i got ya! and i think i didn't explain myself well (i was definitely up past my bedtime answering that tbh) but i was trying to convey that i definitely feel like them being shown happy and in love in any sort of au with horror as the genre is a false happiness that won't last.
which is to say i don't think they would be. how many different ways can this show have them pick other people and willingly choose not to be together? because that's all their relationship has been and i'm not sure that any sort of au would be different. and, seriously, it's wild to me that these people who are obsessed with archie choosing betty forget that not only he almost never truly does in their 80 years of comic history but that in riverdale canon, betty isn't out there choosing him either.
of course there are ways for them to do an au and make them happy or whatever but with how roberto described it (ships on opposite sides, romantic, horror, etc) it doesn't feel like anything is going to last there, you know? we don't know what's up with them or why or how they're together so we're just waiting and seeing.
if you think the theory about them doing that whole married archie comic storyline (which is a good theory in my opinion, especially with the mines and explosions) is going to happen then archie being in some sort of coma but also exploring "what could have been" riverdale style seems like a good way to do a mini-event. i will say, though, that i wouldn't be shocked if the show that always writes them picking other people wrote them picking other people in the mini-event either.
It’s funny because these polls always take place on Twitter, where 1. The majority of the b*rchie fandom live and 2. Many of the bigger BH accounts no longer even share the polls because they don’t care 😂
You want to see popularity look at how the viewership dropped between S4 and S5. (I’m aware there’s more factors than Bugvarchie vs b*rchie that caused this but still….)
Or take a look at the amount of fanfiction for each ship on ao3. Look at followers on Instagram fan pages and tumblrs. Twitter is the literal worst and most biased indicator for b*rchie popularity
thinking about how in the bughead texting scene, they had betty removing her jewelry/make up, which could very well be a metaphor for the fact that she only lets her guard down and is honest about herself and what she’s doing with jughead
