One Piece Panel Picks - Chapter 87
Usopp doesn’t realize it yet, but every time he stands up to face an enemy while visibly shaking is a brave act. After all, being brave isn’t about not knowing fear, rather it’s knowing the emotion all too well and overcoming it anyway.
He’s moving closer to being a brave warrior of the sea whenever he overcomes his cowardice. It’s notable because his actions and motivations are something normal humans can hugely relate to.
This instance is also interesting: he’s influenced by Luffy’s disposition, but what ultimately moved him was his pride, particularly his desire to live with his head held high.
His pride pushed him to take action, to at least catch up. For our resident coward, this is such a great leap in character development. Well, he regresses every now and then, ‘cause bad habits are hard to break... but when push comes to shove, you can always trust that Usopp will stand up and deliver.
Also note his motivations to fight and how they change/culminate through time — First, out of pride. Later, for his dreams. And ultimately, for his captain. Ah. The feels.
