I need to finish this essay for my HUM final but I’m avoiding it I think just bc I’m used to it being Agonizing when it really shouldn’t be this time
and also I am kinda in a toy collecting mood™ and have been watching videos about that instead. I found out apparently there’s an antique collectibles/nerd stuff store not too terribly far from here? It’s an old Belk building that this guy bought and now there’s like 60 vendors that sell antiques and toys, it’s basically set up like a toycon that also has antique stuff that’s going on all the time and I REALLY wanna check it out
but I mean a) no car + no money = bad idea
but also b) It’s like. I LOVE toy hunting (and antiqueing!), just looking around at cool stuff but I only really collect the preschool TFs. Absolutely no one is selling them and if they are, it’s the stuff that’s not particularly hard to find.
So I have a vague idea of what’s interesting for most collectors just through osmosis, but what I’d really love is to have a local collector buddy (or buddies) to go with toy hunting with me from time to time and they can nerd out about the toys and/or antiques so I’m not just awkwardly staring at stuff. Also bc I love hearing about that kind of thing; I love watching American Pickers and The Toys That Made Us and stuff in that same kind of genre
The problem is the only irl spaces where I’d be able to connect with other collectors is, of course, focused on stuff I’m not collecting. also I’m not exactly the most social person to begin with, lmao
I mean, I have a couple local-ish friends that might be interested but idk how interested they’d be in toys/antiques. I mean they don’t HAVE to be, I’d love to hang out with someone who isn’t related to me, but if they’re not interested then there’s no reason to haul out to this place when we could just hang out at a local coffee shop instead
