Together Behind Four Walls - An anthology for charity Marie Curie Nurses
Thank your Love Book Tours for the chance to read and be a part of the book tour for Together Behind Closed Doors, an anthology dedicated to articulating our many thoughts and feelings on the pandemic and the almost 2 years we’ve spent on lockdown.
This collection didn't limit itself to one form of writing. It used a combination of short stories, poetry and sketches which I really liked! One can’t always talk about the pandemic easily, which is why it’s nice to have other forms.
I initially found it hard to relate to the book, not for any fault of its own, but because I think for me it’s been easier to not feel the pandemic, to treat my distancing and isolation like an indulgence as opposed to a measure to stay safe. But I also think that’s why I did need to read this; to remind myself that I have been feeling a great deal, even when I think I haven’t, and to remember that this will never be the new normal. I think there is a lot for everyone in this book, and it might be nice to relate to a moment that you missed or never had words to describe.
I’m going to leave one of the poems from the book here mostly because I still smile at people from under my mask sometimes and then remember that they won’t see it.
Hope by Chris White
It’s the smile that you swap with a stranger
That wave from across the street
The stretching and yawning, first thing in the morning Then hitting that floor with your feet
It’s the ghost that we all cling on to
When we feel like we just cannot cope
The candle at night, the dark tunnel’s light
That warm arm around you is
