Why do I believe that this would work?

Din: Wait, hold on, your a Jedi?
Ahsoka: I have the force, why?
Din: It's just that I thought...you would be green, shorter, and have big ears like the kid.

Grogu was not going to kill them.
Scare them, yes. But he would not kill the troopers. That was what Moff Gideon wanted; killers. And what Grogu saw were two men who had once been boys. Street urchins who were given a place to sleep, food, and a purpose. They had nowhere else to go.
Grogu knew if he killed them Gideon would just send more. This was not a fight he could win. But he knew Buir would want him to protect himself. So he did.
Moff Gideon was smiling. Grogu liked him better when he frowned.
“You’ve gotten very good with that.”
And I can do it to you too, Grogu thought.
“But it makes you oh-so sleepy.”
It doesn’t matter. As long as I stand up to bad guys like you!
Gideon knelt down. “Have you ever seen one of these? From years past?”
Give that to me! Grogu wanted to shout as he tried to pull the Darksaber away from the bad man with the Force. That’s not yours! It’s the jedi and Mandalorians!
“Oh, uh-huh.” Moff chuckled before drawing away, Darksaber still in hand. “You’re not ready to play with such things. Liable to put out an eye with one of these.”
Grogu could hear the crystal crying out in pain and disgust, begging to be returned to its people. Grogu renewed his efforts to get it back even as Moff Gideon shut the lightsaber off.
“Looks like you could use a nice, long sleep.”
Grogu held strong even as the flash of blue sped toward him. He had to try.
But even as everything went black, he thought, I don’t have to be scared. My Buir is coming.
His new Master was coming. Grogu could feel him through the Force, strong and bright as a twin sun on Tatooine.
Grogu knew he needed to finish his training. Even if it meant leaving Buir again. Maybe even for a long time.
He’d had visions. Things he would need his training for. There was someone he was supposed to meet. Someone his master would introduce him to. Someone very important.
And then his Master was right there.
He was shorter than Grogu imagined him. Younger too. Buir was scared and happy and sad all at once. He asked, “Are you a Jedi?”
“I am.” said his Master. Grogu wasn’t so sure. He looked a little young to have finished his training already.
Then in an instant Grogu knew why Master Luke had completed his training so quickly.
“Come, little one.”
Grogu looked to his Buir. His Buir who had always kept him safe and was so scared for him. Who was sad to let him go. Who was so confused and didn’t understand. Who knew nothing of the Force, had seen how frightening it could be, and still loved him.
But Buir’s love was bordering on attachment. And If that happened, Buir would do many very bad things for Grogu’s sake. Buir needed to let go.
Grogu could give him that.
“Let me go?” he cooed, voice soft just like Buir’s was when Grogu was scared. Because right now Buir was scared.
Buir did not understand. “He doesn’t want to go with you.”
Master Luke did. “He wants your permission.” Master Luke continued, “He is strong with the Force, but talent without training is nothing.”
Would Buir be strong enough to let him go? Grogu could sense Buir’s doubt that some young Jedi could protect his child.
Master Luke seemed to guess what Buir felt. “I would give my life to protect the child, but he will not be safe until he masters his abilities.”
Grogu knew that to be true. He hoped Buir would understand.
Buir moved to cradle Grogu in his arms. “Hey, go on. That’s who you belong with. He’s one of your kind.”
Grogu knew better. He belonged with Buir, he just had to leave for now.
“I’ll see you again.”
Buir was right about that, but still, Grogu felt his own fear creep in as Buir’s pain grew. Buir was aching so much and it was for Grogu.
“I promise too.” Grogu cooed as he reached out his hand. There was one more thing Grogu needed from his father.
“Please” he cooed.
And then Buir began to lift his helmet.
Buir’s face was so kind and so sad. Grogu wanted to look at it forever so he would never forget it. Buir had given him everything. He touched warm skin in place of cool metal and watched the flicker of a smile on Buir’s face.
Buir loved him so much. He could feel it more clearly than anything else. Grogu loved Buir, but Buir loved him more. Buir loved him enough to let him go. And as Buir let go of his attachment it was replaced by true love.
“Alright, pal. It’s time to go.”
Grogu’s ears drooped. “I’m going to miss you so much, Buir.” Suddenly, he was afraid. “What if…”
“Don’t be afraid,” Buir said earnestly. And Grogu knew he understood.
Buir set him down and gave Master Luke a watery smile. Grogu hugged his leg and made sure Buir was looking at him when he spoke.
“I love you so much, Buir. I’ll be good.”
“Hey there, kiddo.” A voice beeped. Grogu turned to see a blue and white astromech and made his way over.
“I’m R2-D2. I knew another green wrinkly thing like you. Let’s hope you aren’t as much of a pain in my circuits as he was.”
Grogu and R2 chatted for a minute or two, R2 promising that his Buir would be okay and everything would be alright.
“You’ll see each other again or I’ll fry Luke’s circuits myself.”
Grogu looked up at his Master, already feeling excited, and raised his arms. “I’m ready, Master.” He looked deeply into his Master’s eyes. Visions of another masked man removing his helmet played in Luke’s mind, though his expression remained neutral. “I’m sorry,” Grogu cooed.
Buir and Master shared a look. “May the Force be with you.”
And then they were leaving.
Grogu watched his Buir fade from view. His brave Buir, trying hard not to weep, to be strong for Grogu. Grogu put all his efforts into projecting a single thought.
I will come home.
And as Buir vanished from view, he knew he understood.
For @clanoftwoweek. Part 2, Reunion, will fit into my personal Ultimate Universe Au.
Just re-watched The Rescue and I’m sobbing. Why do I do this to myself.
(I haven’t gotten any cease-and-desist warnings, so I’m getting bold now and sneakin’ in TWO father & son moments disguised as plot...)

It's Grogu's first day of school. 6-year-old Grogu and his 37-year-old adoptive daddy Din are both excited. I was lying on my bed, scrolling on the mobile, when a demonic baby Yoda with sharp teeth appeared from the shadows and said, "So you have been binge-watching the shadow man on TikTok?" It then fucking chomped down on my leg. I retaliated by biting its tiny head off.
