June 15 2021: Great representation
Our beautiful cast of the Heartstopper show! (I've sort of combined my personal designs for the characters with the actors' actual looks haha)
In all honesty, this is the first time in a WHILE that I believe in an adaptation of a book/comic???? I am usually sort of skeptical and I immediately feel like any adaptation will be worse than the original, because that has happened a lot with the stuff I liked. But Heartstopper? I love that Alice is actually on set pretty much always, and THE ACTORS ARE THE CORRECT AGE AND THEY LOOK SO GREAT??! I'm sorry but Joe with the peace sign? he was born to be Charlie. I can't wait for the show to air <3
currently almost four in the morning and i’ve finished reading all of the current volumes and all i have to say is that heartstopper was the sweetest / softest / purest thing i’ve ever read in so long !!!
just started reading nick and charlie... am i going to cry? is it sad? is it cute like heartstopper? we'll see.
alice creating aled like: G E N D E R
[image id; a piece of art spilt into three vertical sections. the first and most left(?) section is a close up of aled last’s original hair. it is bright and golden and untouched. the second section is of aled’s hair when frances finds him at uni. this hair is greyer and greener and looks like its been dyed many times. it appears to be very unhealthy. there are a few pale streaks of pink- a reference to how aled dyed his hair. the third section is aled’s hair but dyed a rosey pink now. it has a bit of purple/lilac near the tips. a slight smidge of aled’s blonde hair is visible near the top of the section. the borders in between each section are dark navy blue. end id.]

“Heartstopper vol. 4” by Alice Oseman
Y’all! Y’ALL! I know I keep saying this, but this graphic novel was one of my most anticipated reads for this year and when I finally got my hands on it, I finished it in an hour. That’s the sad reality of graphic novels, unfortunately. If you have been living under a rock, I’ll recap what the Heartstopper series is all about! “Heartstopper” follows two British teenagers in high school, from the…

hearstopper - vol. 4 - review
"love can't cure a mental illness. there are lots of ways to help him, you can just be there. to listen. to talk. to cheer him up if he's having a bad day. and on the bad days you can ask what you could do to make things easier. stand by his side, even when things are hard. but also knowing that sometimes people need more support than just one person can give. that's love darling."
in the fourth installment in this series, charlie and nick are separated for about three weeks, as nick is on holiday in menorca with his family. charlie's mental health is getting progressively worse during this time and at the beginning of the year, he is admitted into hospital to work on his issues. and nick is learning how he can be a supportive boyfriend.
this was definitely the most difficult one to read out of the four that are out now, because there are definitely a few sensitive topics that are addressed, such as mental health, eating disorders, and nick's brother being an absolute dickhead about nick being bisexual. i think that the way oseman handled these topics was really good. i haven't dealt with any of the issues that the characters deal with in this, so i can't speak on the representation of them, but i do think they were handled well.
i'm so sad there is only one installment of this left after this, because i love these two boys so freaking much! the way they care about each other, the way their friends have accepted them, it warms my heart. i think this series could me a lot to a lot of people, because aside from the gay and bisexual main characters, there is also lesbian and trans representation in this series, which i really liked.
i can't wait to see what's going to happen in the last installment and how oseman is going to wrap up this series.
My last read: Heartstopper Vol.4 by Alice Oseman
What I expected: More Nick and Charlie and will make me fall even more in love with them, but also break my heart a bit.
What I got: Exactly that and so much more! I simply love this story and the characters and the message in it. It's heartbreaking, but at the same time so hopeful and I will never get tired of rereading this series.
What was your last read?
