My home town church didn’t have a board meeting in March. So they didn’t act on my request to resign my membership until April. I had mostly forgotten about it, until I received an email from the pastor tell me that it was on the agenda for the next day. He also told me that my parents attended board meetings and asked if I had told them yet.
So I had to call and tell my dad - and have him tell my mom. I had really been hoping to avoid having to do that, knowing they will take it personally. Like this is because of a shortcoming on their end, like if they had raised me differently I wouldn’t be walking away from the institution they have been part of most of their lives.
At least I am officially not a member anymore. That is worth it, even if it means having uncomfortable talks with my parents.
