We left soon after the proposal. I said goodbye to my mother and father, and wished them good luck in managing the family’s financial situation. And then we were off.
All the property owned by the Landgraab’s is at risk of being lost, so we’re going to a house that belongs to the Scotts - a small seaside cabin in Brindleton Bay.
Cabin is a strong word. I think shack would be more fitting.
I have left the mines?? How I do not know. And I have found... cacti??? Wild dogs??? I feel like I’ve missed something important... 😂
Mets: Rojas Goes With a Bullpen Game To Gain A Split In Today’s Twin Bill
Mets manager Luis Rojas had no choice but to go with his pitchers on hand in Game 2 of today’s twin bill versus the Braves. And guess what… The Mets knew today was coming when the Atlanta Braves would arrive at Citi Field for a doubleheader. Marcus Stroman took his regular turn to start game one. Stroman turned in five innings of two-run ball a bit shaky, good enough to earn a win, except the…

“And you’re obviously dumber than a doornail.” His little brother groans dramatically, and falls backwards. His body moves with the bouncing of the mattress, hands running down his face. He groans into his palms. “Okay, okay. We were busy getting our bodies back, fine. But you’ve honestly never noticed how she looks at you? How she talks to you? What about how big she smiles when she hears your voice? You honestly think that all means nothing?”
No, actually. He hadn’t noticed those things. He was oblivious, maybe, but definitely not dumb. And besides, Al was right—Ed had been focused on something else entirely. He didn’t have time to fret over Winry’s body language.
“Hopeless,” Alphonse grumbles, words muffled by his hands. “My big brother is hopeless with women!”

With Trina’s blessing, I returned to Dina to ask her to be my wife. My heart was in my throat - but there was no reason to be nervous, she said yes! It was a perfect moment.

Characters: Edward Elric, Winry Rockbell
Edward sighed as he sank down into the dining room chair, his muscles aching and his skin shining with sweat. He tossed his sopping wet bangs from in front of his golden eyes; the crimped strands joined the rest of them with a thick slap, making him grimace at the gross sound. He rolled his shoulders, smiling a little at the satisfaction of the tension unwinding just a bit. He then rubbed his neck, trying to massage the ache from them further, as Winry strode into the kitchen.
“Oh, Ed! You’ve finished building the flower boxes?” she chirped, and Edward nodded in response. He’d spent the better part of the afternoon constructing long flower boxes on the front and along the side of the house and then filling them with rich, loamy soil. Tomorrow they would pay a visit to the market in town to buy seeds and bulbs to plant. As she set a glass of water down in front of him, smiling sweetly, Edward spied the gleaming diamond engagement band sparkling on her finger and a light, floaty feeling filled him from his head to his toes.
Following his travels, Edward had returned to Resembool, and he and Winry had officially begun dating. After a year or so, they’d decided that Granny’s automail shop was a bit too cramped for their taste and future plans; so, after much deliberation and a few tears on Edward’s part, they’d bulldozed the wreckage of his old family home and built a new home atop it to christen their official engagement. They’d moved in once it was complete, and amidst wedding plans and general domesticity, Edward and Winry were sprucing up what they hoped to be their forever home. Though Winry was mechanically inclined, Gracia Hughes had talked his wife-to-be into a beautifully landscaped yard complete with flowerbeds— but of course, Edward was doing all the grunt work.
“Yep,” he answered before taking the glass of water and guzzling it. He slammed it down on the table and wiped the small stream dribbling from his lips with the back of his hand. He smiled at Winry as she refilled the glass with a pitcher, and after guzzling the second glass— setting it down much more gently this time— he reclined back in the chair with a deep exhale. “I filled them soil, too.”
“Really? Thanks, honey!” she said, heading for the kitchen counter. Edward’s gaze followed, smiling at the sashay in her hips that made the strings of her apron flop against her back. She busied herself with cutting a peeled pumpkin into chunks, which is when Edward noticed the other ingredients arranged neatly across the counter. He rose from his seat to saunter up behind her; she only hummed contentedly as he looped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder.
“What’re you cookin’, hon?”
“Pumpkin soup,” she answered. Probably one of Miss Gracia’s recipes. “Miss Gracia gave me the recipe!” Knew it, he thought with a smirk.
He tucked his chin further into his shoulder, just watching her drop the chunks of pumpkin into a pot of water on the stove. She followed by quickly cutting up an onion and two cloves of garlic, tossing them in after. “Honey, could you get me the chicken stock? I forgot it,” she asked. Edward kept one arm around her waist as he reached over her head with the other, pulling open the cabinet to retrieve the box of chicken stock. When he set it in her hands, he pressed a loving kiss into her cheek, making her giggle.
“Thanks.” While she poured the broth into the pot, she added cheekily, “You’re awful clingy today.”
“Mmm,” he mumbled while peppering kisses along her neck. “I spent all day outside working and didn’t get to see you. Maybe it’s made me a little needy.” This only made her hum, and after placing a lid on the stove, she turned in his arms to wrap her arms around his neck.
“Needy, huh?” she said, tilting her head to the side with a smirk. “I never thought I would hear the great Edward Elric admit to being needy.”
“Well, maybe the great Edward Elric is in a mood to pamper his wife-to-be today,” he shot back, and she giggled again as he bumped his nose against hers. “Enjoy it, it doesn’t happen too often,” he teased with another little kiss to the end of her nose.
She entertained him while the pumpkin boiled, leaning back against the edge of the stove while they traded kisses and sweet nothings. Edward still hadn’t gotten his fill in fifteen minutes, but Edward pressed her hand over his mouth while she turned back around, leaving him to disgruntledly nibble at her palm. She pulled the lid off the pot and steam billowed up, white and wispy and smelling of tender pumpkin. She poked one of the pumpkin chunks to ensure they were nice and cooked before grabbing a stick blender from the counter.
The little metal tool whirled in the pot, pureeing the pumpkin and other ingredients into a thick, orange, sweet-smelling paste. After grinding the ingredients down to a smooth consistency, Winry poured in a measuring cup full of cream, then stirred it until the swirling lines of white had melted into the orange paste. She tapped her lips for a moment, mumbling something to herself, and then tugged the spice rack over.
“Oh? Defiling Miss Gracia’s recipe? How dare you,” he grinned, lightly biting down on her shoulder with a wiggle of his eyebrows. She wiggled at the strange sensation, laughing, and plucked three spices from the rack.
“I just thought I would spice it up a little,” she said, stirring in some cumin, coriander, and smoked paprika. “I know you like a little kick to your food.”
“Oh? So it’s for me?”
“Isn’t everything?” she countered, looking back at him with a sweet smile, and he blushed as the tables were so easily turned on him. Grumbled shyly, he escaped her question by nuzzling into her neck. Winry’s shoulders jumped as she chuckled, then began to move rhythmically in circles while she stirred the spices in. “You spent all day outside and I didn’t see you… Maybe that’s made me a little needy,” she said, and though it sounded like a cheeky parrot of his words, when Edward peered through his bangs, he saw her smiling softly down at the pot of soup.
They ate outside on the porch as they often did in the summer, enjoying the warmth of the breeze and the golden rays of the setting sun splashing over the picturesque countryside. They’d adopted one of Den’s puppies, and it flitted around the front yard sniffing the wildflowers and stalking a butterfly, moping when it’s clumsy attempt to catch it fell utterly short. Edward reclined against the porch steps, eyes lidded as he enjoyed the content atmosphere and the savory flavor of Winry’s pumpkin soup on his tongue.
“Is it good?” she asked, stretching out on her belly on the sun-warmed wood. She stirred her soup around in her bowl, waiting eagerly for his answer. He could joke, but… He wasn’t in the mood right now.
“Yeah,” he smiled, looking over his shoulder at her. “Very good.” He noticed she had a bit of pumpkin soup smeared on her cheek, and with a little chuckle, he thumbed it away. As she gasped, he stuck the end of his thumb in his mouth and wiggled his eyebrows. “Apparently so good you forgot where your mouth is,” he added with a roguish smirk, unable to resist just a little bit of teasing. Winry poked her lips out in a dour pout, but there was plenty of laughter in her warm blue eyes.
“I know where yours is,” she said, surprising him by jumping forward to claim it in a sudden kiss. Edward yelped, knocking their front teeth together, and Winry just laughed into the messy half-clash of their lips. After playfully nipping her bottom lip, he rested her hand on her cheek, guiding her into a real kiss. She smiled into it and gave a satisfied hum, eyes fluttered as the sun bathed them both in golden light.
Once this had been a happy home, and when it wasn’t any longer, Edward had burned it to the ground to bury those memories. It had taken him a long time to have the courage to come back, to dig up those bittersweet memories, to make a home out of a shell. Now he had that home to fill with more happy memories, with good times, with love. And for all of that he had Winry to thank for.
“I love you,” he murmured, opening his eyes to gaze adoringly into her own. “More than anything I’ve ever loved before.”
“And I love you,” she smiled, snuggling up against him, “Forever and always.”
And as the sun set on their happy home, Edward gave thanks to the universe for leading him to this— a loving wife, a warm meal in his belly, a safe harbor against the darkness. It was more than he ever could have asked for, more than he probably deserved, but still the universe had been kind enough to grant it. And he sure as hell wasn’t going to let it go to waste.
