Focus of query:
What is the theme of the day?
- Wheel of fortune
Fate, cycles, luck. Dionysus. How much will you leave to chance, and how much is in your control? If you can’t know what will be, maybe you should just go and bury your nose in a book until this all blows over - or do you want something more when it is all over? Think about the forces that are in control, and know when it’s time to relinquish your own. Do you always need to push the wheel? Should you let history repeat itself? The divinity that shapes our ends, rough hew them how we will.
Change, cycles, inevitable fate, rising and setting, karma, destiny, turning point, fortune, felicity, luck; lack of control, bad luck, superfluity, negative external forces. First things first, make sure you haven’t pissed anyone off. We’re in for a wild ride, which kind of makes you want to abandon all sense of hope and accountability, but remember that your turn will come again. This is a turning point for us all, and life as we know it is different, but that does not necessarily have to be a bad thing. This card is a reminder to think about the things still under our influence and find a way to accept the things that aren’t. We can’t know how things will turn out, and it’s natural to feel a little helpless as a result, but things will turn around in our favour eventually, and we will be better prepared to face whatever else life decides to throw at us. For now, all we can do is try and keep things moving towards that point - for example by working from home. Or reading. Or chasing our tails. Whatever.
Confession time: today while shuffling, there were two jumpers that, your honour, I just did not vibe with, and my instincts told me were not the final message today. So, honourable mention to: The Lovers (partnerships, duality, union, choice) and the Knight of Wands Reversed (anger, impulsiveness, recklessness, frustration, delays, division). Perhaps there is an underlying theme of feeling stuck and desperate, something that I am struggling to make peace with. I should be mindful of hasty decisions and consider where I still have agency, whether now is the time to take risks. There may be conflicting forces at work causing this tension. You might be struggling to adjust, and wondering when we can get off this ride, but just because you’re feeling out of control doesn’t mean you can disregard all sense of accountability. It seems easier to let yourself be carried along, and sometimes it is, but is that the most constructive way? Focus on the things you can control, prepare yourself for any outcome, and trust that the rest will turn out ok in the end; this would go a long way to helping you feel at ease. Luck will come back around eventually, and in the meantime it seems a tad dramatic to throw yourself completely at the mercy of the cosmos, don’t you think? Or does it?
‘Not a whit. We defy augury. There’s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now, ’tis not to come. If it be not to come, it will be now. If it be not now, yet it will come—the readiness is all.’ - Hamlet, The Tragedy of Prince Hamlet of Denmark, Act V Scene II
