          “Stop, stop, stoooop!” Yuuto formed a T with his hands to signalize a timeout, all the while a wide smile appeared on his face. It’s been a while since the two of them hung out and grabbed food together. The last time happened around middle school, together with Touma and her brother Shinji. Man, those were the days. Back then he’d always climb trees and jump out of school windows, he lost count on how many times he went to detention because of this.

           “My brain is getting fried just thinking about all the possible options. How about we get everything, pizza, chicken nuggets AND nachos.” He paused as he allowed his genius to grow even bigger. “Let’s get a family-sized pizza and put everything on it as toppings. Thank me later.” He could already hear his best friend Touma crying in the distance.

    //  Kianna’s choice of transportation had always been a car. Especially driven by someone else. She could spread her legs, sit back and be taken to her next destination. Thus, a bike seemed to be the opposite of her preferences yet here she was, pushing the door to a workshop dedicated to those machines.

       She removed her sunglasses, tucking them in with her fingers. “ Hiro- honey. I’m here to pick you up for dinner. ”

    @bkerchick      —     a fated encounter.

          Eiji sighed as he leaned back in the driver seat of a taxi, taking a break from his current shift. Silence surrounded him as several thoughts began to cloud his mind. Ah, overthinking again are we? Are you that bored? His own voice spoke to him inside his head. His hand reached out for the radio but he stopped himself from turning it on. He remained in this awkward position as he pondered whether or not it was even worth it. Music was a great escape but sometimes it could trigger even darker thoughts and emotions. With another sigh his hand fell onto his lap. His gaze shifted to the window next to him before he began to space out. He had been working as a taxi driver for a few months now, after he quit his job at the cafe. Maybe it was a mistake. He loved driving around, especially with company, But sitting alone, waiting for a call, waiting for movement, waiting for something to distract the noise inside him — it was hell.

          As a waiter, there seemed to be constant movement, there was no time to think. Why did he quit? He enjoyed the work there. And yet, he always seemed to quit when things seemed to go too smoothly, as if he was trying to sabotage himself. Was he running away from something? Or maybe... he was still searching for that something he wouldn’t mind doing for the rest of his life. But so far nothing truly sparked his interest. He was just a lost boy looking for a place he truly belonged to. He remained deep in thought as raindrops began to hit the surface of his car and rolled down the windows. He blinked at the sudden sound, then his gaze followed one of the droplets running down the transparent glass. In the same moment he caught sight of a person, his eyes now changing focus to see more clearly. Eiji squinted, now sitting up in his seat. It was a young woman.. holding onto her nose? She’s bleeding. His eyes widened as soon as the realization hit him. Without even thinking twice, he started the engine and slowly approached the female with the taxi. When he got closer, he rolled down his window to stick out his head.

         “... Excuse me! Miss?” He took off his seat belt so that he could reach the door of the passenger seat and opened it. “It’s raining and... ah... how about I drive you home?” He asked, waving a napkin in front of him, a warm welcoming smile gracing his features.

    @bkerchick     —     continued.

          He was sitting in the driver seat, which he had perfectly adjusted beforehand to feel the most comfortable during long rides, long rides like this one. Next to him sat no other but one of his best friends, Hiroko. She would often join him on random car rides through the city and beyond, especially at night. They’d often talk about this and that, sing along to his classic rock & pop playlists, and nap together. Sometimes, on clear nights, they’d even go on the roof of his van to stargaze. As they drove through the night, street lights and some random cars would occassionally pass them. The songs playing in the background went from ‘Southern Sky’ to ‘Happy Together’ ... and eventually ‘Night Fever’ began playing. Shunpei was bopping his head to the beat of each song, humming and singing along from time to time. While doing so, he would often glance over to the female, who was sitting rather stiff in her seat, squirming from one side to the other.

          Now that he thought about it, she seemed kinda weird today. She didn’t even sing along to ‘What is Love’ earlier, something that was completely out of character for her, since the two would always recreate the scene from the movie ‘A Night at the Roxbury’ when it started playing. He frowned as he tapped his fingers against the steering wheel. Eventually he spoke without thinking. "Keep your head up.” He didn’t even know if she was feeling down but something felt different about her, maybe something was upsetting her... or maybe someone broke her heart? If the latter was the case, he needed a name and address right now. He didn’t expect her to talk about what’s been going on inside her pretty head but to his surprise she actually seemed to open up about it. At the same moment, his hand reached to the volume control to turn it down a little. Now the music was just background noise, like in those slice of life tv shows.

          He listened while keeping a straight face, though, ‘Stayin’ Alive’ made it rather hard to not move a muscle and to appear serious. He glanced around the streets and eventually found a nice spot to park his van off-road. ‘We are friends, right?’ Just as he was turning the vehicle to get it in the right position, Hiroko’s words hit him. His grip on the steering wheel tightened. Then in the next moment, he abruptly hit the brakes, causing some snacks to fly around, before the van stood still in place. So... we are the reason she feels down? Some friends we are... for not even realizing such a thing. Shunpei remained silent even after the girl had finished talking. Removing the seat belt, his hand reached under his seat to take out a bag of cheetos. Was he hungry or did he need to eat because of the stress he felt inside? He didn’t know but that didn’t stop him from eating like a maniac anyway. While each bite caused a crunching noise, he spoke, though he never managed to face her.

          “We are friends. A hundred-percent. And stuff.” He trailed off and fell silent again. Lord. He was so bad at these kinds of things. He didn’t know how to cheer someone up even if it was a friend. All of her worries... he couldn’t relate to them. He never thought much about how others felt, or how his actions could affect them, thus causing many people problems. Licking his fingers, he thought about what to do. All the while, he opened the door, allowing cool fresh air to go inside the usually stuffy vehicle. ‘Never’ from Footloose ... bad timing. The bag of cheetos was thrown behind his seat before he took out a pack of cigarettes. Shunpei made sure to face the outside and began smoking. The smoke went past the front window and up into the dark sky. “Some people prefer to deal with their problems alone. There’s not much you can do, except be there for them when they eventually need someone. It’s... not dumb to feel upset. It shows you care.” He inhaled and exhaled slowly. “Doesn’t mean you’re worthless either, or that the friendship means nothing. It just means that humans are different.”
