Dionne Warwick, The Windows of The World, 1967
I’ve noticed recently that if I’m singing absently to myself, it’s often either Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, or Dionne Warwick. Like, if I’m doing the dishes or whatever and my brain is on auto-shuffle, chances are good it’ll be one of those three. It’s a bit odd when usually I go for one or two songs rather than artists themselves, but I guess my brain has decided these three are comfort music.
Dolly Parton is probably my parents’ fault. Dionne Warwick is definitely my mother’s. Not sure I can blame anything except Mad Max for Tina Turner. Heh. Auntie Entity made an impression on kid!me, for sure.
Song #13: I Say a Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin
Today we remember Issac Lee Hayes Jr.(August 20,1942-August 10,2008 )he was a singer, songwriter, producer and an actor he is best known for his deep voice that worked perfectly for speaking and singing He was one of the creative forces behind Southern soul and Stax Records he was busy in the 70’s scoring soundtracks to films such as Shaft and other Blaxploitation films. He was a skilled producer and composer. Hayes produced and made soul and funk music with big lush sounds. He won number of awards for skilled craftsmanship in music. My dad really enjoyed the lengthy Hayes song,” By The Time I Get To Phoenix” and really enjoy it myself. Hayes appeared in several films, including the funny film, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. And was the voice of the character Chef on the Comedy Central animated series South Park was an artist that wore many hats as an entertainer and was skilled in each area he is most certainly an inspiration and influence to various artists today.
