  • Okay, so I usually don’t do running stories in the strip, but for this I need to make an exception. As many of you know, as of the 12th of February, I am officially and LEGALLY Dee. Uh… spoilers?

This is something I avoided for the last few years, intimidated by the cost and the convoluted process that my state and county required to go through with it all. But back last fall, I had finally had enough. Until you have a reason to hate hearing your legal name, you really don’t realize just how often it pops up on an almost daily basis. The doctor? The Pharmacy? IRS? Paying ANY bill? It just follows you and I decided, with a lot of help, to finally attack this head on.

And since it was not an uneventful process taking a few months of saving and contacting various offices followed by a few MORE months of drama, waiting and more drama, it seems like it’s the exact kind of story that this comic was created to tell. I WILL say that the trickiest part to work out for this strip was in figuring out how to NOT actually write my old name, which I didn’t want to do. Thankfully, Charlie Brown’s teacher offered inspiration.

So, buckle in for the next few weeks, and I hope you enjoy. :)

  • Change Stones

“Then the Devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, change these stones into loaves of bread.”
But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:3-4NLT

Did you know, satan still uses the same tactics on everyday people, which he used on Jesus?
For ten plus years, Lou and I lived apart five days weekly, together weekends only. Family life was an achievable struggle. An opportunity came up for him to take a union job near home in a coal mine. Permits, and red tape closed the job three days later. After six weeks, Lou couldn’t work other union jobs, unemployable because he wasn’t laid off or fired either. He went to work daily to make a living, remaining locked off the job.
After fasting and praying, I believed God would get us change the stones of our situation. Lou kept saying, it would be his physical labor, bailing us out. He’d change stones into bread.
God gave me the promise Ephesians 3:20KJV “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” Believe God, when He gives you His word. He changed stones into bread for us. Within six months, we were almost totally out of debt. Not just surviving— but thriving.

Five to six days a week, people go to work to earn a living. They try to cover the basic needs, plus multitude of wants. Jesus spoke to us about the multitude of worries we have trying to get those wants— telling us God takes better care of flowers, than we can take care of ourselves. “…why worry about your clothes? Look at the lilies …how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are” Matthew 6:28-29NLT. When we worry about being able to care for ourselves, we’re still trying to change stones into bread.

Jesus said: “For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:32-33NLT. My question— Are we pagans?

What’s primary to life? If we were in a third world country or homeless— primary would be clean water to drink, food, and shelter. Commercials for the car, house, clothes, jewelry are— “…all that the world can offer us—the gratification of our flesh, the allurement of the things of the world, and the obsession with status and importance—none of these things come from the Father but from the world” 1John 2:16TPT. Have we been sucked down the rabbit hole of the world?

Primary for God’s children is seeking His will coupled with obedience. Are we doing His will or worrying. I know three people who work for Jesus. One’s job: walking around areas designated by Jesus on maps, praying His will for each area. He supplies everything needed for those trips and walks, although she’s not an official ministry or missionary. The others, a couple, (now with children,) go door to door and along streets across the USA to find and lead the lost to Jesus. Funded in miraculous ways, as God changes stones into their bread.

Are we truly living by “every word that comes from the mouth of God?” Do we still try to change stones ourselves for our will? It’s your choice. You choose.

PRAYER: Papa God, I want life to be about You, not me. Help me, help us to allow You to change those stones for us, in Jesus’s name I pray.

Climate change threatens California’s ‘highway on the sidelines’

Mountains on one side of the road and the Pacific Ocean on the other: It was 1956 and Gary Griggs was experiencing California State Route 1 for the first time.
He was a child, but in later decades he would run this scenic stretch of road called the Pacific Coast Highway dozens of times. He will also learn how fragile it is.
In 2017, Griggs consulted on a major repair of the highway as an erosion…

  • For the longest time, I worked to suppress my anger toward you because I wanted to forgive you. I worked on understanding your actions, grounded by the unmovable fact that you care about me, but no matter how much I tried to leave my anger behind, it always came back. Now I know why.

In my own mistakes, I have found that saying “I’m sorry” – even if genuine – is not enough. If nothing changes, patterns emerge, and cycles continue. For forgiveness to be possible, the wound needs to be tended, but that can only happen if the cause of the injury has been taken care of.

The thing is, I have been forgiving you for things you have not apologized for.

My pain deserves to be acknowledged; my anger deserves to be felt; I need to create distance from the cause of the wound. Only then can I heal.

I still want to forgive you, but that is no longer the goal. Maybe one day I will, but today I don’t.

  • A thing I think too many people forget is that, no matter how much you grow or change in your lifetime, the person you were back then is still you.

I can never fully divorce myself from the actions of the person I used to be because that person caused pain, they hurt people. I hurt people.

There will never come a time in my life when I no longer have to take accountability for those things, just as there will never come a time in the lives of those I’ve hurt where they are required to forgive me.

Those who sought out the towns secrets very rarely came back with any information. So why exactly did the townsfolks children see fit to dig up its history?
