What is the theme of the day?

    Card:

    • Wheel of fortune

    First impressions:

Fate, cycles, luck. Dionysus. How much will you leave to chance, and how much is in your control? If you can’t know what will be, maybe you should just go and bury your nose in a book until this all blows over - or do you want something more when it is all over? Think about the forces that are in control, and know when it’s time to relinquish your own. Do you always need to push the wheel? Should you let history repeat itself? The divinity that shapes our ends, rough hew them how we will.

    Guided reading:

Change, cycles, inevitable fate, rising and setting, karma, destiny, turning point, fortune, felicity, luck; lack of control, bad luck, superfluity, negative external forces. First things first, make sure you haven’t pissed anyone off. We’re in for a wild ride, which kind of makes you want to abandon all sense of hope and accountability, but remember that your turn will come again. This is a turning point for us all, and life as we know it is different, but that does not necessarily have to be a bad thing. This card is a reminder to think about the things still under our influence and find a way to accept the things that aren’t. We can’t know how things will turn out, and it’s natural to feel a little helpless as a result, but things will turn around in our favour eventually, and we will be better prepared to face whatever else life decides to throw at us. For now, all we can do is try and keep things moving towards that point - for example by working from home. Or reading. Or chasing our tails. Whatever.

    Reflection:

Confession time: today while shuffling, there were two jumpers that, your honour, I just did not vibe with, and my instincts told me were not the final message today. So, honourable mention to: The Lovers (partnerships, duality, union, choice) and the Knight of Wands Reversed (anger, impulsiveness, recklessness, frustration, delays, division). Perhaps there is an underlying theme of feeling stuck and desperate, something that I am struggling to make peace with. I should be mindful of hasty decisions and consider where I still have agency, whether now is the time to take risks. There may be conflicting forces at work causing this tension. You might be struggling to adjust, and wondering when we can get off this ride, but just because you’re feeling out of control doesn’t mean you can disregard all sense of accountability. It seems easier to let yourself be carried along, and sometimes it is, but is that the most constructive way? Focus on the things you can control, prepare yourself for any outcome, and trust that the rest will turn out ok in the end; this would go a long way to helping you feel at ease. Luck will come back around eventually, and in the meantime it seems a tad dramatic to throw yourself completely at the mercy of the cosmos, don’t you think? Or does it?

‘Not a whit. We defy augury. There’s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now, ’tis not to come. If it be not to come, it will be now. If it be not now, yet it will come—the readiness is all.’ - Hamlet, The Tragedy of Prince Hamlet of Denmark, Act V Scene II

🐤🐈Additional guidance for those who need it💙 04.02.20

Denying a need or urge won’t make it go away. If there is something you wish to do, some creative passion you need to explore (as long as it isn’t something destructive) pursue that interest. Trust your instincts, rely on your intuition, and find a way to express what’s in your heart.

    Focus of query:

What is the energy of today?

    Card:

    image
    • Strength

    First impressions:

Wow. Either this is an especially intense week or my shuffling skills need work. Can’t decide if this is sarcastic or if I’m missing something. Compassion, courage, connections, balanced relationships/concepts. Hestia. Grace in the face of adversity; fortitude. Endurance. Cautious, quiet hope. Reassurance, soothing. Mastering passions, inner understanding. Be firm but fair with yourself and others.

    Guided reading:

Upright, Strength stands for confidence, courage, patience, bravery, focus, power, and action; reversed it may indicate weakness, self doubt or insecurity. Strength can serve as a reminder to be steady, to set our shoulders and brace ourselves in hard times. We’re in this for the long haul; we must draw on our nerve and stamina in order to get through it, as we always have before. Kindness and composure go a long way, and a little gentle persuasion never hurt. Be careful to give people credit for being as brave as they can be without falling prey to their fears or ‘wildness’ yourself, and be patient with them!

    Reflection:

All Fools’ Day. Either my deck is mocking me or can sense I’m struggling to keep my spirits up. Possibly both. It’s been difficult to find sources of strength today, either in myself or around me, though perhaps courage is in the simple act of getting up and facing the world, tending to whatever needs to be done without complaint. Bravery does not always need to be bold and brash, make a show of itself; there is more of it around than we know. Maybe it’s in the way we work to master our emotions, or in the ‘stay strong’ thrown out by a colleague as she heads back home. Strength at the moment may simply be physically showing up for yourself and others even when you least feel like it, and it certainly takes a new kind of courage to exist at the moment. This is a good reminder to be as resolute and constant as we can in turbulent times, to be firm within ourselves and ultimately keep calm and carry on.

