Last week I was erroneously delivered a package by UPS from Staples. It’s got my street address, but not my name. I have done everything I can think of to get it to the right person, but it keeps coming back. At what point am I allowed to just keep it?
First I just surreptitiously moved it over to my neighbors door in case its theirs (I have a new neighbor recently and I’m not sure of her name, so it might be the name on the package and they just got the number off by one). Nope, they moved it back.
So then I tried to return it to Staples. I wrote ‘Return to sender’ on it and handed it to a UPS driver for return (The proper procedure) but then it wound up back at my door again. It’s the same box, with a new address label (The same address) placed over my handwritten note.
So then I called the rental office at my apartment complex to see if they have a tenant by this name somewhere else in the complex. Maybe they mixed up the number, or put the wrong building letter. That was yesterday, and I still haven’t heard back.
So today I opened the package to see if there was some clue, and GLORY BE there’s a tracking slip with a phone number. But when I called the number the woman who answered said she is not the person the package is addressed to, and she does not know this person either.
