I’ve enjoyed the videos I’ve seen so far – about a dozen. I especially liked your coverage of the Enlightenment and the foundations of modern constitutional democracy. I do have a couple of points I’d like to make, however.
A minor one is brevity. Considering kids and adults spend an average of four hours a day on cell phones, tv,…

A jury says Intel owes $2.18 billion for infringing a zombie chip company’s patents
Intel may owe quite a bit of cash to a semiconductor company that hasn’t existed for 20 years. A Texas jury has asked Intel to pay $2.18 billion for infringing two patents owned by VLSI Technology, according to Bloomberg. VLSI seemingly rose from the dead in 2019 specifically to sue. The last time it was an independent company was in 1999, when Philips purchased the semiconductor design firm for…

First, I went over the assignment on Hinduism that my students worked on yesterday (and took home to finish if they didn’t finish in class). Then I gave an assignment about how the religion impacts other aspects of culture (ie- marriage and funeral traditions, styles of dress, dietary rules). That was definitely the highlight; so many students wanted to share what they’d learned, which was great. They also spoke about the things they’d seen in the past and not understood (like women wearing bindis), or things they’d been mistaken about (thinking Hindus worship cows). I like that they’re recognizing their learning, that’s awesome. And, lastly, I gave quick lecture on the origins of Buddhism and assigned a reading with more detail about Buddhist history and beliefs. Next class will be about how Buddhism influences other aspects of culture.
See the pattern?
At first, I had to coax students to participate in my Block 1 class, but, luckily, they warmed up and we were able to have cool discussions. I had something of an opposite challenge in my Block 2 class: having to keep them silent while they were working because they can be so disruptive otherwise. I got some pushback, but they realized I wasn’t going to budge and settled relatively quickly. And then we had cool discussions, too.
So, overall? I think this lesson went pretty well!
After class, I went down to talk to Mr. W because one of the things I’m going to do tomorrow to teach how Buddhism influence other aspects of culture is a little martial arts demo, which he’s going to join me for. Then I went to the book store with Mrs. T to help her carry boxes of books she’d ordered for the English department. And then I got hot chocolate:
