March 26, 2021 - Black-headed Tanager (Stilpnia cyanoptera)
These tanagers are found in parts of northern South America in mountain, foothill, and lowland forests. Foraging in pairs and family groups, often at fruiting trees, they feed on small fruits and some arthropods. Possibly breeding between March and June in some parts of their range and in October in other areas, they build open cup-shaped nests. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN, as their relatively small population is in decline due to habitat loss and degradation.
