A big learning from my full time event days was being confident about styling the table. Where should the cake go, the desserts; which stand goes on the left, is it better on the right; does it look imbalance, or too neat.
I always tried to channel my ex-boss’ mindset of “break the shape”, whenever he saw something too symmetrical, too straight. While it might seem logical to follow lines, especially in photography, sometimes a little asymmetric-ism gives it more balance. Sometimes I try to remember the rule-of-thirds and how it applies even in real-life styling.
It helps a lot to have tableware that aren’t angular; putting it in any direction would naturally break the shape since it’s not straight to begin with. A good balance of straight lines with crates, symmetrical shapes like cake stands, and breaking the shape with asymmetric trays.

サンフランシスコに訪れたときに、道端に咲いていたお花を撮影しデザインしたものです。
散歩をしている時にふと見つけたお花で、すごくキレイで、繊細なお花でした。
