Cryptid Drawtober Day 21—The Thunderbird
Native American tribes all across the US tell stories of giant birds of prey that soar the skies. They are said to be large enough to carry whales back to their nests and they can stir up storms when they fly—creating thunder with their wings and lightning with a blink of their eyes.
In Illinois in 1977, a little boy was scooped up by perhaps a slightly smaller thunderbird cousin and carried up in the air for over thirty feet before the bird gave up and dropped him. The boy and other witnesses claimed the bird was all black with a white band around its neck and its body was about five feet tall.
