among those at the top, those people who look to oppress people and so forth..."

Repeat after me: Teach-ability determines reach-ability. We all know that reaching children's minds is much easier than an adult because they are open to new information; thus, teachable! As adults, we have our assumptions that we know what we know, and that’s all that counts! Nah! That’s why a lot of us can’t move forward! We are the “Walking Dead!” Think about that? If you can’t teach someone, particularly your people, how to change for the better, then what will happen in the long run? Learn, unlearn, and relearn! GET ON CODE.
