chapter four (4)
Adam and Rosemary walked back to the trailer. Upon stepping inside, Daisy immediately rushed over.
“I am so sorry! Sincerely, I completely forgot, really I-,”
Rosemary held up her hand. “It’s fine, really. I get it.” Rose paused. “I should be apologizing, I mean, it’s a stupid thing really-,” Rose looked past Daisy’s frown to see Adam behind her raising his eyebrows and giving her a look. She immediately paused.
“Right…” Daisy trailed off after noticing Rose’s awkward silence. “Again, really sorry!” Someone called her name so she turned around to see one of the designer’s looking for her.
“I thought we just talked about this. You shouldn’t apologize for that. Ever.” Adam spoke in a low voice, looking down at her. “Rose,” she stared at his chest. “Look at me. Please.”
She slowly looked up. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
He sighed. “Don’t apologize.” He straightened up. “One of these days I’m going to get you to walk out the door without even apologizing.”
Rose giggled. “I’ll count on it.”
Adam sat back down in the makeup chair as his designer came over and started to touch up his hair and face.
“Rose?” She looked over at him. “Sit down.” He motioned to the chair besides him. “Are you excited?” He asked, not looking at her as his makeup stylist was attempting to do his face.
“For what?” She asked.
“To see me as Kylo Ren.” He smirked. “I’m obviously the best character here.” His makeup artist snorted. “Right, Kelly?” Kelly only gave Rose an exasperated look.
“Hey, hey! You can’t turn my own people against me!” Adam threw his hands up. “I give up, I’ll never win.”
Rose giggled again and placed her hand on his forearm. “I think you’re the best one here,” she whispered.
She looked down at her own hand that was resting on his forearm. He looked down too, staring at her touch as if it was a wild animal.
“Sorry,” she whispered and pulled her hand back.
“Rose,” he said in a warning tone.
“I know, I know,” she threw her hands up in mock-surrender. “Hey, where are the other two?” She looked for Daisy and John.
“Daisy already did makeup and John’s off to wardrobe,” Adam answered. “You don’t really need to worry about them, John doesn’t need any assistant and Daisy’s been working with Mara.”
Rose nodded. She stood up. “I should probably go and check in with Rian, you know, just in case.”
Adam looked at her. “You can stay, you know.” Kelly pretended not to be interested in their conversation. “Really, I like the company actually.”
Rose nodded. “I don’t mean to bother-,”
“Nonsense,” Adam interrupted. “Really, I want you here. With me.”
Kelly had finished his face and was busy on the other side of the trailer cleaning her stuff.
“Well,” Rose sighed and looked at her phone quickly. No texts, no calls about anything on fire, nothing about the SWAT invading, it seemed that Rian was doing…Great, actually. “All right. But you have to tell me when to be out of your hair or I’ll never be able to leave.”
Adam chuckled. “I could keep you by my side forever. Never let you go.”
And even though it was harmless teasing, Rosemary couldn’t help but feel that maybe it was something more.
