New Upload: Four Eyes - Wherever You Are, Hope you enjoy!
‘Outside Outside’ (EP) - Rylander
I created this EP with the intention of capturing that first inspiring, euphoric feeling you get when you were a kid. For me, this was when I became obsessed with space, which is the main theme of this project. I recommend this EP to any child who is properly listening music for the first time in hopes of sparking their imagination.
BILLY CURRIE - “ENGLISH HOME”
Best known as the synthesist of Ultravox who also played some delightful violin solos on “Vienna” and elsewhere, Billy Currie has continued to pursue music since then, though never to either the mainstream success of Midge Ure or quite the same cult darling status of John Foxx. Most of his solo work tends towards what you’d call ambient or atmospheric electronica, and his debut as a solo artist, Transportation, is a reasonable introduction to it. It flirts a bit with songs about the means of transportation itself, like “Perfect Flight,” as well as exploring the themes of the places themselves to which one might travel, like “India.”
And it closes out on this tune, “English Home,” which seems to imply that our excursions have come to their conclusion and we are returning to the comfort and security of home, which at least for Currie is England. Transportation really shows off Currie’s classical chops, and this track is no exception, starting with a thrilling and strained viola and building up into something more peaceful; we return home to find a world that’s so familiar, and yet fresh to eyes renewed by new experiences. As it ends, percussion comes to the fore, perhaps a representation of the return to the hum-”drum” beats of our everyday lives after a relaxing vacation. It’s easy to write about the more overtly exciting elements of travelling, but I think Currie did a particularly phenomenal job of capturing the aftermath of adventure, and the unique perspective we obtain by returning and re-examining what we’ve arguably been taking for granted.
The Sabres of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix)
Probably my favourite DJ. He was the real deal. RIP
Isaac Ahrens wrote: Following one of my favorite albums from last year, a really solid glitch hop EP with some more pep in its step. Each track has its own mood and melody that makes it stand out, while all together creating a wiggly dance floor vibe. Lots of fun :) Favorite track: Big Pimplin’.
