I always wondered about this line:

I stared at it and stared at it, thinking, “Wait, what is he talking about? Wouldn’t the more natural retort be, You’ve got us to thank for your boss being here in this hideout and not stone dead? Did the League have to bust Re-Destro out of a hospital? Was the League and the MLA’s first team-up mission heisting Rikiya out of a hospital bed to get him back in time for this announcement? What gives with this line?”
And now I know.
Because this week’s chapter opens with a direct reference to this scene. A direct reference, and a Re-Destro clone. And then the Re-Destro clone starts talking about how he always had to wear two “faces,” up until Deika, after which he became two “people.”
The League didn’t just spring Re-Destro from the hospital; they left a clone in his place. Re-Destro has had a clone running around doing his CEO day job for nearly four months.
My god, I just–I just–there’s so much. My mind is a-whirl with everything this means, and I don’t even want to land on anything definite yet because I want to see how the translators handle the clone’s dialogue first.
Early indications, though? Are that clone!Re-Destro’s primary emotion about being a fake human being running on borrowed time is relief that at least he only has to be one person.
That’s right, everyone. I don’t know how he keeps doing it, but every time I think I hit a high watermark for, “Exactly how damaged is Re-Destro?” he manages to surprise me all over again.
I can’t wait for the chapter release this week.
