Detective Comics #30 - “The Return of Doctor Death” (1939)
written by Gardner Fox
art by Bob Kane & Sheldon Moldoff
All the parts start coming together, as Baxter Stockman sends mousers to get Splinter, April meets Casey Jones, we meet Krang and Splinter meets his nemesis again, for the first time.
At least this time they got creative with the mousers.
I feel like the only problem with the new series is the decision of starting “new arcs” only to change the title of the story for a different trade. But the story is still the same. This story is two trades long, plus three specials. I appreciate honesty when it comes to naming stories. Don’t tell me the story is over in four issues when it’s not. I understand the approach was to tell a longer serialized story, but then you have two options, name the chapters individually, or keep the numbering of the chapters. As a result, you need to buy two trades to get the full story (so I recommend the ultimate editions).
The re-imagining of the Turtles continues and there is even more in the mix in these issues, from all previous iterations. The Fred-Wolf cartoon seems to be one of the biggest influences, but when it comes to Shredder and the foot, I can see some 4Kids influences as well. At the time these issues were written, there was no 2012 show (but I can imagine Eastman was somewhat involved into the conception of that show). Then again, that show took a lot from Fred-Wolf and Playmates.
I am really liking the micro-series. The Donatello issue was beautifully drawn, and I am getting used to Dan Duncan’s style by now (just as he is leaving the book).
Many things make more sense in this version, but I am not entirely convinced about the rivalry between Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki. I don’t know, it feels a little weak, and since the idea was to re-imagine it… well, I was expecting something a bit easier to believe.
In the Mirage (and almost all iterations), the two brothers that bicker the most are Leo and Raph. Well, that changed here as Leo and Donnie clash over blind faith and rationality. An interest spin, as these two characters usually don’t have reasons to fight. It is justified here, of course.
Spoilers after the break…

So, I never really post anything about my OCs here.
I’ve only ever posted them on youtube, and there’s a reason for this.
You see, I’ve always been really nervous to put these guys out in the world, because the characters here actually belong to a comic series that I have been writing for a very VERY long time. It is only on paper so far, and it may or may not be adapted digitally, and posted. A lot of people over the course of its creation have told me I should start a webtoon, but I’m very scared that it’s not good enough, or that it will be stolen.
Maybe someday, but for now, just baby steps.
Since this is my art blog, I may start putting more of my art for these characters, believe me, theres a lot of it, because these characters are like my children and I work really hard to bring them to life.
If you dont enjoy them, that’s fine, I understand. Most people come here for my Villanos artwork, I understand that, I wont hold it against you, and I will be doing ALOT more Villanos in the future.
I’m really scared to put these out there, so please go easy on me at first.
I have extremely bad anxiety, and the thought of putting my comic out there is terrifying, and the idea of animating characters from it when no one knows them is the scariest of all…
Please go easy on me if you do not like it, or are sensitive to mature topics, as I tend to address alot of them through the characters.
If you are curious to know about them or my series, please leave an Ask, Comment, or a like here or on my channel, and subscribe for more random content.
I hope you all are staying safe, and I hope you all have a great day.
Thank you for your time, and thank you for listening.

How many comics do you want me to post tonight? About seven are ready.
(feat. a strange dream I had where Saeba just said to Kaori casually : “Omg is that a guy f*ckin’ a dolphin over there ??!”
“ Dance of the Hornet”
Another comic story! This time about ferocious hornets~! There were times in Allifera Kingdom where hornets were ruling those lands. Being very strict and mercyless they forced other people to work for them. A lot of folks tried to break free…
This time it’s a tragic love story~!
