Just finished my post-Thanksgiving detox (which was NOT a juice cleanse, but a healthy one where I got to eat actual food!!) and it’s #facetofacefriday so here’s another transformation post no one asked for. Photos on the left were taken this time last year, right are current. Same leather jacket. Last year my arms were about to burst the seams of the sleeves and I couldn’t zip it up. Now, it’s too big for me. Never going to get rid of it, though, because my grandpa bought it for me when I went back for my grandma’s funeral a few years ago ❤ The size change is neat, but my favorite part about this one is the positive change in emotions and confidence between this year and the last. A big reminder that you don’t have to wait for the new year to start working on your goals, whatever they may be. Have a super freaking awesome weekend, and good luck on your finals to all you students out there 🤘

This week on overlooked I want to have a chat about bigger size clothing, chubby girls and the place of Fashion Nova in my heart. If I’m honest, Fashion Nova’s body ideal made me feel more seen and accepted than a lot of other brands. I didn’t have to trick their clothes to flatter my body. As a woman that is often ignored by the fashion industry, Fashion Nova made me feel good about myself. And it’s hard to find clothes that do that.
But as we know, the price of fast fashion is high. I’m not sure it’s healthy to attach my sense of self-worth on a brand anyway, and when you look closely, maybe they’re not as body positive as they seem.
Here’s a link to the video, where I talk about all this. What do you think?
Love,
Janika
