Leyla had promised her daughter a treat from the food trucks and stalls that surrounded the fest, but she didn’t want to give her cotton candy or something equally just as full of sugar. Standing in line for one of the local food trucks, Leyla was straining to see the menu through the line. Isabella’s sleep schedule was already messed up today, so she didn’t want to add to it by stuffing her full of sugar. Isabella had been on the ground, holding Leyla’s hand while her free hand played with one of the glow sticks her father had gotten for her. Though she’d been trying to read the menu, she still caught sight of her daughter moving the stick a little too fast and whacking the woman in front of them in the legs. “Oh, gosh! I’m so sorry!” Leyla instantly apologized and took the glow stick away from the toddler. “Isabella! You need to be more careful. Say you’re sorry.”

First, the backstory: Saturday was my birthday! 🥳 A few days before, as I chatted with a co-worker while leaving the office at the end of the day, I mentioned that I would be a year older the next time he saw me. It was the first time I’d really thought of my birthday this year.
Then, not even a half hour later, the Dean Martin album I was listening to on my drive home (Italian Love Songs - my favorite so far! 😍) finished playing its last song. Having forgotten that Apple Music will now play random songs (that aren’t even in your Library) once the album you chose is over, I was completely surprised to suddenly hear Judy Garland (my all-time favorite artist!) sing, 🎶 “Now that it’s your birthday…” 🎶 😲! (For a split second, I thought, “Is Judy singing to me?!” 😃☺️) The timing was like a little cosmic birthday present. 😊💖
Although it certainly caught my attention, I could not place the song. 🤔 (And I thought I’d heard everything Judy had ever done. ☺️) After several lines, I was stunned to realize this unfamiliar beginning was actually a long intro to a very popular standard. 😃
Now, let’s play…Can you guess the song before I finish the intro??? 😊
Hint: It actually dates all the way back to the 1920s - and has been recorded by luminaries like Dean Martin, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, and even Willie Nelson! *But out of all these fantastic artists, Judy is the only one whose rendition includes this birthday-themed introduction*:
✨ Note: This is a raw, unedited, “one take” recording, made using Voice Memos on my phone.
✨ Disclaimer: This is just for fun - to share my love for singing classic songs, and to bring attention to the professional artists associated with them. *No copyright infringement intended.*
✨ Check out the original!: Once you’ve played the guessing game with my version, listen to the master’s 😊 - from her album, Judy in Love.
✨ Want more?: Go here for my first musical post, You’re Gonna Hear From Me. 🎶
🌟 So, what do you think? Did you name that tune? ☺️ Would you like to hear more?
Do you have a favorite song from a classic movie / Broadway show or a standard of the era you’d like me to try? I may need to individualize it to fit my voice, but I’m always up for a challenge - and I’d love to shine a spotlight on some of your favorites! 🌟
The great thing about the Kollok Radar is that unlike most friend groups, there IS no responsible friend. Marcus tried to sedate a bulletproof man via needle. Billy learned that he can warp people’s perceptions of reality and chose to make himself cool. Mickey encourages Billy’s caffeine addiction. And don’t even get me started on Skye. There is no mom friend and 3/4 of the radar have at least one parent that fucked them over somehow or is just a bad parent, none of them know how to function as basic human beings. Of course Bucket had to step in, only a goddamn FBI agent would be able to come even close to keeping the Radar in check. Bucket is a tired dad who just worked a ten hour shift at his office and the Radar are his leash kids.
Straight friend groups be like: “the jock” “the volleyball girl” “the blonde” “the nerd” “brunette”
Gay friend groups be like: “popular girl that gets in fights with homeless people”, “coma kid with god-like reality altering powers”, “weird kid that smells like popcorn”, “football player that can talk to squirrels”, “squirrel”
* @violatile sent ❛ did you just punch me in the boob? ❜
billy made a face, backing away from olivia. his eyes were wide and he was trying to fight off laughter. “if i say no will that save me from retribution?” he was preparing to take to the halls of king’s and make for his dorm if he needed to. they were rats and for the most part he trusted liv not to kill him for accidentally hitting her in the boob.

You merely sighed, feeling the heat rushing to your face. Billy was at it again. You knew what he meant, you always did, it just never came out right. He tried to backtrack and explain, but your friends were already laughing. Too late. He did this more times than you could count, meaning something innocent, but it coming out in a dirty way. Usually it was Maria or Marcus to start laughing first, then Willie. Saya always told them they were being childish, but you'd catch the start of a grin spreading across her face before he subject was changed. You didn't mind of course, sometimes words just got mixed up, but you wished he'd at least give what he was about to say a thought before it came bursting out of his mouth, usually for all to hear. It was cute when he did it of course, the kind of thing that could always make you laugh, but that didn't mean it wasn't completely mortifying, especially in front of teachers and Lin. You wanted to show you were a dedicated, smart student. You couldn't do that with so many "that's what she said" jokes coming from friends.
"What about me gives off mafia?" You teased. Your friendship was new, and a little odd. Billy had never been close enough to a LKegacy to look them in the eyes, let alone befriend them. And yet, here you were, sitting next to him on the roof, not threatening to push him off like Viktor or Brandy-Lynn would have. He wasn't sure how it happened, what drew you to one another, but you clicked immediately. He found himself telling you everything, from his fathers debts to his crushes to his closest friends. You liked Billy. He wasn't like anyone else you knew. He was funny, and kind, something kids in this school rarely showed.
"I don't know. You shut down my best ideas." CIA, FBI, NASA. You turned down all of them. You promised him once he got it you'd tell him, but so far he kept coming up wrong. He was running out of ideas. He didn't know a lot about the Legacies, or their families. Most of it was rumors, passed from one group to another. He had no evidence that it was the lies his friends all said it was, but there was also no reason to believe any of it. Still, it was all he had. You tried giving him hints, but he didn't want help. He was going to figure this out on his own, even if it did take forever.
Imagine giving Billy graphic details about your last homework assignment:
"Okay, I think that's eno-"
"There was so much blood. I mean it wasn't just splattered all over the walls or hemorrhaging out of them, it was everywhere. I took three showers and it was still on me. And the intestines? Spilling everywhere!" Even as you spoke about it, you couldn't get the scene out of your mind. It was an easy assignment, one you could have done with your eyes closed. Literally. But, like all things, you were an overachiever, wanting to show your victim the pain they put you through by putting them through it. They weren't the first person you killed, but they were the first you'd be graded on. They might say you were sloppy or hectic, but you'd get points for enthusiasm.
"Y/n, I'm gonna puke." He cringed, pushing away his lunch. An unfortunate day for spaghetti and meatballs. Billy made the mistake of asking you how class was. Everyone else had been avoiding the subject for this very reason. You were dying to tell someone, and it seemed like he was the only one who'd listen. He regretted it though. Every detail seemed more gory the longer it went on. You were obviously excited, and though he didn't want to shut down your excitement, he was feeling a little nauseous. You promised eye gouging and elements of medieval torture, but he was more than sure, if he heard anymore, he was going to be sick.
