This meeting today with Mario was very helpful as it allowed me to ask for some really valuable suggestions
Secondly, I showed Mario my run/walk cycle for Mattrey (Click HERE). Mario like me felt it needed to be improved, and he told me a few things I could do to improve it.
I made a really quick walk/run cycle for Mattrey, just so I could get a real feel for all the components.
As first attempts go it isn’t perfect, no where near in fact. However, it gave me a great feel of how I could move the assets in the body. And it also showed me what needs to be improved within the design, for example the legs need a join I think.
starting off by using a template I was given with 9 squares. Choosing a word related to my theme I chose education. Creating outlines and ungrouping the text so I could copy and paste each letter individually and place it in one of the squares. Positioning each letter how I thought looked best I then arranged it to send to back and then made a clip mask.
Dragging out each square to the next page so that I could arrange it joining some letters together and placing it in a random order making it illegible. Finishing off by adding some detail to the typography. Using spray paint drip, destressed vector halftone patterns and colour.

DOGE’s Rally Has Revived Dogecoin Development, But For How Long?
Amid all-time highs for bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH) and various other tokens, dogecoin (DOGE) has remained something of a black sheep of the crypto family. It rallied almost 2,000% in the past 12 months, yet it’s still widely regarded as a ‘joke’ currency, despite — or partly because of — the vocal support of people like Elon Musk.
But even if it still carries a reputation…
Working on the group’s presentation. I am going to make mock ups for the website and the Instagram page, following the feedback given by Tamsyn. Jerin sent me her files she worked on so that I could make the new mock ups. I’m not sure whether these mock ups work or not, I believe they were more efficient and pleasant to look at the way they were before. I also changed some captions to make them shorter and polished, like adviced by Tamsyn. Later I’m going to make a mock up for the Instagram page, and Barry will make one for the brochure. Once I have the brochure mock up I will be able to complete the presentation.
Miles of new student flats being built in Sheffield.
They are springing up all over Sheffield. I can’t believe how many have sprung up across from Griffin House where I worked along Tenter St and Broads St up to the University. I would say there is a 1-mile x 2-mile area covered in new high rise flats.
They are even talking about knocking down Debenhams on the Moor and building 1400 student flats there.
In the 1960s they built two many high…
After completing the layer masking demo I wanted to try and use the technique more and experiment with what I could create with it. This first outcome I created I kept very minimal. First I changed the hue of one of my photos that I had opened into photoshop and moved the hue slider till I was happy with the colour. I was left these green and pink tones which inspired the rest of the outcome. I next added the word isolation and added a gradient to it. I wanted this gradient to be a flipped version of the natural gradient in the sky so that I could place the text over it and it would stand out. Once I had positioned the type where I wanted it I added a layer mask and used the brush tool, switching between black and white to remove parts and add parts back in. I removed all the parts of the type that were laying over the buildings to give the impression of the text being in the sky. Next using the ellipse tool I added a circle with the same gradient as the type with a lower opacity. To add more with an identical gradient I first had to rasterize the ellipse layer before copying and pasting the other circles. I like how these circles almost look like bubbles and how they tie the type to the rest of the outcome. To improve this outcome I could of distorted and tilted the type to make it appear more above before creating the layer mask.
For this second outcome I experimented with combining using the masking technique with a variety of other processes. First I opened one of my photos in photoshop and adjusted the brightness and contrast. I wanted to make this outcome almost a visual representation of how society in the uk perceives the governments handling and communication of the virus, so I decided to use an image of the virus itself to start with. I removed the background using the quick selection tool so that it could be placed around the photo. I wanted to place it in a way that it appeared to be overflowing out of the bin. To do this I used the polygonal lasso tool to make a copy of the bin lid and then repositioned this new bin lid above the old one. Once I had placed the virus around this I merged all the virus copies into one layer and added a layer mask. Using the brush tool I could then remove the sections that were laying over the top of the bin lid. Using the brush tool again I coloured black over the original bin lid to create the impression of a shadow. I added a drop shadow to all of them to make them look more realistic within the photo. Next I wanted to add something to the walls, I considered adding street art style type but decided to save this idea for now. Instead I decided to add a neon sign. This is something that normally appears welcome so I wanted to give it a lockdown twist. Instead of the usual words you’d see in this sign I decided to make it say “go home”. To create this I followed a video which also supplied downloadable files for the wires layer and the white tube the goes around the outside. I downloaded these and opened them in photoshop. I placed the tube above the wires and resized these. To create the neon effect, starting with the tube, I opened the layer style options and clicked Bevel & Emboss and adjusted the settings as you can see in the screenshot. Then one by one, I added five drop shadows, the settings for each are shown in the screenshots. This created that glowing effect as well as creating a shadow behind the light. Next I added the type inside and repeated the same steps with a different colour. Then to add one more thing to the glowing effect, I added a colour balance which I then could adjust until I was happy with it. I then copied these layers and pasted them into my main document. Obviously the angle of the sign would look unrealistic against the slant of the walls. To fix this I clicked Edit -> Transform -> Perspective which then allows me to transform the perspective and line the sign up with the wall. The photo then appeared to light for the neon sign to be visibly glowing, so I adjusted the brightness and contrast to make it appear darker, also adjusting the brightness and contrast of the virus layers. I then decided to add a poster to the other side of the wall. I opened a new A4 document in photoshop and used the rectangle tool to create the red and yellow lines in the background, inspired by government posters. I then added the type to it and the official covid-19 graph for the uk. I changed the graph to red by adding a colour overlay. I then wanted to add texture to this so that it appeared more realistic when placed on the wall. I found a texture online and placed it over all the other layers. I inverted it so that it turned black and changed the blend mode. I added this poster into the outcome and used the same technique to adjust the perspective. Finally I added a filter to try and blend all the aspects into the photo more. I added a plain black layer at the top and I clicked Filter -> Noise -> Add Noise… where I could then adjust the frequency. I then changed the blend mode of this layer to colour dodge and lowered the opacity to 50%. Creating this outcome helped me experiment in a lot of different ways and also practise techniques that I could use for future outcomes in this project.
