[ID: two digital drawings switching the roles between Steven and Lars, and Edward and Alphonse.
In the first picture, Lars wears the same clothes as Ed and his right arm is made of a bright pink light, that forms a sharp weapon out of his hand. His red coat flies dramatically. Behind him, Steven is a tall, humanoid cactus creature that wears a breechcloth. Steven is putting his hands on his hips smirking at the viewer, while Lars frowns seriously with his left hand inside his pocket. The background reveals them inside the underground, a dark tunnel behind them.
In the second picture, Ed is seen from his back, wearing Lars’ space captain outfit. He puts his left arm on his hip and he makes a peace sign with his right hand. Al is relatively younger and shorter than Ed, and he wears Steven’s clothes, as well as the pink shield overlaying his right arm. Ed smirks at the viewer while Al smiles at him. In the black background, big yellow star similar to the one in Steven’s shirt fills it along with tiny, white stars. /End ID]

Accidentally deleted the ask but here's an Al with cats
It's what he deserves
There’s so much going on in this photo jesus okay. Uh. Two kids. Littler one is probably female, since Gender Stereotyping Babies is a thing. I’d bet a lot of money the girl is named Nina. Garfiel hovering in the background. Godmother Paninya reporting for duty. Holy SHIT did May grow up, and she looks awesome!
Nice to see that Ed losing his alchemy hasn’t made either of you any less nerdy about the Math Juice
She’s getting so big!!!!
I’M SO HAPPY FOR THESE KIDS
IT’S! 👏 WHAT! 👏 THEY! 👏 DESERVE! 👏
FINALLY, WE GOT SOME MEAT ON THAT BOY’S BONES
Been craving some bird au so I made it myself! Ed is a red-winged blackbird, a very striking (although aggressive) Icterid I often see around railroad tracks. Al is a yellow-shouldered blackbird, a close relative that lacks the red wing patch.
Now let’s go put some meat on those bones, kiddo.
Okay I think I have a big crush on Miles
Went through an inspirational quote generator, and, like,
This is literally Alphonse!
✵ — THE VERGE WELCOMES: ALPHONSE ELRIC
— ( character section. )
name: Alphonse Elric series: Fullmetal Alchemist age: 15 pronouns: They/He
canon point: Chapter 102 (before waking up) triggers: Parental Death, Plagues/Disease, Parental Abandonment, Child Soldiers, Violence involving Children, Limb Amputation, Body Horror, Food and Eating mention (in inventory), Human Experimentation, Mass Murder, Short Jokes, War, Genocide
(Some of these don’t appear in the app but are from the source material)
Despite his intimidating appearance, Alphonse is notably gentle and kind to those around him. They make an active effort to be soft, maybe even to people who might not deserve it. They’re highly tolerant to unfavorable situations and are willing to cooperate with anyone when given the right circumstances. Al is an expert at waiting and biding his time is easy. Like anyone, he can get angry and explosive, but it happens a bit slower and less frequently. Given how much time he spends with his sibling, Al usually doesn’t get the chance to blow up before they do and usually has to take the role of reeling them back in.
Al can come across as a stickler for rules with his courteous and deceptively passive attitude, but that’s far from the truth. They’re all too keen on sneaking off to do what they want and have no problems stooping to trickery to outsmart the people around them. It’s not that they revel in that sort of thing, but sometimes they just don’t agree with orders or rules trying to keep them from doing what they feel needs to be done. Their bullheadedness often results in Al thinking it’s best to take matters into their own hands. Inaction isn’t an option, even if it puts him in great danger.
Alphonse gives every bit of himself for what he cares about. He’ll put himself in danger to try and save someone whether or not they’re an ally because of the value he sees in life. He’ll use himself as bait to take down a more powerful enemy, just so everyone else can get away. Al is giving to a fault, ready to sacrifice himself for the sake of others.
In the end, Al’s biggest downfall is usually themself, whether by putting themself in danger for others or by their own self doubt. It’s not difficult to get into their head if you know what buttons to push and doubt is one of their biggest demons. They worry they’ll never get their body back or that the tragedies in their early life are their own fault. Alphonse won’t voice these concerns to others until it becomes too much to bear on their own and it all spills out, amplified by the many hours they spend on their own. It’s difficult to not get stuck in their head when everyone else is asleep for hours. This is something they’ve tried working on, but the fear of never feeling the warmth and comfort of another person still plagues them after all this time.
Even so, Alphonse keeps his trust in his brother being able to get his body back and keeps moving forward by his side.
virtues: Patient, Compassionate, Tolerant
vices: Insecure, Stubborn, Overly Giving
Alphonse Elric was born in the small rural town of Resembool in the year 1900. His entire world revolved around his mother and his older brother, Edward, seeing as his father left when he was young, sparing but a glance from afar before he closed the door behind him. Their mother did her best for them, but it was clear how much the man leaving affected her.