What should I focus on today?

    Card:

    image
    • The Sun

    First impressions:

A very powerful message. Vitality, joy, brightness, nature, carefree. Apollo. You WILL be happy; you have no choice in the matter. Maybe you just need to go outside for a change. Try for a little lightness of heart, some silliness - though remember streaking is probably taking it a bit too far, don’t you think? Or not. Trust the horse. You decide how tasteful and subtle to be. Channel what you can of your inner optimist. Warmth, fresh air, and geniality are important today.

    Guided reading:

Success, celebration, positivity, overcoming subconscious obstacles, bliss, material happiness, contentment, fun, warmth. My deck seems to be sending me a clear message to focus on overcoming my tendency towards melancholy, to take enjoyment in the good around me rather than shutting it away. Though the world is a changed and sombre place, spring is underway, and now more than ever we need to appreciate the freedoms and blessings still available, and look forward to the day when they are fully restored. In the meantime, it’s fine to be a little absurd; wear your flower crown, sing, dance, be loud - have fun and do whatever will make you smile.

    Reflection:

This card literally leapt at me today. Though I wouldn’t usually put too much stock in any ‘jumpers’ that slip out while shuffling, I felt strongly compelled to read from this one, and when I turned it over I saw why. This appears to be a message of hope and optimism, and a very forceful one at that. The only way for us to get through challenging times is to find happiness where we can, and The Sun reminds us to focus on lightening our spirits - perhaps by getting in touch with the natural world and taking care of our health. There is still light, and the future will be brighter still if we do what we can to have fun and spread positivity. It might feel tactless, it might not come naturally, but it’s healing. After pulling this card, I’ve seen little signs everywhere. The sun was out, and so was the horse in the stable by our house, and I’ve seen oranges everywhere too, which is random but they’ve always been a symbol of happiness to me. In the spirit of today’s card, here’s a few other things that made me smile today:

    1. The Orange - Poem by Wendy Cope.

    2. Orange Trees - Love + Fear, song by MARINA (in fact, maybe it’s just because I listened to it on repeat last summer, but the whole album is a mood booster without being in-your face about it).

    3. Re-reading the Percy Jackson series, which I’ve loved since I was a kid and even now is good for a bit of easy escapism.

    4. Received a really lovely text message from a friend I’ve been missing (who is, coincidentally, a Leo).

‘But what I wanted to say is this: after the period of melancholy is over, you will be stronger than before; you will recover your health, and you will find the scenery around you so beautiful that you will want nothing but to paint.’ — Vincent van Gogh.

(Or: cheer up, dude - you know there’s a literal horse outside your window right?).

Message for the collective 🐈 03.31.20

If you need attention from someone in your life, do not be afraid to ask for it. People don’t always know when others need attention, so take responsibility for your needs and communicate them. Yes, it might make you feel vulnerable, but in the company of trusted loved ones, you can feel safe.

    • Queen of Pentacles Reversed

    First impressions:

Out of touch with material needs and the physical world, lacking where typically abundant. Perhaps you’re feeling a little uprooted, insecure, and not so sure or grounded. Are there some needs not being met, or something you are finding it difficult to manifest/share? Make sure you’re taking care of yourself and those around you. Where do you need support?

    Guided reading:

Wisdom, keeper, influencer. The material world. Upright, the Queen of Pentacles represents magnificence, generosity, security, greatness of soul, a pensive but motherly nature, practicality; reversed, she might indicate evil, fear, suspicion, suspense, mistrust, or an imbalance of work and family commitments. There seems to be a general lack of support on offer today, and a great deal of misgiving or doubt around you. Work is taking over. Are you feeling slightly abandoned? Or perhaps you are particularly unsettled by a sense of corruption nearby. Be careful this does not bring out your own ugly side, and think about what good you could share to restore balance.

    Reflection:

I have definitely noticed an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion in my working environment lately, and my deck seems to have picked up on that. Having been placed at another site where there is plenty of space for tension and spite to brew, and there is little done to discourage this, it’s safe to say I’ve felt cast away and unsteady. It would be easy to join the crowd and cry ‘villainy’, give in to my own fears, but maybe this card is a reminder not to let it all take over, to keep work separate and be a source of stability and comfort. I can choose what to nurture, where to provide; a job is just a job, and I certainly don’t lack for security and creature comforts at home, even if fear seems predominant at the moment. Who knows how things might change; take comfort where you can and make sure your feet are steady.

Who cares if the dark side has cookies? Yes they’re loud, but that’s it. Stick the kettle on, hug your Mum; you’ll be fine.