It didn’t take particularly long while poking amidst the absent father’s study for Ed and Al to find his books on alchemy. The subject fascinated the two, but what made the pair decide to keep learning it was the way their mother would light up and smile at the sight of them practicing it. It was a complicated subject, but the two children still were able to understand it well enough to teach themselves. She’d been so proud of them and supported her children’s interest in alchemy from then on, until she wasn’t around to do that anymore either.
A plague struck the town and took the life of Trisha Elric with it, leaving Ed and Al without the most important figure in their lives. Their family friends, the Rockbells, did what they could to support the two, but even so the siblings would do anything to get their mother back, even planning to raise the dead. No one had ever successfully performed a human transmutation to bring a dead human back to life, but the two were sure they could find a way to do it. It didn’t matter that it was forbidden because in the end they just wanted to see their mother smile again.
There weren’t many other alchemists in their little town and teaching themselves wasn’t giving the duo what they needed to truly become masters, so when a woman by the name of Izumi Curtis displayed the most powerful alchemy either of them had seen in their lives they knew they had to talk to her. The siblings managed to convince her to teach them, though once they returned home they still worked just as hard until they finally decided they were ready.
Once they gathered all of the ingredients to make a human body and offered some drops of their blood to tie in their mother’s soul, it was time for them to attempt to bring her back.
Al could quickly tell something was wrong, but it didn’t give them enough time to react when something began taking their bodies apart. He was taken apart completely, and for the longest time had no recollection of what happened next. He’d later find out he had encountered a white void and a being known as the Truth, sitting opposite of a large gate. In alchemy there is the law of equivalent exchange; to get something you must offer something else of equal value. Al had unknowingly offered his body and in return he was pulled through the gate and given the equivalent amount of knowledge about alchemy for that trade. All that remained of them was a soul that would only manage to attach itself to the attempt at human life they’d created. He had a brief moment of awareness inside a dying body that was hardly more than a mass of flesh and limbs.
What he did remember from the start was waking up and piloting a suit of armor like it was his body and Edward bleeding out on the ground sans an arm and a leg. Without much time to think, Alphonse took him to the Rockbell’s house to save Ed’s life. The following night, Al quickly found that he could not sleep or feel physical sensation like a human body could. The siblings entered a depressive state, having failed at bringing their mother back as well as nearly destroying themselves in the process.
Everything changed again when a military officer, Roy Mustang, arrived in search of a rumored skilled alchemist in the area. He found the remains of what the Elrics had done and confronted the two, though he hadn’t expected to find two children. In the end, he offered Edward a deal. If he became a state alchemist and served the military, he would get access to resources otherwise unavailable and make use of them to attempt to restore both his and his brother’s bodies. Shortly after Mustang left, Edward resolved to do just that and requested that the Rockbells fit him with automail prosthetics.
After a year of recovery, Edward successfully became a state alchemist at the age of 12. Alphonse, though he didn’t follow suit directly, supported him from the side. Though he never officially became part of the military, he and Ed did everything together, including missions the older of the two was sent on. They had no real way of stopping the two from sharing information with each other and it always was easier to have someone to bounce ideas off of.
Over the following years the siblings searched tirelessly for a way to restore their bodies. Among many happenings, Alphonse is able to recall his encounter with the Truth and opening up the ability to perform transmutations with just a clap of his hands like his sibling.
Even later, he gets pulled back to the Truth again against his will. Upon arriving in the white void, he sees his body waiting for him.
Alphonse cannot regain his body yet, the people he loves are in danger and he needs to be able to fight. This body in front of him is frail and weak.
They promise to come back for it when they can and head back out to the world where their family needs them.
Alchemy : The scientific technique of understanding the structure of matter, decomposing it, and then reconstructing it. Unlike most alchemists, Al can do so without touching what he’s manipulating, though he still needs to focus a great deal on it.
No Transmutation Circle : Upon remembering his encounter with the Truth and the Gate, Al can perform alchemy without drawing a transmutation circle, using himself as one instead. Like his brother, he needs to clap his hands to do so.
Alkahestry : Rudimentary at best, but after briefly studying it, Al is able to perform long distance transmutations if given the proper setup.
Inherent - Alphonse, being only a suit of armor, cannot eat, sleep, or get exhausted. He cannot feel physical sensations like temperature or pain (though having his blood seal messed with can cause a sensation similar to the latter). He is functionally immortal as long as his seal is intact, but occasionally has moments where he blacks out for a period of time due to his soul being bound to something other than his own body.
Journal: A journal with the list of all the food he wants to have when he gets his body back
requested power/item: His alchemy, please!
